Rast for the third time

26.07.2009 -
René Rast at the 8th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup clinched his third win in a row and with his pole-position shortens the gap to Jeroen Bleekemolen for further four points. The championship leader from Konrad Motorsport finished third, behind guest starter Jan Seyffarth, who receives no points. The Lechner-Pilots Stefan Rosina and Damien Faulkner finished on ranks four and five.
Clear case for René Rast
Like it was expected, the two Germans René Rast and Jan Seyffarth sprint from the starting grid, while championship leader Jeroen Bleekemolen starts rather calm. "We were not really the quickest at the start and in the two first laps", Bleekemolen comments on the initial phase of the Hungary race. The Netherlander of the team Konrad Motorsport immediately comes under pressure of Stefan Rosina, who was able to pass his team mate Damian Faulkner at the start. By more than three seconds Rast and Seyffarth could drag away from pursuer Bleekemolen during the four initial laps. The triple winner this season has some kind of trouble to keep Rosina, Faulkner and Huisman behind. "The Lechner boys have gone a really high risk to pass me.
Black weekend for the black cars
Only seconds later the disaster of the SPS team is complete, when Patrick Huisman comes into the Pitlane. “I received a drive-through-penalty because of a jump start”, he explained later. “It was correct, the car gas moved just before the lights were out because of a problem with my cultch. I stepped the pedal completely down, but I didn’t help. During the race shifting gears was also difficult”, explains Huisman, who finally finished eleventh.
Final spurt at the lead

Jeroen Bleekemolen, still on third position, has caught up the speed of the top in round six and is able to set a provisional fastest race lap with 3/10 of a second quicker than the rest of the field. Bit by bit he closes the gap to guest starter Jan Seyffarth, who ranks second. It was in lap nine, when he started his first attack at the end of the start and finish straight. “It’s not easy to pass a guest starter, because he has nothing to loose. So I was quite carefull”, Bleekemolen explained. “You have to take car for so much things, it was a real survival tour than a race.”

The leader of the driver standings in the final phase of the race primarily had to pay attention to the Lechner team-mates Rosina and Faulkner. The two red attacked the Dutchman in the fight for third position, but also battle with each other. “It was an aggressive fight”, Faulkner says. Bleekemolen finally benefits from the situation and saves another podium finish behind Seyffarth.

Hot ride to Pole Position

22.08.2009 - 12:49 Uhr
At temperatures beyond 30° C René Rast with a 2:09.561 minutes lap claimed the Pole Position for the 9th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the street circuit in Valencia. It’s the fourth pole in a row for the MRS-Pilot. At the 5.419 kilometres long track in the Admiral’s Cup harbour Jeroen Bleekemolen with a gap of 0.062 second finished second. Faulkner an Siedler on positions 3 and 4.
Rast-Valencia-cooldown04.jpg
Being the first of the potential pole candidates, Jeroen Bleekemolen was out for a quick lap. After his flying lap on the 5.4 kilometres long street track the watches for the Netherlander stopped at 2:09.623 minutes. He toped the timing sheets for only 2 minutes, than the “man of the second half of the season”, René Rast, undercut Bleekemolens time by 62/1000 seconds. “A pitty, again only second fastest”, comments Bleekemolen on his qualifying. “It was my fault. I made a mistake in the third sector that cost me some tenth of a second. The car was good for pole position, the driver wasn’t.” All the more contentedly MRS pilot René Rast trots in the glowing midday heat from the Parc Fermé to the paddock. “Despite my Problem at the end of the free session yesterday, we did a convincing job today”, he shines. “It looks as if only one quick lap is possible with fresh tyres in the qualifying here at Valencia and although I made a mistake, it was enough in the ende to clinch pole.”

Four in a row – Rast wins again

23.08.2009 - 12:25 Uhr
With his fourth win in a row, René Rast again comes closer to the leader in the driver standings, Jeroen Bleekemolen. The MRS-pilot wins the 9th round of the year in Valencia in front of Jeroen Bleekemolen and Lance David Arnold. It was a turbulent race with an accident of Jiri Janak right after the start.
Valencia-podium.jpg
One more time we made no mistakes”, race winner Rene Rast shines. “We had a perfect car and the right strategy. I hope for more to follow!” The two leaders of the driver standings, Bleekemolen and Rast, sprint with an excellent start to the first corner, that from this day on will have the name of Jiri Janak. The Czech from the team of Franz Konrad, who started from fifth position, misbrakes and with locked wheels crashed into the back of Damien Faulkner’s Lechner Porsche. With that manoeuvre not only the Irish man’s race is ruined, but also the one of the Austrian Norbert Siedler. "Here in this area one likes to throw the anchor in such cases", a competitor with a hint to the locationin the harbour of the Admirals Cup comments the incident. "A thousand times sorry", says the Czech. "I do not have mis-braked, furthermore my brake fading. I am really sorry to destroy the race of some competitors, it was not my intention to do so”, the prospective jurist was depressed. "It was a really confusing situation", championship leader Bleekemolen explains. “René has braked very early; I had to break really hard and than the chaos behind us started." Damien Faulkner completely disappointed comments on the situation: "What a season, everything works against us. Finally we had a good Qualifying and than you get pushed out of the race."

A large step forwards - Jeroen Bleekemolen
“The fight for the title is over”, says René Rast sitting on the stairs of the team truck. The national anthem of the Netherlands is just sounding in the background for the fourth time this year. A couple of minutes ago championship leader Bleekemolen has successfully completed the eleven laps at the circuit in Spa with a start-finish victory and with that gained an advantage of almost 50 points in the driver standings of the championship. “There is not much I can do”, says Rast. “It looks as if Jeroen is through with it.” All signs stand for a successful defence of the drivers title for the Konrad Motorsport Pilot. “With three races to go and such a huge advantage it really should be a soluble task”, the former DTM-Pilot confidently looks forward to the rest of the season. ”However, I didn’t want to make such a big step toward the title under these circumstances. I feel very sorry for René, who had a technical problem." Now, team manager Franz Konrad can put the champagne on ice.

31.10.2009 - 19:10 Uhr

Rivals with respect - Bleekemolen and Rast
"He is a full professional with a lot of experience in many different classes of the motorsports. In my opinion be belongs to the worldwide best drivers behind the steering wheel of a Porsche”, René Rast congratulates the new champion, who was his hardest rival in the 2009 season. “One can rely on Jeroen also in critical and tough situations on the race track - he is a really fair race driver.” Two top-class sportsmen give, who give their respect to each other. “Also Rene was and still is a very strong opponent who once again has considerably improved this year”, Jeroen Bleekemolen bows to his German challenger. "As a driver he makes no faults." He seldom had to deliver such a battle for a championship like this season, Bleekemolen remembers back to the year 2001 in the Netherlands. "At that time I also had only one strong opponent in the Renault Clio Cup, who was hard to beat."

Jeroen Bleekemolen wins the final race of the 2009 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Abu Dhabi in front of René Rast, who in fact crossed the line first, but received a 1 second penalty right after crossing the finish line. Third on the podium of Abu Dhabi was Richard Westbrook. Konrad Motorsport wins the team championship in front of the VELTINS MRS team. Matt Halliday becomes the best 2009 Rookie in front of Siso Cunill.

Records of Rast and Bleekemolen
"This was a terrific race from René (Rast) and me today”, the last winner of the season, Jeroen Bleekemolen rejoices about his fifth victory of the year. Only seconds before the chequered flag Rast had passed the Konrad pilot, took the lead and crossed the finish line first. “However, it was a tough manoeuvre of René Rast, when he passed me, but it was not completely unfair”, Bleekemolen had a breath of appreciation about the attack of the runner-up. “I was already alongside Bleekemolen, so I didn’t have a chance to draw back.” With six victories René Rast is not only runner-up but also the most successful pilot of the year. Opponent Jerome Bleekemolen also obtains a quite special record – he finished all races of the season on the podium. “That’s a great prove of our constancy and quality”, the twice Supercup champion praises his Konrad team. With clinching 13 podium finishes in a single season, Bleekemolen saves another record in the history books of the Supercup. It’s a unique record, although Emmanuel Collard and Wolf Henzler also fetched podium finishes in all rounds during their championship years – however, with nine and eleven rounds in the respective years it was considerably few races at that time.
