The much anticipated 'Heavy Cargo' DLC package for American Truck Simulator has been released, adding nine new load types to the American themed truck driving simulation.

The new DLC was released in the last few days and brings American Truck Sim once again back in line with its European counterpart ETS2, which received the DLC as recently as May. Adding nine new load types, the Heavy Cargo DLC will bring with it loads ranging from between 55, 000 lbs to 123, 000 lbs (25 - 56 metric tons), altering the characteristics of the trucks as drivers look to manoeuvre this oversized loads between the various drop off and collection points found within the American road network map.

The trailer loads that come as part of the 'Heavy Cargo' DLC are:
  • Crawler Tractor
  • Bulldozer
  • Lift Truck Chassis
  • Lift Truck
  • Cable Reel
  • Milling Machine
  • All Terrain Crane
  • Scraper
  • Transformer

Due to the unique differences between road and haulage regulations in the US in comparison to the majority of Europe, the new DLC pack does have a very different look to the trailer and load combinations recently released for European Truck Simulator 2 back in May. As explained by SCS Software themselves "The first part which is the closest to the tractor is called the jeep and it is connected to the truck via the normal fifth wheel. The second part is called the lowboy and that's where the cargo is placed. It's either in the middle or it's the last part, depending on the configuration. The third part is semi-optional in relation to the cargo that is transported. It's called the spreader (or the stinger or the axle booster as it is called sometimes) and as the name suggests, it is there to spread the weight of the cargo across more axles and greater length. All three have their own pivot point which makes backing really entertaining and actually generally not advisable".

Additional to the visually very different trailer loads within the 'Heavy Cargo' DLC, the new update to the game also brings with it new engine variants and behaviours, with all trucks now having the option to upgrade to a 600hp diesel motor in addition to the current range of smaller and more economical variations.

The 'Heavy Loads' DLC is available to purchase now and retails for £3.95.

American Truck Simulator and European Truck Simulator 2 are available to purchase for PC right now. Additional DLC packs for both games can be picked up from the respect Steam store page.
