Gran Turismo 7: Yamauchi Teases New Cars For Update 1.53

It is that time again when Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi teases us with an obscured image of the cars being added in the next update. So what new vehicles could be on their way for GT7 update 1.53?

Gran Turismo 7's latest update has been on the backburner for longer than the usual monthly period, but we now have somewhat of an idea as to what will be getting added - at least regarding cars. The community has been hard at work attempting to decipher the image posted by Polyphony Digital CEO and GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

There are some that appear to be quite easily figured out, but some are leaving the community stumped. So here are from what we are able to tell are the cars being added in the next GT7 update.


Ford Escort RS Cosworth​

The top right car is undoubtedly the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, with that simply iconic rear wing. The car was designed by Frank Stephenson, the very same who did the McLaren F1 and all their modern road-going supercars, the Ferrari F430, Maserati MC12 and even the likes of the new Fiat 500 and Mini.

The Escort was designed to the Group A rallying regulations in order to compete in the World Rally Championship, which it did between 1993 and 1998. As a result, the engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged Inline-4 which produced 224 horsepower, delivered to all four wheels. As a result, it would go from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and all the way to 144mph.

The Escort is truly a beloved car across the motoring space. Surprisingly, this will mark its first appearance in a Gran Turismo title, its rallying counterpart has been in the series before, but never the road car.

Ferrari Daytona SP3​

The next one we will guess is the front and centre car. Some people have guessed a Pagani Zonda or Porsche Mission X, and they could be correct, but we are throwing the the Ferrari Daytona SP3 in the ring, a car that we have seen already in a racing game courtesy of the Assetto Corsa EVO reveal trailer.

Built on the platform of a LaFerrari Aperta and powered by the same 6.5-litre 829 horsepower V12 as the 812 Superfast that revs to 9,500rpm, it goes from 0-60mph in 2.85 seconds and tops out at 211mph. With the upcoming F80 being powered by the same V6 as the Le Mans winning 499P, expect the Daytona SP3 to be the last naturally-aspirated V12 Ferrari ever, and what a note to end on!

As expected, the car has not been in a Gran Turismo game before so if it is being added, we cannot estimate a price. The LaFerrari costs 1,600,000 credits and the FXX-K is 3,600,000 so maybe expect it to be somewhere in the middle. Assuming it even is the Daytona SP3 that is getting added.

Mercedes W196​

When you think of Mercedes and winning Grand Prix World Championships, many of you will default to Lewis Hamilton becoming the first driver to win over 100 races. But he was not the first Mercedes driver to win the F1 title, that honour went to Juan Manuel Fangio in 1954.

After doing the first two races with Maserati, the Argentine driver jumped ship and led a 1-2 finish for the Silver Arrows in the W196. Fangio sealed two of his five championships in this car, which only failed to win three times in all 12 of its races.

From what we can tell, this version of the W196 is the 1955 model that was one of the only Grand Prix cars to not be open-wheeled. Considering its history, expect to find this in the Legends Cars dealership for quite a hefty price, maybe something like the Ferrari 250 GTO's 20,000,000 credits.

Suzuki Jimny Sierra​

From a legendary Grand Prix car to now being brought back down to earth with this SUV-style wagon. The Suzuki Jimny previously was added to GT7 in the form of the XC model as part of update 1.42, although that was more of a kei car than an SUV, with a small 660cc turbocharged Inline-3 producing 63 horsepower.

This version has a bit more to offer in the performance department, as its 1.5-litre Inline-4 engine produces 102 horsepower. Okay admittedly not that much more and probably not something anyone will be eager to try out but if the Jimny Cup appears in your Weekly Challenge races, you will need this new car.

The Jimny XC only costs 18,000 credits so it will be difficult to imagine that the Sierra version will cost that much more.

Porsche 911 Turbo S (992)​

Ending on a higher performance note, the final car from our best guesses is the current generation of 911's Turbo S model. With all the many types of 911 available, it may be tricky to keep up with it all. But the 992 Turbo S may be the fastest of the lot.

The car has hanging in the rear a 3.8-litre twinturbo Flat-6 engine, producing a massive 650 horsepower, all of which is put onto the road via all four wheels and an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. This results in incredible acceleration, 0-60mph takes only 2.7 seconds and it tops out at 205mph.

There is a 992 generation of 911 in Gran Turismo 7 already, the GT3 RS. That can be bought for 340,000 credits so expect the Turbo S to be in and around that ballpark in terms of price.
