The last significant update hit last year, but now in just over a week, the nascent sim racing platform will begin its 2024 roll-out.

Yes, before you ask, Rennsport is still in Closed Beta and will remain that way until further notice.

However, after a period of relative silence, the Competition Company (the organisation behind the embryonic sim racing platform) has woken from its slumber and announced what to expect in the next update.

Q1 Time Trial Update

For those in the Rennsport closed beta, perhaps the most significant addition for the next update is set to be the inclusion of dynamic time of day.

In-engine footage was showcased today, 19th March, during an episode of ‘Radio Check’, a new quarterly communication series.

We can see clouds traversing skies, and when doing so changing the shadows and lighting cast down upon the track. The system is set to feature dawns, sunsets and plain night-time driving.

Whilst it was showcased on Hockenheimring and Spa, it will only initially be available for the latter.

In terms of new content, two items that were first shown way back during the in-person Summit 1 event in May 2022 will be in the beta – the electric Porsche Mission R concept race car and the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb course.

The British stately home course was previously shown in a significantly updated form at the – yes, you’ve guessed it – the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed event.

“Time trials are the main feature of this update,” said freshly appointed Lead Game Designer, Kim Orremark.

A time trial system seems to be previewed very briefly in a video clip where a Mission R chases a ghost up Goodwood and is down to “systemic changes” that allow for “very precise ghost data” according to Orremark.

Nice hoodie, Kim…

There’s no word yet on the Porsche 963 LMDh, which was previewed back in July 2023. Of potential note, Orremark is wearing a hoodie with the BMW M Hybrid V8 on it – huh…

Further Keys

When the new update lands next week, it is also expected that a ‘big’ key ‘drop’ will happen, presumably to those who have already joined the waiting list.

“The next big key drop will be somewhere in the vicinity of 27th March, when the new update releases, either the day of or the day before, but close to the new update,” confirmed Orremark.

The Time Trial update for Rennsport is set for a 27th March release for those with access.

The team did provide several other hints, clues and confirmations, which we’ve detailed in a separate article. This includes a rough timeline for the closed beta to end, GT4 cars, McLarens and VR support.
