Gran Turismo 7 Patch 1.50 Fixes Physics Issues

The launch of Gran Turismo 7's new driving physics with patch 1.49 did not quite go to plan, with cars bouncing and flying all over the place. Now, Polyphony have rolled out update 1.50 that seeks to rectify this.

As soon as the July update for Gran Turismo 7 launched (pun intended), many players began reporting very questionable behaviour with the cars. Some began hopping like lowriders, or bouncing like kangaroos and even committing to unauthorised moon launches.

In the majority of cases, this was primarily only happening with cars that had the engine swapped, and also had extreme suspension setting changes to set the cars up for drifting. In any case, it made for some hilarious videos on Twitter.

Thankfully for the players who wanted it fixed and unfortunately for those entertained by the launches, Polyphony have released update 1.50 which looks to address all these issues. In the update details page on the official Gran Turismo website, it states: "Improvements to an issue where cars leap into the air if certain values are applied in specific settings." And that is it for the patch notes.

Accordingly, the update is not too large at about 250 megabytes on PlayStation 4 and just under 400 on PlayStation 5. Unsurprisingly, it does not come with any new content. As for when one can expect the next batch of cars, we may hear about it during the broadcast for the next round of the GT World Series in Prague on 10 August.

In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about the physics changes and some of the chaos that ensued before this patch, our own @Emily Jones has you covered with the video embedded below.

30 minutes updating for 1 change. I was hoping that it would be a big surprise update filled with many things when it came up

Aside from the flying cars, which isn't good, Polyphony Digital improved the physics and tire modeling to more accurately reflect grip on individual wheels, which is far more realistic than it was. I think 1.49 and now the corrected 1.50 is a huge step forward in realism.
