After adding the Nürburgring-Nordschleife to mark the start of the Open Beta, Rennsport is set to expand its track lineup with the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the home of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

With the ESL R1 final being held from August 22 to 25 at the Esports World Cup in Riad, Saudi Arabia, Rennsport looks to add the home of the country's Formula One race - the Jeddah Cornice Circuit is coming to the sim.

Dubbed "the fastest street circuit in Formula One", Jeddah made its F1 debut in 2021 and has been on the calendar ever since. It is located directly on the Red Sea coastline, and the 2022 edition featured one of the weirdest and controversial moments in F1 history - not in direct connection to the racing itself, but rather a missile attack on an oil refinery just 11 kilometers outside of the track.

The event went ahead, but reports soon surfaced that drivers and teams could apparently be forced to stay in the country should they opt not to race. In the end, the actual race took place without issue, although Mick Schumacher had to withdraw due to a quali crash, and a further six cars retired. Red Bull's Max Verstappen took the win, his first of 15 that year.

High-speed Barrier Dodging

The circuit itself is a high-speed proposition, as mentioned - and it being a street circuit does not make it any easier. High-downforce cars in particular need to perfectly thread the needle to avoid ending up in the barriers. After the 2022 WTCR finale on a shortened version, the first GT3 at the track is due to be held on November 30, when the GT World Challenge makes station for the 6 Hours of Jeddah.

Sim racers can throw different cars at the track as first-party content for the first time outside of the F1 game series in Rennsport once the track is out. Of course, there is also this high-quality Assetto Corsa mod by @Tyrone - Nukedrop Mods if you want to expand the list of possible vehicles even further.

A release date for the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Rennsport has not been given yet, but we imagine it to be a possibility for the track to be added in time for the ESL R1 final to mark the occasion.

Since they use the Unreal engine, I don't think that's possible; see ACC & EA WRC. It's due to deferred rending, which for VR, is a sin. It's the same reason the GTRevival ditched the Unreal engine, despite being quite far along in development.
Very true, the only hope is that they switch to forward rendering or that they implement quad views dynamic foveated rendering. Both are probably not going to happen.

I mean, that's neat for sure, but maybe fix some other things now? Maybe add some AI racing or something?

I don't think this gives me any excitement whatsoever...

Hopefully this track was chosen to develop something further and I hope it's free so it gets used to help aid that development...

How they can keep the company afloat is what amaze me! Could learn a thing or two from them.

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right
