Rally Trophy Partially Recreated in Wreckfest

Bugbear Entertainment has given Wreckfest players a chance to experience the classic Rally Trophy game experience in a Wreckfest tournament.

The undeniably smile-inducing game Wreckfest has released a very interesting update. Developer Bugbear Entertainment is celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the release of their Rally Trophy game by re-releasing it in part through a Wreckfest tournament.

Steam players will have the opportunity to use the Boomer RS car over a roughly 6-minute windy forested Russian rally stage designed to recreate what Rally Trophy was like 20 years ago. The car bears a resemblance to the 1971 Ford Escort found in Rally Trophy.

Wreckfest has become a common platform for sim racers to relax and have some laughs since its release. While it's marketed with fun in mind, the driving and damage models are impressively complex. Many high-profile charity and fun events have been held in Wreckfest, as the omnipresent possibility of T-boning a rival on track or being T-boned tends to level the playing field and shift the advantage from who has the best outright pace to who can keep their vehicle on track while laugh-crying.

Great game, have to jump in Wreckfest and take a look. I remember being massively excited at the time when the first screens of Flatout appeared, Bugbear looked like they were on a roll.

Or a proper RX-game. I still remember Codemasters asking about them making an RX game years ago on facebook, and I commented "I would rather have Bugbear do it". I got an answer from Codies as well. A while later DiRT Rally was released in Early Access.
I genuinely do believe that Bugbear creating a proper RX game would be awesome! With that being said, using wreckfest as a bilcross/folkrace/jokkis-sim, using joker lap once each race, and racing seriously, not intentionally hitting etc is one of the most fun experiences ever!
Back when it was still in Early Access, there was a Swedish server which always had admins online, it was strictly B-Class cars, and intentional ramming/spinning out led to being kicked. Imagine 20+ drivers on RX tracks, driving fair but hard. Sounds fun? I promise, it was 10x more fun than it sounds! :D

When we did our RD events, driving "seriously" was the most fun. Until you had to spin, flip and completely destroy the little fecker who kept you behind for 3 laps hahaha.

But seriously: I'd love some "racing" career in wreckfest with AI that isn't coded to ram you as much as they can while suiciding most of the time...

Or a real online category for this. With tools/rules and functions implemented by the game itself.
The driving in wreckfest is exactly like my old mb c class drove in a snowy parking lot.
It's not really "real" to have that behavior at over 100 kp/h but it's so much fun and intuitive!

RD Event you say?

Yes! Is it just me, or did they change the AI aggression in an update? I felt like they were actually driving quite RX'y before, now they just ram you off.

Yeah it seems there was an update.. Long time ago and since then any AI is just annoying and nothing else. :(

This is what I'm thinking as an option when I'm doing regular-track racing in Wreckfest.

I've never driven a rally game, however I would buy one immediately if Wreckfest put one out.

I can't play racing games at the moment but as soon as I can, I'll try this! I was thinking abour rally trophy last week, after having found a fix to make the wheel working. And now this stage in Wreckfest!
They should make a DLC or release a full remake!

Wreckfest, in terms of physics and FFB, is really quite good. The whole "spiritual successor to Flat Out" thing I think has caused it to be viewed as a bit more arcadey than it actually is.

I followed the early access development quite closely and the devs, for better or worse, kept improving the physics and feel for, IMO, long after they needed to for an apparent "arcade" title. As a result, it drives really very well, especially on loose surfaces. It feels significantly less "arcade" to me than, say, the Grid series.
