Dixon on pole as quailfying got cancelled

01 August 2009

IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon will start from the pole after persistent "weepers" at Kentucky Speedway canceled all on-track activities, including PEAK Performance Pole Qualifying for the Meijer Indy 300 presented by Red Baron and Edy's.

The starting grid was set by entrant points, with Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Dixon and Dario Franchitti side by side on the front row. Water was drawn to the racing surface in multiple locations by the afternoon sunshine, which kept Delphi Safety Team and track workers busy while drivers/teams waited out the delay.

Team Penske teammates Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves will share Row 2 at the start of the race under the lights, while Andretti Green Racing's Danica Patrick and Marco Andretti will be on Row 3. Dan Wheldon of Panther Racing and Justin Wilson of Dale Coyne Racing break up the teammate tag team on Row 4.

Briscoe wins at the Kentucky Speedway

02 August 2009

Texas-start-47.jpg

Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe has won his fourth race in the Indycar series and his second of the season at the Kentucky Speedway. Briscoe finished just 0.0162 seconds ahead of Ed Carpenter who scored his first podium finish of the season. Tony Kanaan finished third.

It was the second victory of the season for Briscoe, who is now also the new championship points leader by eight over Scott Dixon, who finished seventh, and by 11 over Dario Franchitti (sixth place) heading to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where he won last year.

"I'm pretty happy to get another one for Team Penske," Briscoe said. "I just wanted to keep doing what I had been doing. Ed would get a little bit in front of me in the middle of Turns 3 and 4 but with my momentum on the outside I was able to edge him down the back straight. I would time my push to pass button so I would get the extra power through Turns 3 and 4. It was getting tougher and tougher, and I was just jumping in my seat trying to get in front of him across the finish line. It just worked out perfectly.

Maiden win for Power at Edmonton

26 July 2009
Edmonton=podium53.jpg
Will Power scored his first IndyCar Series win, holding off a competitive field to win the Rexall Edmonton Indy over Helio Castroneves.

The Australian, driving the No. 12 Penske Truck Rental car, started from the pole and was in command throughout leading 90 of the 95 laps run. Castroneves shrunk a 6.79-second disadvantage on Lap 85 - after overtaking Scott Dixon in traffic for second place - to 4.58 seconds on Lap 92, but the race's only caution prevented any potential shootout.

Dixon, the 2008 race winner, finished third to retake the series championship points lead and Team Penske's Ryan Briscoe was fourth. Dario Franchitti finished fifth and fan favorite Paul Tracy wound up sixth after starting ninth.

Tony Kanaan sustained burns on his thumbs and face during a Lap 34 pit stop. The fuel hose remained open after the stop, splashing 100 percent fuel-grade ethanol onto the side of the No. 11 Team 7-Eleven car and Kanaan. The fuel ignited, with Kanaan scrambling to extricate himself from the car as Team Penske and Panther Racing crew members doused the car to retard the flames. Kanaan will be re-evaluated by Indy Racing League medical personnel this week.

Robert Doornbos and Newman/Haas are splitting up affective immediately.

Boody D is taken up the possibility to leave the team after 12 race`s.
This possibility whas implemented in his contract with Newman/Haas.
Robert has the intention to stay in the Indy racing League en will make his plans public in a short time.
Doornbos currently 15th overall in the championship hat difficulties with the team.

I think Robert is better of in the states...:chuck:
And dont forget, ING will be leaving at the end of the season.

  • Wido Rossen

Absolutely, but after that good year in the champcars whe expected to mutch a guess.

If Bourdais hadn't been available I think Robert would still be in a job. If they get Bourdais that will really help Graham Rahal, as he's been the team leader and he's not experienced or mature enough to play that role. I think it will improve Rahal's speed too - now we'll find out if he's anywhere near as good as his father.

Maybe Doornbos in the Renault :p. ING -> Dutch, just like Robert

Hmmm, thats an interesting one Johan! Yeah, why not. He drove that car before at the Bavaria City Racing last year right?

Good call by Robert to leave the team, because i find his performance this season extremely poor. Expected him to do much better, even as a rookie

It`s official:

doornbos-inside-08032009.jpg

HVM Racing will run two cars in the IndyCar Series for the remainder of the 2009 season after signing Robert Doornbos to drive for the team through 2010. he deal returns the Dutch driver to the team for which he won Champ Car Rookie of the Year honors in 2007.

Doornbos will drive the No. 33 car beginning with this weekend's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio presented by Westfield Insurance. The addition gives PDVSA HVM Racing team driver E.J. Viso a teammate to work with - a benefit he previously had for only one race this season when Nelson Philippe drove for HVM in the Indianapolis 500.

Doornbos, 27, drove for HVM Racing in 2007 when the team competed under the name Team Minardi USA. He celebrated victories at Mont-Tremblant and San Jose, finished the season third in the championship standings and captured Rookie of the Year honors
