Arduino SFX Shield/Extension Board Group buy list (USA)

As you might have read I created a shield which makes the electrical part of installing the SFX100 super easy and idiot proof.

We will be organizing a group buy and make this board available to everyone who's interested.

The price of the board will be somewhere around 20 dollars
( plus shipping / handling and taxes if needed)

I will be handling orders for the USA region.

My current task is to collect prospects. In the second step, when the final price is fixed, you may send the amount including shipping costs to a PayPal address (PayPal for friends).

For those who have paid up to a certain date (I will post that later) the order will be started in China and the shipping to USA recipients will be arranged through me.

If you are interested and want to be put on the list, leave your nickname and desired quantity below in the topic. Thank you!

Update 1:
The final layout of the board has changed a bit. The RJ45 jack will be replaced by 2 screw terminals. This eliminates the need for an additional RJ45 breakout connector, and reduces the cost of the board.

Note that the enclosure has changed to accommodate this adjustment, so hold off on printing those until I make the updated enclosure files available.

Update 2:
Order process:
1. On April 5 I will send all people who are on the list a PM with my PayPal address.
2. Cost for US orders is $24 shipped for one board. Additional boards are +$9.00.
3. Please only use PayPal's "Send to Friends and Family " to avoid PayPal fee.
4. In the PayPal comment leave your full name and shipping address.
5. The payment window will close on April 12.
6. All orders payed by April 12 will be included in the group buy.
7. We will order the boards at the factory on April 12.
8. Estimated delivery before the end of May.

@Requis, based on feedback I simplified the design a little because the RJ45 connectors were adding unnecessary complexity and expense to the project. I'll have a video showing the updated design in a day or 2. I'm just waiting for the prototype parts to arrive. We're using a screw terminal on the board now, so any type of 2-conductor wire will work to connect an e-stop.

PROJECT UPDATE:

The current plan is to tally all the orders on Wednesday, April 3. We can then obtain final pricing from the factory.

On Thursday, April 4 we will share the final price including shipping/handling and the payment window will open. The payment window will close on April 9. All orders paid by April 9th will be part of this group buy.

I will also post an updated video on Thursday evening showing the final board design (which has been optimized a bit for production).

Original pricing estimate still looking about the same?

Yes, we're still estimating $20 + shipping/handling. In the USA that should work out to about $35 (total cost) to your door. The DB25 breakouts on the shopping list are $30 for 4, so I think this is a nice alternative.

Note: In countries other than USA, the regional volunteers may run their group buy a little bit differently. So final cost and payment timing will likely be different.

Sign-ups for this group buy are now closed. Any additional sign-ups after this message will be put on a standby list in the event that someone drops out. The final order quantity has been communicated to the factory in China and can not be changed at this point. I will follow up later today with additional payment details.

I updated the SFX-100 shield GitHub page with the latest "Group Buy" edition files.

Of particular note are the updated enclosures. If you want to print your enclosure now, the STL files are available there.

There are versions of the lid with and without a logo, and versions of the box with and without mounting feet.

Enjoy!

Just wanted to drop a reminder that we will be ordering the boards on April 12th. If your payment is not received by that date, I can't guarantee that you will be included in the group buy.

I sent PM's today to the folks who have not yet paid. If you received one of these and have already made payment, please PM me the email address you used to make payment, or the PayPal transaction ID and I'll make sure you get marked as paid.

Thank you!

Group buy update: The first boards for quality control are being sent to me today. I should have them this week. Once they are approved the rest of the boards can go into production - I expect that will happen the week of May 6th. We are still on track for a May delivery.

Here are photos from the factory of the first boards off the line. These boards were hand soldered. The final production boards will be run on a jig for wave soldering, which will make for cleaner and more consistent solder joints.

Now that the group buy for the SFX-100 Shield is in production in China, I had time to make a video showing how to go the DIY route and have a raw PCB printed, order the parts, and solder the board up by hand.

Group buy participants will receive fully assembled boards. But if you missed the group buy or just want to go the DIY route, here is everything you need to make your own. Enjoy!
