AMD Ryzen For Simracing?

I understand validity of testing at all resolution, mem and o/c speed across all software.

For me boils down to sims as long as they can run smooth at given fps.

I tried all sims @4K DSR with 5600x - RTX2080 using 60fps max they are all smooth and I have stuff like nordsvpn and malwarebytespro still running and more then likely downloading in background and web open in little window watching some race. lol

" you must have 0% process to begin ! " Hogswash ;)

So now moving to 3440x1440 all I need is 10GB vram so 3080 with 5600X will handle with ease.

No one will ever convince me a 3080Ti is worth the extra.
Here Gigabyte vision 3080 10GB - 1199 3080Ti same model - 1699

Got to admit I would love 7700X new chipset and 6xxx memory but just wasted for me

I do like how they have iGPU and the motherboards both DP and Hdmi out

The other big factor if you going to do you need to do proper which means selling my tower complete less storage and buy all new. I worked it out 7700X, Msi carbon 650, 32GB 6400 teamforce is $1,500 basically same cost as 5600X, Auros Master + 3600 C14 32GB
Thing is how much I going to get for used 5600X/RTX2080/DDR4 ....not a lot.

Also now Gigabyte 3080 OC is identical price I paid for Gigabyte 2080 OC ( $1,169AU)
Sell 2080 for $550 if lucky not too bad, why I will just keep 5600X if it can run a 3090@ 4K as test I linked, sure not same titles but fps going to be similar diff.

So I better waiting to see 4xxx performance I be crazy to get 3080 now but made up my mind keep 5600X till Christmas 2023

I too, plan to stick with AM4.
I have a Ryzen 5-5600X on an MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
It does everything I need for now.
I am planning a GPU update when pricing stabilizes....maybe sometime around March-April.
Decided to under-volt my 5600X last night.
That thing is 'rock' stable and runs ACC and every other title insanely smooth.

You and me maybe waiting for this review .... ;)

I don't understand why they could not have optioned better iGPU, even my 3400G crushes it, that means the B650 would not be good enough for Hi res GTR2 in 4K which 3400G ( even the 3200G) easy handles.
I know you are never going to use the onboard, still.

edit: I mean it kind of defeats the purpose of having DP and HDMi onboard

Nice, they're finally hitting the market!

What does the iGPU have to do with the Chipset though? The 7700X isn't an APU like the the G series CPUs but it's still way better than what Intel offered until the 12th gen CPUs.

Not meant for gaming, but good enough for some video streaming, office stuff etc. if you need a backup!

Funny later that day bit the bullet, at that stage Card was 1,169 and UltraGear monitor 1,199

Went surfing and google showed same prices except one store had same card for 1,059 and on LG Store monitor was $979 saving me $330 ! ordered straight away went back to sites this morning and both specials are gone.
Even on Gumtree good used 3080 are 900/1,000.

Am I worried I never waited for 4xxx not really considering only 3440x1440 and 5600X.

Sheesh just got word the card is coming today only ordered Sunday
No no no have to clean whole room, air compressor 2 towers and polish everything else take a day !!! Then of course fresh OS for 3080 .............Oh the sacrifices we make

Yeah so I put off all this till weekend, lazy lol

Till then I can get my fix by sniffing the 3080 ( nothing like that fresh PCB smell )

P.S. Ah just saw Spiderman redeem nice freebie ( $95AU on Steam ) even though I will play it for 15 minutes then again might get brainwashed and give up sims. p

Guess that is the last 3xxx hurrah I don't think card I have will drop below $1,000AU before they vanish ( like the 2xxx ) ... so $1059AU + Spiderman can't complain, already had messages on Gumtree for the RTX2080 ( $500AU )
Oh took out 2080 and quick clean decided to clean sim tower and install 3080 after all and already fresh OS 100% done
already downloading DTM Race 2, encoding, installing FM7, watching DTM Race 1 , rF2 in background running AI race lol 3080 hasn't made a peep ... touch wood :)

I just meaning I been saying for years they should be onboard since 2700X ( like Intel) etc. and when they do it is a bit of a fizzer ( imho )

7700X\B650 vs 3400G\B450 should be more of a contest when it comes to decade + old sim. No biggie. ;)

These chips are already running pretty hot. Adding a larger integrated GPU would mean cutting back on the CPU to keep power and temps in check which would result in lower overall performance. With competition from Intel heating up, AMD would be shooting themselves in the foot.

The only gaming APUs I've heard of are for the laptop market under the code name Phoenix. Maybe we'll get something similar for the desktop market eventually, but I think the market will be pretty small.

Hi everyone,

Recently saw a video by dan Suzuki where he benchmarked that the 5950x is equal to the 5800x3d in ACC 1440p triples.

Did anyone else here have the same experience upgrading from a 5600x/5700x/5800x/5900x/5950x to a 5800x3d and they showed the same fps in 1440p x 3 in ACC?

I plan to run 32 x 1440p x 3 and currently on a 5600x.

Very confused whether to upgrade from a 5600x to a 5800x3d or not?

Thanks.

He's not alone. If you search 'AMD Ryzen 7 5800x vs 5800x3D in ACC VR', the 3D chip was slower with the Reverb G2 (higher res. than triple 1440p monitors). I'm guessing the extra cache with the X3D has little effect with Nvidia's drivers, so the extra frequency of the plain 5800X gives it the edge. However, more cars, rain etc., might push the pendulum the other way... just a theory.

I have exactly the same dilemma. I have 5600x and 3x 1440p and mostly play iR. I do not know if this makes sense ?

Regards
It might be worth checking out a couple of videos here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/Robertsmania *

He benchmarks both the 5600X & 5800X3D (separately) using a 4090 gpu & iRacing replay. Despite using a Pimax (VR) headset for testing purposes, some of the resolutions are above a triple 1440p setup. It should therefore be possible to draw some conclusions as to the likely performance difference between both cpus (spoiler: not a lot).

The 5600X is very smooth, if properly configured and cooled.
I love mine and cannot wait to get back up and running with my G2.
I have OpenXR toolkit and OpenComposite setup.
All that's needed is the proper GPU.
It should be interesting, since all previous running was done with SteamVR and I was satisfied then.

Will you share your settings?

I have an Asus X570 and good cooling

I'm going to drop mine in this weekend in place of a 3700X. Pairing with a Radeon 5700XT till i can afford something new, i'm not expecting miracles.
...

I'm in an almost similar situation (3600 and 5700XT); did you see much difference in performance? For reference, I'm playing on 24" triples in 1080p.

I can't decide whether to go for the 5800x3d now, or wait 8-weeks and go for a 6800XT.

I was all prepared to wait 12-months for this gen's CPU/GPU prices to settle and then do a full upgrade....but that x3d looks too good to pass up; for what I play* the 7800x3d would just be more of the same.

*RF2, RRE, ACC and AMS2.

Hello Jacob,

Being GPU bound i didn't see any real difference at the top end as expected, but the low end is a good improvement over the 3700x.

I mostly run Rf2 & AC at 1440. With the 3700x in AC, 90fps would see occasional stutters. It needed to be kept 95fps+ to keep things smooth. I can turn settings up till i'm at around 70fps and still run buttery smooth with the 3d.

I was a little disappointed with Rf2, i was hoping for big things but hey, it's Rf2. Runs smoother though.

ACC ran like dog poo on the 3700x. There is a very clear & noticeable improvement with the 3d. ACC also could also use a better GPU than the 5700xt as you probably know. I've only got 8 hours in ACC so don't have much to more to offer.

I have no opinion regarding RRE & AMS2.

I have really enjoyed this 5700xt, for what i paid it's been a great little card but it's clearly holding the 3d back. It definitely needs a better GPU to let it breath. Holding out for a 7800/7800xt.

All in all, very happy with the 3d though i think if i had gone with a 6800xt instead i would also be very happy. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Cheers Bob, sometimes making choices is hard and I was hoping for an answer to be dropped into my lap :)

(Rhetorical first-world huff follows)

Do I buy the 6800xt now, or wait longer for the 7800xt knowing that the 7800 will absolutely cover me for many years to come, or the 6800xt which will cover me for years to come.

Same with the x3d, the 5 or 7800 (when motherboard prices aren't so eye-watering).

Do I move to AM5 later next year, or commit to AM4 which is on its last round?

Bloody choices.

Well, my reasoning was to get another couple of years out of AM4 as I don't see anything exciting sim-wise on the horizon to get me hyped for a whole new platform. (Ok, maybe AC2...)

I find Ryzen 7000 a little lacklustre, not far enough in front of the 3d to warrant a whole new platform. If i were moving to AM5 i would only be interested in the 7800X3D or whatever they call it. And as you say, the cost of MB's are a bit of a joke. Also, DDR5 needs time to more time to mature for better pricing.

I don't have all of the money together for a gpu yet, saving has become a bit of a slow process lately, but i have been watching the falling price of the 6800xt. If you can get a good deal, it is a lot of card compared to the 5700xt. If i'd had the money a couple of months ago i would have grabbed one but i think if i had the money today i would sit on my hands and wait.

The 7800 non xt Vs 6800xt should (hopefully) be in the same ballpark price and performance wise, maybe with a performance bump but definitely better power consumption and heat output (important with rising energy costs and for those two weeks of non air conditioned British summers...).

What should you spend your money on? well, it's your money therefore any buyers remorse should be all your own though i don't think there is a bad choice. A new gpu will give the biggest hit of instant gratification whereas the cpu is more of a long term thing that will take any gpu you throw at it. Just depends on your situation.

Whatever you choose, have fun!
