Gran Turismo Studio Creates Nissan Hyper Force Dash

The tagline “The Real Driving Simulator” has gotten a bit more real for Polyphony Digital again. The creators of the Gran Turismo franchise have teamed up with Nissan to design the dash of the Nissan Hyper Force concept car.

Unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the Nissan Hyper Force concept is a fully-electric vehicle. Do not let that fool you, though. Inspiration is clearly taken from the ever-popular GT-R models of the manufacturer. The Hyper Force looks like an even more aggressive and futuristic version of the car.

While the vehicle’s body already shows this philosophy, its interior takes things a step further. Designed by Polyphony Digital, the dash and interior lighting look like nothing else out there – modern would not do it justice.


Nissan Hyper Force: Polyphony-designed GUI​

Of course, a futuristic steering wheel – which is rather square than a proper wheel – and interior need a fitting user interface. This is where Polyphony came in. The Gran Turismo studio has created the GUI for the Nissan Hyper Force’s cockpit. It comes as no surprise that one of the driving modes is called GT as a result. In this case, it does not stand for the game series, but rather Grand Touring.

This more comfortable ride option can be switched to R (Racing, of course), to unlock more performance. With the switch, the color of the interior also changes. Meanwhile, the tire HUD to the left and right of the steering wheel strongly reminds us of similar gauges in racing games and simulations. The same goes for the lap timing display, including sector times.

As a result, a crossover into the digital world does not seem far-fetched whatsoever. In fact, Gran Turismo has a history with concept cars. The Vision GT program has brought numerous futuristic vehicles to the series since its launch in 2013. However, the approach was the other way around – the cars appeared in GT first. Then, the real-world concept cars followed.

Can Gran Turismo fans look forward to the Nissan Hyper Force, then? Considering the strong ties of the GT franchise and Nissan, the odds are favorable. And there should be no question that Polyphony would get the interior of the car absolutely spot-on. Plus, with a power output of 1,000kW (about 1,340 bhp), it would certainly be among the fastest cars in the game.

What's with road cars all slapping on these humongous, egregious, hideous diffusers and rear-wings? Obviously for racing, when all that matters is performance, is different but these are road cars, they're supposed to be beautiful, pretty, gorgeous works of art & design. Those stupid "fast & furious" spoilers look "cheap", look like they were just "bolted on" rather than created/designed as "one with the car" - as part of the car's body.

I saw a Lamborghini Aventador a few months back. It was the "normal" model, without all the little kid graphics and wings crap sticking out everywhere like a desperate scream for attention and, oh my goodness, did it look so much more "exotic" and beautiful than the "crazy", boy-racer looking top-end version.

Even Ferrari is getting worse with it (more-so with diffusers but, thank God, not with rear-wings).

Other than that, the exterior design of both cars is awesome (the 2020 red one even more, and it's rear-wing isn't as bad).
