Gran Turismo 7 updates tend to release on the last Thursday of every month, yet June has gone by without any word. Instead, update 1.49 is set to be revealed during the GT World Series season opener.

The 2024 Gran Turismo World Series will see the green flag on July 6, with both the Manufacturers Cup and Nations Cup competitions taking place on site in Montreal. In an attempt to drive more viewership, Polyphony will be tying in a number of in-game events to the GTWS season opener.

With no new Gran Turismo 7 update - which typically release every final Thursday of the month - having been announced thus far, the official social channels have instead teased that information pertaining to update 1.49 will be revealed during the broadcast.

What Could Be Revealed?

Only a couple of weeks ago on June 11, we talked about the possibility of Pikes Peak being added to GT7. This was in part due to Polyphony's newly-announced collaboration with Hyundai and their participation in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, as well as Polyphony Digital holding the licence to the event. The fact that there has been no new update released does point to the next update featuring a track, of which there has not been a new one added since late 2023.

In that instance, update 1.40 was released on November 2 and it featured seven cars and the fictional Lake Louise snow circuit. Therefore, all signs do seem to point to the idea that a new track could be added with update 1.49, but it may not be the Pikes Peak Hill Climb like we initially thought. Maybe then we can read into the host location of the GTWS opener.

Found by data miners, lines of code in GT7 indicate that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the home of the F1 Canadian Grand Prix, has been in the game's files since at least July 2023. So what more fitting track to reveal at an on-site event in Montreal than the very track present there?

As for cars? There is little in the way of clues as to what will be added in the update. With that being said, the Genesis brand at the Busan International Motor Show unveiled the X Gran Racer, a modified version of their X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept car. The X Gran Racer has a few visual changes compared to the original, and Genesis allege the power is up from 1,071 horsepower to 1,540.

Prizes For Watching

As always with each Gran Turismo World Series event, players can earn in-game prizes just by tuning into the broadcasts. Firstly, if you watch both streams through the in-game tab labelled 'Viewers Campaign', you can earn 6-Star Roulette Tickets. One specifically includes cars for watching the Manufacturers Cup, the other is just a general 6-Star Roulette Ticket for watching the Nations Cup.

It is not necessary to watch the streams live. As long as players have viewed the broadcasts before July 15, they can earn the prizes. They will be deposited on July 8 if the streams have been watched before that day. Additionally, players can earn up to 2,000,000 in-game credits if they can correctly predict the winners of the Manufacturers Cup and Nations Cup competitions.

Entries for both the Manufacturers Cup and Nations Cup 'Predict the Winners' campaign are open until the start of the Final. Therefore you do not have to take a wild guess and instead you can wait for the grids to be set before making your prediction.

The Manufacturers Cup broadcast will begin at 21:00 UTC on July 6, and the Nations Cup will follow at 23:30 UTC. Plus, the event will have different alternative language commentary teams for French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and finally German, where our own @Michel Wolk will be on the mic alongside 2013 GT Academy and 2015 12 Hours of Bathurst winner Florian Strauß.

I just want them to expand Sophy's range. It needs to be added to every track and we need to be able to create custom races with it. No other title in the sim racing world has AI like this and I'm sad that it's used so sparingly.
