The Rennsport Closed Beta is set to expand this time next week, with a 1.8.5 update that includes a new car, track and endurance-racing-related features.
Fresh gameplay features are heading the way of those in the Rennsport closed beta, alongside some new content.
There’s an extra track, the arrival of a much-teased prototype and further news of what is expected late this year.
The 1.8.5 update will be available 16th May 2024.
But, before all of that, it has been confirmed that pitstops, longer racers, damage and increased grid sizes will be available when the 1.8.5 update lands later this month.
The total race entry size will grow from 12 to 24 cars, and multi-class races consisting of LMDh and GT3 car categories are said to be possible.
How the pitstops function, what damage can occur and how long exactly the races will be remains unclear, other than not “full-blown six-hour races yet,” according to Lead Game Designer, Kim Orremark.
A feature seemingly added for league racers, there should be the ability to add your own trackside advertising banner plus the ability to add friends via the Rennsport companion app.
“It's the base for the Rennsport Club system we will introduce by the end of the year.
Potential features touted for the community aspects include push notifications when a friend beats your best time or loading a friend’s ghost car.
The long-awaited Porsche 963 LMDh will also arrive with the next update, bringing with it a new class of contemporary race car.
This was first showcased in July 2023 and will finally be playable within the beta seven days from now.
It will be joined by Fuji International Speedway. The Japanese venue dates back to the mid-1960s, and while it had held Formula 1 races, it is perhaps best known for hosting sportscars such as the FIA World Endurance Championship and the local Super GT competition.
This update is claimed to be an extension of the previously published 2024 roadmap for the embryonic sim racing platform. Within the ‘Q2’ window a 1.9.0 update is also expected, with changes to in-game progression, online ranking systems, GT4 cars – plus additional GT3 machinery.
The Rennsport-utilising ESL R1 sim racing competition returns one day after the latest update for six online rounds and one in-person LAN event at the Esports World Cup. Further features pertaining to ‘endurance racing’ are expected later in the year.
The platform is currently committed to distributing 2,500 keys per week. Have you received one recently? Let us know in the comments below or on X: @OverTake_gg
