After some minor delays getting approval from the manufacturer, the brand-new McLaren 720S GT3 EVO will be available on iRacing ahead of the start of the new season on September 10.

Announced to be included in the build of iRacing for 2024 Season 4, the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO had for a long time been a heavily-requested car to be added to the service. With the old MP4-12C GT3 having been getting on in years, it is a case of better late than never.

When the initial build dropped for the new season, all of the other content expected was added. This included the new BMW M4 GT4, a Mini Stock, the brand-new Cadwell Park and updated Spa and Zolder circuits. But the McLaren was nowhere to be seen, which had many iRacers concerned.

The delay occurred because McLaren had not signed off on approval, cutting it very close. But with iRacing coming out of maintenance, you can now go get the 720S for yourself.

Other Patch Notes

Along with the McLaren, there are a few further amendments to the sim that were not covered during the last maintenance. First is to iRacing's weather system - introduced in Season 2 earlier this year - with the telemetry output for current precipitation being updated to use the actual rainfall at start/finish.

Various cars have received a few fixes, including the new M4 which apparently did not let players change tyre compounds in fixed setup races. The same goes for tracks, as the new Cadwell Park model apparently had incorrectly labelled braking markers, and at the new build of Spa had some bumps that are not present in the real world.

Here is a run-down of all the patch notes:

NEW CAR!

The McLaren 720S GT3 EVO, a new Sports Car, is now available for purchase and racing!

Since 2019, the McLaren 720S GT3 has proven itself one of the world's most competitive GT3 platforms. That success only continued in 2023 with the introduction of the 720S GT3 EVO, which improved upon the car's aerodynamics, suspension, overall balance, and other key elements. The 720S GT3 EVO is a popular customer car the world over. After a long-standing association with the McLaren brand at both its automotive dealerships and in the GT4 class, Pfaff Motorsports brought the car to IMSA's GTD Pro class for the 2024 season for the first time. The team scored its first podium with the 720S GT3 EVO at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May, adding to the long history of McLaren GT3s running up front the world over.

Owners of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 at the time of this Patch deployment will receive iRacing Credits as compensation for the release of this newer version of the car. Compensation is based on how long ago a customer purchased the McLaren MP4-12C GT3, and is as follows:

0-90 days = 100% price compensation

91-180 days = 75% price compensation

181-365 days = 50% price compensation

Interested to know what the issue, hasn't it been in AMS2 and ACC for a while
McLaren get final sign off on the car on a game by game basis. All the developers of each game are going to make it different in terms of textures, sound, handling model, all these variables mean it isn't as easy as "this game has it no problem, why is it not so straightforward on this other game"

This is bang-on.

From personal experience, we sent iRacing the livery artwork months ago, and were told everything would be subject to McLaren's final approval.
