The early launch for pre-orders of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown's Gold Edition saw big technical issues. The developer team posted a statement regarding the problems.

Fans were looking forward to hitting the streets of Hong Kong Island as early as 08:00 UTC on September 5 in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown - instead, they could not connect to the racing MMO's servers for most of the day. It was only towards the evening that things finally got up and running, with players being less than happy, to put it mildly.

To address the issues that plagued TDU SC's early launch for those who purchased the Gold Edition, the developer team put out a statement to explain the situation. According to this, all platforms were affected by the server issues. To combat them, multiple fixes have supposedly been made behind the scenes, as the team has been "working tirelessly to stabilize the servers so that everyone can enjoy the game as soon as possible":

  • Our server team has actively investigated the root causes of connection failures.
  • We have implemented server optimizations to handle the high volume of players trying to access the game.
  • We have increased server capacity to reduce queues and connection failures.
  • Our quality assurance team has conducted thorough tests to ensure the stability of our fixes before deploying them.

These fixes have "helped partially", but "some of them have also introduced new technical challenges." The team is "actively working to resolve all the network issues and thank you again for your patience." Furthermore, Nacon and Kylotonn apologize for the inconveniences players experienced all day.

What the statement does not include is any hint at possible compensation for players. A possible route in cases like this would be to award players who had to wait up to eight hours to enjoy their pre-order bonus - so access to TDU SC seven days ahead of the full release - with in-game assets like currency, bonus cars, or something similar. We will keep our eyes peeled for any news in this regard.

Paying for early acces is just paying more for a worse game experience
Early access was just a "perk" of ordering the most expensive edition with extras included but it clearly hasn't gone smoothly at all. Overlooking stress testing servers is a massive oversight that will now be costing them a fortune with having to have people work to sort it

I think those negative reviews were mainly people that couldn't connect. I'm quite enjoying it, although I could be in the minority.
Read some of the reviews saying it was system intensive for some poor graphics?

Sorry to say but this happened all though all alpha builds and betas i played like 4/5 builds, so i played all up when been able to connect a WHOLE 1.3 hours because there servers where always down

This sounds like it might be free2play soon. Almost every other well known racing-ip I liked so far has been mistreated. Does that mean well see a new pgr and midnight club 2026 lol!?
