After thirteen years away from our screens, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is back. This modern iteration promises to return to the original Tokyo Xtreme Racer routes.

Players young and old are welcomed back onto the expressways that encircle a futuristic Tokyo. It has been thirteen years since the franchise's third instalment hit our screens, but soon, Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be back. The new title promises everything the old games offered, but with a modern twist.

The X account for Tokyo Xtreme Racer has just one post with a short video announcing the return of the franchise, and there is next to no information, gameplay or news on what the new title will contain. However, there has been a return to form promised with the style of the old games being brought over into the modern title.

One of the big selling points for the last game released in the franchise, Import Tuner Challenge, is the crazy amount of customization options. With a claimed 5 million differing combinations to choose from, the bar is set very high forTokyo Xtreme Racer.

Alongside the many in-game brands, officially licensed parts from Veilside, C-West, Recaro and Bride were part of Import Tuner Challenge. Could we see a return for some of these brands to the new title?

A first look at the renders for the Tokyo expressways in Tokyo Xtreme Racer

As mentioned previously, little is known about the title so far with the Japanese studio not having a big social media presence. However, despite the Steam page being very new, there is a predicted release date of 2025.

Whilst this is a very vague date on the surface, the fact that we are only just finding out about the new game points to a Quarter 3, or more likely, a Quarter 4 release.

A returning title like Tokyo Extreme Racer is always a nice nostalgia trip for the racing game community, there are a lot of expectations. If the game does not live up to these expectations of the fans from the previous titles, the series might struggle to retain its fan base - but it is too early to tell, of course.

The key should be to incorporate the magic of the original whilst making it replayable and attention-grabbing for a more modern audience. Time will tell if developer and publisher Genki Co. Ltd can get it right.

Would make sense as it's very popular in AC, going by all the You Tube videos I seen with this type of Highway Driving....has made an appearance in BeamNG as well.

Going by the images it looks ok

Not really when this will be an actual game and not just a joyriding sandbox
Right, I was thinking the exact opposite. Don't know what the others are smoking.
It will be an actual game: more cars, tuning, customization, a campaign, player stats, probably more map or maybe touges from TXRD2, etc. And I expect physics will be fine because while past games were on the jank side, Genki has always had the right idea and it shouldn't be an issue to implement these days.

I played xtreme racer zero, it was a fun game, it had personality and lore. But I'm waiting for this new game more as a track donor to the modders of the Shutoko or whatever way they call it for AC2. Simulator level physics trumps everything.
