Motorsport Games To "Accelerate Efforts" For Le Mans Ultimate Console Versions

Le Mans Ultimate is in the middle of completing its 2024 WEC season content. The game could come to consoles sooner than later, too, as Motorsport Games decided to "accelerate efforts".

Since its Early Access release in February 2024, Le Mans Ultimate has progressed steadily, with a long list of things still to do as of August 2024. The official WEC game has started releasing 2024 season content ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, with three more DLC packs set to follow.

Console versions of LMU have not been a priority thus far, but it looks like this is going to change. In its Q2 Financial Report, developer/publisher Motorsport Games implies that the prospect of Le Mans Ultimate on Xbox and PlayStation should gain more traction. MSG CEO Stephen Hood is quoted stating that "given the strong reception to our ongoing development of the Le Mans Ultimate game, we have decided to accelerate efforts to bring this title to games consoles and reach a larger audience."

It is likely that LMU's excursions to the European WEC rounds could have sparked this thought, as the game was playable at the events - an opportunity that many endurance racing fans took. As consoles are more accessible, the question about LMU coming to Xbox and PlayStation was most likely very present at the Le Mans Ultimate tent.

Most recently, the first DLC pack containing the Peugeot 9X8 Evo, Lamborghini SC63 and Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Imola was launched for the game.

Major Revenue Stream Set To Disappear

Additionally, it could be a way to open up another revenue stream for the company - and one that is very much needed.

As the Finanical Report states, MSG "expects to continue to have a net cash outflow from operations for the foreseeable future as it continues to develop its product portfolio and invest in developing new video game titles."

While the company did post an increase of "cash and cash equivalents of approximately $0.5 million, which increased to $1.3 million as of July 31, 2024", it also notes that this increase was "primarily due to $0.9 million in net proceeds received from a registered direct offering transaction that closed on July 29, 2024." Put a bit simpler, MSG sold a significant chunk of shares to "use the net proceeds from this offering for working capital and general corporate purposes", according to the corresponding press release.

Furthermore, the latest SEC Filing of Motorsport Games points out that most of the company's revenue in Q2 was not generated by the sales of Le Mans Ultimate, but rather their NASCAR games - namely 55.5%. Considering that after the sale of the NASCAR license to iRacing MSG can only sell these games until the end of 2024, a major revenue stream is set to disappear for the company.

"Concurrently with the sale of our NASCAR License, we entered into an agreement with NTP pursuant to which we have a limited non-exclusive right and license to, among other things, sell our NASCAR games and DLCs that are currently in our product portfolio through December 31, 2024 (the “NASCAR New Limited License”)."
MSG Q2 2024 SEC Filing explaining the NASCAR license situation (found under "Item 2").

To combat this, Motorsport Games is "actively exploring several options, including, but not limited to: i) additional funding in the form of potential equity and/or debt financing arrangements or similar transactions; ii) other strategic alternatives for its business, including, but not limited to, the sale or licensing of the Company’s assets in addition to its recent sales of its NASCAR license and Traxion; and iii) further cost reduction and restructuring initiatives."

Until I can join friends and other Overtake Racing Club drivers for a race, either hosted ourselves or via whatever they put in place, I've lost all interest. If they can get that side of things sorted or get the co-op feature released that would be great.

they should fix the terrible unoptimised code before going to console. who would buy the game on console though? any members of this webpage? consoles are better for simcade quick races and shiny 4k graphics on a 65inch tv. I really enjoyed the last console le mans game - Le Mans 24hours on Sega Dreamcast in 2001 (was also on ps2 and pc), but that was simcade quickrace fun.

LMU has the potential to be one of the best sims currently available (before AC Evo is released),
I believe financial issues are influencing its development in a different direction.

Discussing ‘Accelerate Efforts’ for Le Mans Ultimate Console Versions while the PC version is still in early access seems premature, or are we almost at the end of the road for early access?

Sales from the Nascar g1mes? Most probably the mobile phone game. Basically the plan is to use the extra money right now to launch these versions to get more money later to hopefully get enough to fix all versions. Yeah right, see U in 2 years MSG and LMU... Remember that the 2 last games this company has developed internally for consoles were Nascar Heat 5 (still broken after the last update coming with the last paid DLC) and Nascar Ignition (the game using rfactor2's physics engine).

If the company needs extra cash, I'm sure fixing NH5, which probably would not take more than a few days, would help selling the next gen DLC (around 10 euros). Many Nascar fans have been staying away from it because of the negative reviews. Especially because only a few months remain to get the game and the DLCs. A missed opportunity, which would also regain some trust from the customers.

I'd be interested to see how it ran on PS5. My computer is old and dying, and I really do love this game. I nice focused racing title, none of this "Jack of all trades, master of none" attitude.

The PC early access sales have most probably slow down, which is a regular phenomena (and maybe stronger with MSG involved) and rushing early access consoles versions should generate a lot of sales at first, for 2025. Just some figures make up for the shareholders, nothing to do with a well thought plan about the developments of the game.

Looking forward to the development on console, I am sure it is gonna run buttery smooth. At least gamepad support is ok, they got that sorted, now to the rest... *cough*
Oh my ! I did not expect to need popcorn so early today. :roflmao:

Funny though to consider that, while simcade, it was more of a game than LMU ever wishes to be today...
  • It had 10 tracks.
  • Included 25 unique car models split into 3 categories (40 skins total, without duplicates to represent different series...).
  • Several game modes - quick race (arcade depending your localisation), time trial, a championship mode and a local multiplayer.
  • Featured day night-cycle and a weather system.
  • It had a replay mode from day 1 (I mean there was no patch/DLC at that time...).
  • You could save your progress mid-session in the pits.
  • Did not crash...
And it was released in November 99 in Europe, 25 years ago in 3 months, just let that sink.

dlc, console release, and the game still has problems, no support for triple and vr
luckily I didn't buy it, I didn't trust MSG and they confirmed it...I hope they go bankrupt soon and get out of the way....
I think proper support for triples is there now. I just use Nvidia Surround for "improper" support but i think they actually added this.

But I doubt that is going to change your opinion to buying it and wishing MSG all the best :D

Well, we're kind of used to these kind of early access games on pc, but imagine the shitshow if console players get to enjoy the UI and the loading times of this game for example. I think s397 has a lot to do before they can even dream of console release.

This game is giving me more and more Nascar Heat vibes, actually uninstalled it because SP is way to buggy. They should optimize thing first, even should have before the dlc came out imho.

Sounds good, I hope it works well on console, it is a very large market. The concept fits well with console and could bring cash to S397 to help with the overall development of that game and possibly futur game.
To me, LMU is a clear upgrade to RF2, both on the user friendliness and driving pleasure, I hope they have more to come.
I realize others have had issues, but for me, LMU has I installed itself flawlessly, recognized my peripherals for what they are and as performed without drame since. The content feels accurate and look the part. In VR, it is going to be spectacular.

Very disappointing. They should finish the game first on PC. No mid session saves and no VR are deal breakers atm. I bought the Season Pass to support Studio 397 to further develop the game on PC and not to port the game to consoles.

These are phenomena, really ... it's amazing how easily they shoot themselves in the foot .... They have the same game still in EA on PC ... and these accelerate for console versions, which will then be nothing but even more EA ... and they also put paid DLC, in the EA phase ... Come on congratulations, I think no one else has done in the past what they are doing now ...

I have GT7 and considered ACC on PS5, problem?

I understand their idea and efforts also opportunity to make more money but I am afraid this can easily go to shambles. They are in beta stage and trying to fix issues even present in rFactor 2 and now thry expand this to consoles which will make fixing stuff even more difficult on two fronts.
