A new week means a new set of events in our Racing Club. Here's what's on tap from November 3 to 10 for our Premium Members.

A bit of competition in modern cars, plus retro racing - sometimes even at the same track: Our Racing Club continues with more interesting events and scenarios, this time including open-wheel action again as well.

The schedule features events in Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, EA Sports WRC and rFactor 2 this week, all in a friendly, relaxed setting. Check back over the course of the week, as more events usually get added, including those of our Rally Club!

What is the Racing Club?

As we recently merged our websites, the OverTake community that had not been around on RaceDepartment before, we felt it might be useful to explain what the Racing Club actually is. Simply put, it is just what the name implies - a club to go racing in.

There is a bit more to it though, of course. The Racing Club hosts events throughout the week in the following simulations:
  • Assetto Corsa
  • Assetto Corsa Competizione
  • Automobilista 2
  • EA Sports WRC
  • RaceRoom (currently inactive)
  • rFactor 2

Racing Club events are open to Premium Members only. However, there are occasional 'Rookie Weeks' or non-Premium Member events to allow everyone to try the Club. To keep track of what events are happening during the week, keep an eye on this post, which will be updated weekly.

Just Good, Clean Racing

If you are hesitant about online racing, the Racing Club is nothing to be afraid of. The contrary, actually: It is not about competitive racing and who wins in the end, but rather about having a good time on track - with good, clean racing. This is the core element of the Racing Club.

Do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it, either! The Club regulars are a helpful bunch, so even online newcomers should feel comfortable in no time and even learn a thing or two.

There are Racing Club rules, of course. They include certain on-track behaviour that is expected of participants, like how to handle incidents and racing around other cars. You can find the full Racing Club rules list here.

How To Sign Up

Getting up and running for Club races is easy. As a Premium Member, simply head to the Racing Club forum, find the thread of the event you want to participate in and state your intent to be on the grid. The Club staff member who organizes the event will add you to the list of drivers then. Note that you will need to have your real name added to your user profile to race, as part of the Club rules. Your username does not need to be changed, though.

Come race time, you will receive the server password. Simply show up, join the party on the OverTake Discord server and go racing - have fun, and see you on track!

Which Racing Club events are you looking to enter this week? Let us know on Twitter @OverTake_gg or in the comments below!

I've been thinking about joining premium to join these races for a bit now. Can anyone tell me what the attendance is usually like? And what about the driving standards?
Hi Mrshroom,

Most of the AC events have 10+ up to 20+ participants, depending on the combo and the season. (I don't know about the other sims.)
If you're new to online racing, the best way is to try some of the FWD vs RWD events on Wednesday. The cars used are the most easy to drive so you can concentrate on racing instead of fighting the car. Most of us have started in this class and have become a lot faster. Our community welcomes the less experienced and the regular participants are all very helpful and understanding towards newcomers.

The driving standards are based on clean and respectful racing. You can read the rules here https://www.overtake.gg/threads/racedepartment-racing-club-league-rules.10977/#post-530016. Our events are hosted by a staff member who make sure that drivers who misbehave will get banned temporarely or even permantly. That's also explained in the rules.

If you want to join, please read the first post of the event thread very carefully to know what you have to do.

I hope to see you on track soon!

Hi MarkModdy,

The FWD vs RWD series is very suitable for novice drivers. One is participating now. The cars are simple with limited setup options and the participants are very friendly and helpful to new participants. It's a good stepping stone to other series by learning the basics of racing and experiencing how to race against people.

I'll send you a PM with some useful information and a good basic setup for the MX5. You can participate without any problem.

And there's no need to be discouraged if you're a straggler in your first race. We all improved a lot in these series by practicing and learning from others. And we're having a lot of fun in the meantime.

For anyone interested, the LMP2's are out next Sunday 21st, following up the WEC event at Imola next weekend. All are more than welcome.

Redundant now, sorry. Can delete.

Quick question for the WRC drivers. Is it worth?

I really liked Dirt Rally 2. I would be happy if it was the same, just with new tracks. Is it even better? Or perhaps worse than Dirt Rally 2?

Uhm. Some like the mother, others like the daughter? :p

I feel like the driving itself is better. It is clearly not a revolutionary game, and if they hadn't gotten the WRC license it would easily be DiRT Rally 3. It won't be a wow-experience, and the game is still not amazingly optimized.

There is a lot of new stages, and the roads are based on real roads, but the roadside objects, vegetation etc isn't as well made as the DiRT Rally games, so it can look a bit wide and open.

The career-mode isn't amazing, if that's something you are looking forward to.

It is Codemasters asphalt physcis, and RWD cars are like in DiRT Rally 2.0 (e.g I can't handle them properly unless I find that setup thingy I found for DR 2.0).

Also. They use a traditional way of recording pacenotes for this game, and not the DiRT Rally way of putting the co-drivers in a motion rig-seat with helmet on and recording in real time. This is the traditional way of recording and "placing" the pacenotes as the stages are made. Though, in one questionnaire they gave players, there was a question about a pacenote editor, and that is a possibility with tradtionally recorded notes like this.

To sum it up. Buy it on a sale, and join us in the club then :)

it is now a couple of years since I raced with RD, I took a years subscription to do just that, race with AMS2. We had a great build up of racers, hitting more than 20 each week and the host just dropped it one week, don't remember the reason, had something else to do, and it never recovered.
That and a low quality of racing standards in my personal racing experience with RD, no it was not clean and fair racing, but the usual DGAF attitude I see in most every club I've ever participated with. A ****show at L1T1, you know the score! I have to say that Jimmi who runs (or at least did) the VEC has set the standard for racing stewarding imho.

Thanks, "he" still runs that - but is actually now also involved in OT, so the DGAF attitude is not going anywhere if I find that somewhere :)
What i have seen sofar in Club Races is a very casual approach tbh

A few comments here deride driving standards which I'm surprised with tbh.

Been here for a good few years, and whilst there's some 'dodgy geezers' occasionally (they soon leave!), it's far better here than most places out there. The organisers are really on it and don't take any :poop:. You'll get great banter, setup help and encouragement. Just my 2 cents:)

Is there a way to watch the club races, either live or recorded? Also, it's a long while since I used Assetto Corsa so I require getting up to speed before entering a club race. The last, (only?) race I did with RaceDepartment (as it was known as then) was V8Supercars at Melbourne in AMS2. I recall there being a practice server, so are practice servers available to use even if one doesn't enter for a race?
Many thanks

Hi Mark,

Please join if you can the Wednesday FWD vs RWD series https://www.overtake.gg/threads/fwd-vs-rwd-sachsenring-wed-26th-june-2024.273434/ . These are very suited for less experienced drivers and the community is very helpful and understanding. The Suzuki (FWD) and the MX5 (RWD) are the easiest cars to drive and for both I can provide you with a basic setup.

There's really no need to wait! I will send you a PM with some information and the password for the practice server which is running 24/7.

Yes Neal, i remember you. Every story has two sides and if i recall you would often throw your toys out of the cot if things did not go your way plus also if i recall, your driving standards were not great and it was always someone elses fault.
I can assure anyone thinking of joining the events posted on here that it is NOT quote 'DGAF' end quote. Everyone drives with respect and with all skill levels respected by everyone. We have a laugh and giggles as well as a competative race while the event is running. Sometimes we even take the mick out of each other, what can be more fun than that. Newcomers are very very welcome and we promise to not take the mick out of you until we get to know you.
