Available for free from the PlayStation store on December 6th, My First Gran Turismo is designed for new and young future sim racers. It teaches users about a set list of cars, ranging from American muscle cars to modern Japanese sports cars. Lots of modes and a simplified version of Gran Turismo 7 are a fantastic way to introduce new players to the hobby.

The iconic 'License Centre' is back, bringing My First Gran Turismo's learning environment to the forefront of the game. After all, this is precisely what this small introduction to the world of Gran Turismo 7 is all about.

Alongside the licences, the slightly left-of-field 'Music Rally' is also available for those wanting to experience driving to a set pace. The expected time trials and single races are also present.

More Than Just Driving

My First Gran Turismo is a title designed to introduce new and young players to the world of sim racing and the automotive world. Some players will not know the difference between a Japanese car and a European car; therefore, the descriptions and explanations shown for each vehicle are a fantastic addition to aid new players in understanding cars in general.

With the learning experience defined in My First Gran Turismo, the collecting aspect of its bigger brother, Gran Turismo 7, is also present. The car collection shows eighteen varying cars, from offroad 4x4s to 90s Japanese sports cars right up to Volvo estate cars.

The variety is good to see, especially since people are learning how to drive in a sim for the first time. One aspect that would have been nice to see would be adding at least one racing car, such as a GT4 or a touring car. But even with that aspect missing, it does not spoil it. The title is free to download, and everyone has to start somewhere.

The possibility of new cars being added is rather slim; after all, My First Gran Turismo is meant to be a stepping stone to the world of Gran Turismo 7. With the cars on offer, outside of a race car of some description, the list fits the goal of the game.

Offline Leaderboard Competition

It is great to see the return of an offline leaderboard reminiscent of older GT titles where you could enter your fastest time with a specific car and track combination. This feature is a great way to get some friendly competition between family members or friends on a single console.

Overall, it is good to see such a prestigious series as Gran Turismo cater to new fans with a modern title that is free to download, taking away that paywall and allowing anyone and everyone with a PlayStation 5 access to the world of Gran Turismo.

What do you think about Polyphony Digital reaching out to new players through the new demo-style My First Gran Turismo? Do you have someone you will be recommending this title to? Let us know in the comments down below!

Very cool of them to do this of course IF there is ZERO predatory loot box mtxs. The literal cancer of games which exploit kids and vulnerable adults.

If the full intention is innocent and a passion to show youngsters the beauty of driving and racing all types of cars to give them a fundamental understanding of cars in general then props to them. Would be cool to see more devs use their platforms as a positive tool

Too bad GT is only for PS or I would have it already. I really miss my time in the earlier ones. Played all of them up to and including 4. ...Interact V3 Racing wheel DE edition. Nothing will ever come close to the feelings which early 2000s sim racing gave my young self. Been chasing the dragon ever since. Sure would like to get my youngest into this. Well see how it goes! I guess I have to consider a console. Damn you Sony, ya got me!

If it wasnt clear, I think this is an awesome idea.

Very cool. Makes me remember getting my PlayStation Xmas 97. The bundled demo included a game called cart world series. That was my first realistic driving game with a 'simulation mode'. I bet some will share a similar experience with this release during the upcoming holiday.
