Nvidia has dropped an artistic bomb on the Forza Motorsport PC playerbase by integrating their DLSS 3 software with their intricate Ray Traced Global Illumination graphical setting. The invigorating graphics update was implemented into update 15 for Forza Motorsport on December 9th. Update 15 will be the final chance for Forza Motorsport in a tricky 2024.

For Nvidia, 2024 has seen the company go from strength to strength. More than 600 games and applications now feature their RTX technology, and each week, new games integrate NVIDIA DLSS and Ray Tracing Global Illumination (RTGI). The most exciting title for racing game fans in the latest collection is Forza Motorsport on PC.

RTGI is a new setting that must be enabled and is not set up on any default profiles within Forza Motorsport. To turn your race circuits into Picasso paintings, set "Ray-tracing Quality" to "Full Reflections + RTGI." Once set up, the game may ask to be restarted to see any effects. Choose a quality level under "RTGI Quality."

To maximize the performance of your hardware and Forza Motorsport itself, activate DLSS Super Resolution in the settings menu. If your PC is up to the task, you could also take it to the next level by setting the image quality to "DLAA."

Graphical redemption​

The DLAA image mode is unsurprisingly based on an AI platform built to showcase the very best in anti-aliasing. The new mode utilizes technology developed for the lighter DLSS mode. However, the big difference between the two settings is that DLAA uses native-resolution images to maximize image quality, therefore sacrificing a boost in performance in the name of a richer player experience.

These screenshots remind us here at OverTake of what was promised from Forza Motorsport's pre-release. It may have taken over a year, but the title finally receives those gorgeous graphics that so many people were disappointed they missed out on when the game was released.

No matter if car's don't have reliable data, it's all about the bling ! 🤡

yeah but we need 5090 to play at 4k 144fps constant without DLSS, the 4090 is not enough good for the last title for me. In fact I have never found a GPU with enough power, everytime I want more.

This is why I stop funding all engines other then the one I consider is trying to do their best to get as close to a reasonably accurate driving model.

The 120 fps locked and never dipping in GT7 on PS5 Pro is almost incomprehensible with all the rest unable to come remotely close. But it is truly mind blowing and the new minimum of any racing sim. Once you race it, everything else feels like mud.

I will never trust Turn10 again, they deserve the BSers of the decade trophy/award and I hope its built from the ground up too.

This story reminds me also of how ACC was marketed as an RTX title with the "tech demo" demonstrating RT graphics. All purposly used to entice people to buy the latest Nvidia card at the time but them knowing full well it was not for coming to the game.

MOAN - Why do we have so many sneeky assholes, working in companies seemingly willing to purposly go around deceving people in the gaming industry..

Maybe its more with older age creeping in but I am sick to the teeth of companies and titles not living up to the pre-hype or them turn out to be how they were promoted.

GT7 in fairness, is quite incredible for a console title, sure not without its own flaws but easy to enjoy, fun and with various gaming modes to experience it now. Yet it still keeps delivering free updates and content.

I tested it and for me it's a very small difference, it doesn't look like the pre-release version at all

Is it just me but here is the best PC spec you can get and compare this with GT7 on a PS5 PRO.
Id still say GT7 in certain cases/ways still looks better and can be enjoyed in VR too if desired.

You're confusing raytracing with DLSS, which are two completely different things.

Kunos dropped the RT implementation because it was too costly in terms of performance. They've stuck to their guns and won't be implementing it for ACE either, opting instead for screen space reflections again.
DLSS has been implemented instead and is a great tool to use with DLDSR to get better graphics at no performance cost.

I have a 4080S and I can tell in what I tested DLSS is just another placebo for eye candy lovers nothing more.

RT / DLSS / PhysX ETC. same thing.
Does nothing to improve racing, maybe better to fix those terrible AI instead.

OFC he is confusing RT with DLSS .... sigh, DLSS is not a placebo at all, RT may be..... depends on its application and btw ACC doesnt have RT !!!

When driving bonnet cam on the XBSX version, I found the image very soft. Textures lacked detail IMHO. This could be due to too much post processing. I realize many wouldn't even notice or be bothered. But even the textures on the circuit closest to the car was severely lacking and my eyes just had issues with the gfx and replays because of this. I really think as a whole, each Forza has gone backwards since 3 & 4.

the 4K 120fps on ps5 pro is not even at the level of a 2560x1440p all max on PC, the PS5 pro uses probably downscale techs and it's not really beauty like a true max 4K on PC.
I admit GT7 on ps5 pro 4K looks good, but when zoomed and closely look, it feels blurry, but good on 4K TV at 3 meters ;), Forza Motorsport without DLSS at 4K max on PC is clear and not blurried at all.

Dont hope a PS5 pro will render better than a 4090, it uses downscale techs, less visible at 3 meters on a TV but very very noticeable if you compare closeley it with a PC a true 4K max without DLSS.

You can render and compare a PC at 2560x1440 full max on a TV at 3 meters and a ps5 pro at 4k on a TV a 3 meters, the same game, it will be interesting.

Comparing forza vs GT, I prefer the GT graphics, there is a cartoon style in Forza that I dont like.

Absolutely true Nigel! And it's so frustrating because they really were leading the pack and innovating for a good bit. Then they decided to just park it in the weeds and throw fuel all over it and just watch it smolder. An absolute shame.

I even did the full hp 45L 4090 i9 everything and the kitchen sink and just found it infuriating how abysmal FM had devolved to. So it did force me to get a PS5 and GT7 this year, and shocked is an understatement. From hell to heaven. Having to upgrade my DD2 to a DD+ for the full 250hz PS5 Fanatec FFB is just part of the sim racing admission, amiright!? And the Nations Cup world series racing has been absolutely amazing, worth two to three times the cost if not more, while every penny on FM is a miserable nightmare I hope to block from my memory. silver linings.

LOL no. Ray Tracing, DLSS and PhysX are not remotely the same thing.
DLSS does an excellent job of improving performance alongside DLDSR. Higher framerates is not just eye candy, especially in racing sims. With a 4080 it likely won't make much difference for you, but on a 3080 some games/sims like ACC are basically unplayable without DLSS.

Ray Tracing can GTFO though. Absolutely not worth it.

Who cares what it looks like if it drives like crap?
Graphics have always sold games and hardware upgrades. Isnt even i-racing working towards a new graphics engine...

BTW guys I just was sharing most recently published on top end hardware.

In comparison.....
GT7 now let's the user experience it how they want with FPS/Eyecandy modes but the RT can make a nice difference, if you want that with nicer lighting and shading. Native 4K is possible without RT on PRO as shown in various videos.

I have developed a series of tactile effects for GT7 that help transform the experience with the (specific solution) I have been working on the past year. Still ranks for me highly as a very nice racing game, I can now enjoy at 120, or with RT eyecandy and easily switch between screen or VR usage. It really is a technically accomplished title that will never get lauded here because its a console and for those perhaps expecting to be something it's not. What it has done is shape and include the car industry like no other title.

Yet what it also does, is set a standard in various ways that some other titles compare poorly too. FM quality, has continued to get worse over the years. GT has improved and that's the main difference.

Been working towards installing a (4 grand), Sonos Ultra, dual subwoofer, Era 300 Dolby Atmos 9.1.4 setup for my custom rig build. Can say that GT finally has some awesome audio too.

These are not technologies to "improve racing". These are graphical technologies. They have no effect on the sim's physics engine.

DLSS (FSR, XeSS, TSR) is used to render the game at a lower resolution than native and reconstruct the image without losing much image quality, meanwhile reducing GPU load, improving performance. DLSS is considered to be the best in the category. The anti-aliasing can even be better than native TAA sometimes. If you are not GPU limited, you don't have to use it, or maybe only try the highest quality preset.

Ray tracing is a technology to better simulate how light bounces, moves, to create a more realistic image (shadows, reflections, ambient shadows, global illumination, etc.). However for open spaces like we have in racing games it usually doesn't do much, or rather a very similar result can be achieved with conventional rendering methods. RT is also a pretty new and demanding tech - paving the way for tech like DLSS to "help".

PhysX is GPU accelerated particle rendering with calculated physical movement - so also more of a graphical feature.

In the early days yes, but we've been in the realms of diminishing returns on graphics for a decade now, and is no longer the sole reason to upgrade.

A case in point is that with the current Playstation user base almost half (46%) are still using the PS4, and that's 4 years after the release of the PS5. Now a lot of that maybe due to the initial shortages of the PS5, but I suspect that a lot of these PS4 hold outs looked at the PS5 and decided it simply wasn't worth it.

As far sim racing concerned, if I'm watching a stream or onboard video then most of the time the only way I can tell which sim it is is by the HUD. Other than that they all look pretty much the same, and have done for the best part of 10 years now.

Nope, graphics are no longer the major selling point these days.
