Motorsport Games Releases More Interesting Details on NASCAR 21

Developer Motorsport Games has provided more details on next NASCAR title, which will include a new physics engine, a new graphics engine, and further car customization.

George Holmquist of Motorsport Games recently provided details to IGN about their forthcoming NASCAR 21 title. Not only will the title benefit from Motorsport Games’ acquisition of Studio 397 and share a physics engine with rFactor 2, but also receive a bump in aesthetics thanks to the use of the Unreal graphics engine.

The famed rFactor 2 physics engine will undoubtedly provide Motorsport Games with a capable tool for delivering a pure racing simulation if they choose. How far they take those capabilities remains to be seen, however. Recent NASCAR Heat titles have skewed strongly toward more casual gamers, so it might be unrealistic to expect the next title to have every aspect of the rFactor 2 physics implemented. Check out our review of NASCAR Heat 5 to learn more about the current state of the series.

On the graphics front, the utilization of the Unreal Engine elicits a sense of cautious optimism. KartKraft and Assetto Corsa Competizione are both Unreal Engine based racing titles, and both have excellent graphics as a result. However, particularly in the case of ACC, the Unreal Engine is notably resource heavy for PCs. Some users even report that Competizione is unplayable in VR due to the limited frame rates their system can produce. We can hope that Motorsport Games finds ways of optimizing the title, including support for AMD’s FidelityFX system that many game studios are beginning to implement.

With those new graphics capabilities comes another feature that fans of the series have been asking for: a paint booth. Car customization has been a leading request from users, and Motorsport Games will oblige their fans this time around by allowing a greater level of paint customization.

Where this new NASCAR title lands on the spectrum of racing games and racing simulations lands won’t be known until release, but Motorsport Games seems to be heading in a more positive direction with these announcements. The date of the public release of this title isn’t yet known, but more details are expected to be announced in the coming months.

What are your expectations for the next NASCAR title? Do you think rFactor’s physics engine will redeem the driving experience? Was the choice to use the Unreal Engine the right one? Let us know in the comments below.

What a good news !!! Unity engine was a mess.....gonna be an instant buy :inlove:

Let's hope people get involved in this so we get a bit of multiplayer/league races going on.

Anything about VR yet ?

I stopped following Nascar after Jeff Gordon retirement....no much interest in this younger generation of drivers. No one give me a reason to watch Nascar again , yet

Do you have any proof of racism in NASCAR or just have a superiority complex?
The Confederate flag is still visible on TV broadcasts. People in the USA are allowed to be racist, that is a sad fact. So, if you do not see racism in NASCAR that is your personal right. Heck, here in the USA we even once had an orange tinted bigot as POTUS. Thoughts can not be policed, but thoughts can turn people off from a product, business or a person. Enjoy your day.

The confederate flag was literally banned at all NASCAR events Don't make up lies. And you're right. You are allowed to be racist. And you're also allowed to call racists every word in the dictionary. Not restricting thought, or as you said "allowing people to be racist" is what the free world was founded on. To suggest people cannot think any way they want is beyond idiotic. And hey hey hey, if you aren't someone worried about skin color, why are you worried about him being orange?

As boring as "turning left" sounds, I recently starting racing ovals in iRacing and it's actually some of the most fun I've had racing in years.
As a non-oval friend of mine put it -- "It's like chess at 200mph".

Definitely not for everyone, but I have high hopes for this one

What I don't understand is that there is still so much development and investments going on with the rF2 graphics engine and I think with the latest PBR updates and SSR rF2 is really looking good nowadays. I think it also works well in VR , when you compare it to the Unreal engine. So, why not make a game using not only the rF2 physics engine but also the rF2 graphics engine? Any improvements made in the future to that engine may benefit rF2, Nascar 21 and the also announced BTCC and Le Mans games.

If it’s as good as NR2003, I’ll be very interested. NASCAR is a lot more fun to simrace than to watch. it will all depend on their target market. If they want to sell it to console players, as I fear it is the case with the stock car crowd, than it could be a simcade like the F1 games.

Ah, interesting, so we have confirmation parts of rFactor 2 can be taken out and used in other sims. I was wondering if that was possible, I sort of had the idea it was monolithic spaghetti code, but I'm happy to see that's it not completely old school.

The upside for fans is that it means the physics, tyre model, and basically the good parts, can be paired with other modern subsystems, like a new graphics engine, or a new weather engine, a new sound engine, etc. If that can be done, then rF2 can certainly be resurrected as a proper modern sim.

It shouldn't be a surprise since MG wouldn't invest in rF2 if it wasn't like that but it's still good to know.

My prediction is that MG will develop the eye/ear candy on the other sims they've told us about and then eventually bring it all back and create an rFactor 3 or perhaps under a new name.

It's unfortunate but I wouldn't be surprised to see the name rFactor die with MG since it has a lot of negativity associated with it now.

Oh yeah, the first post already is a snow flake with their political BS cry that little to nothing have in relation with the news.. C'mmon, man, take a break, take some sun and have a bit of life outside the internet (twitter) bubble, a lot of people need desperately this today.

And is particularly funny that he finished their second statement being... (thriller drum sound) RACIST! LOL

But about the what REALLY MATTERS here:

Lets adress the reallity here too, the HEAT games are crap, Unity is a limited engine, producers made some questionable decisions like the scripted yellow flags (windvow vibes here). I gived up after the 4° game.

With the RF2 physics and Unreal graphics my only problem by now is with the hardware side. The ISI physics engine is know to be a hardware killer until today, specially in simulating the tyres physics, the Unreal for the other side, as anyone already noted in the ACC, is a video card killer... With both together I just can figure the minimum requirement being a I9 with a RTX 3080.

LOL

It could be the greatest looking and physics that match and still wouldn't waste a nickel on it.
Still think rFactor2 will be a distant second memory all too soon.

The same people say the same BS about American Football, which is 100 times more interesting than kicking a ball around and falling down every time somebody sneezes at you. Never mind the endless number of plays and play variations that one NEEDS to know when to use. Pay no attention to those people. They're as ignorant as ants.

Yeah sure, that's why it has so many commercial breaks during the game.
Let's face it, they had to put commercials otherwise nobody would watch it :)

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine
