The iRacing 24 Hours of Le Mans were a staple on the Special Events calendar for years. However, you can still race it in 2024, just not as an official Special Event, on August 17 and 18.

Last held in 2020, the 24 Hours of Le Mans iRacing Special Event was a beloved mainstay on iRacing's yearly schedule. But since then, the event vanished due to the licencing agreement between Le Mans organisers ACO and Motorsport Games, who went on to create the dedicated sim title Le Mans Ultimate.

However, that does not mean that iRacing racers do not get the chance to compete in an official race that lasts a full day, and in the French countryside. In fact, this weekend is your chance.

All You Need to Know

Instead of being a dedicated Special Event, the event is part of a series called the Global Endurance Tour. This series traditionally has races of six hours in length for the majority of the year, but for Season 3 they up rounds to 24 hours in order to feature Le Mans.

To be able to participate, drivers need at least a Licence Class C and 4.0 Safety Rating for their Sports Car licence. Signups require a minimum of two drivers, so no solo driving no matter how tempted one may be.

In order to meet the minimum driving time, take the race length and divide it by the number of drivers within a team, then divide that number by four. So for example, a 24-hour race with two drivers means the minimum driver time would be three hours. Not meeting the minimum driver time for all drivers results in disqualification.

The Global Endurance Tour is the series you will have to search for on the iRacing UI.

This year's event will be the first since iRacing implemented the Tempest wet weather system, and all cars (GTP, LMP2 and GT3) in the race are wet weather enabled. However, rain appears to be unlikely, as according to the forecast, the highest chance for precipitation will occur about an hour into the race, and even then only being 13%.

For the majority of the race, rain looks like it is going nowhere near the track. Of course, the forecast could change so keep your eye on the weather tab whilst your teammates drive. The general rule being if the radar shows anything beyond a blue patch, wet weather tyres should be considered.

Here are all the cars that can be raced:

GTP
  • BMW M Hybrid V8
  • Cadillac V-Series.R GTP
  • Acura ARX-06 GTP
  • Porsche 963 GTP
LMP2
  • Dallara P217
GT3
  • BMW M4 GT3
  • Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO
  • Mercedes-AMG GT3 2020
  • Porsche 911 GT3 R (992)
  • Ferrari 296 GT3
  • Audi R8 LMS EVO II GT3
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R
  • Ford Mustang GT3

iRacing Le Mans 24 Hours 2024 Timeslots

The typical timeslots most people are used to in Special Events are not present here. Instead, there are three timeslots to sign up for, Saturday 7am UTC, Saturday 6pm UTC and Sunday 2pm UTC. The latter timeslot may not be one to consider for those based in Europe since the race will run into Monday and most people are probably back to work on Monday morning.

Organise accordingly with your teammates, and happy driving around the non-descript French countryside for a full day!

Any way to spectate? Are they doing a broadcast of the top split?
I did ask RaceSpot. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any intention of broadcasting what I would assume would be the top split of the Saturday evening timeslot.
