Funselektor's new game is launchin soon: The creators of art of rally are working on Golden Lap - the charming manager game will release on Steam on September 26.

Fans of casual racing games are familiar with Funselektor via art of rally and Absolute Drift, both of which prioritize going sideways in their own unique way. The latest project of the studio is less about driving, though, instead focusing on managing a 1970s fictionalized Formula One team. That is what Golden Lap is all about.

Now, the charming title has a release date: It is set to launch on Steam on September 26. Instead of trying to replicate what managing an F1 team would be like down to the finest detail, Golden Lap takes a more relaxed approach with lots of tongue-in-cheek humor via driver attributes such as "Jerk" or driver ratings being impacted by them being out partying the night before the race - classic 70s racer, we'd say.

This also extends to the fictionalized tracks that any racing fan will probably recognize the real version of. Circuits like Muttonchop or Circuit de Casino even have their own corner names - nice little details that create a charming feel.

We already tried a preview version of Golden Lap back in June - check the article for more detailed first impressions! We are also looking forward to diving into a review version of the game soon.

I´ve been playtesting Golden Laps and enjoyed it pretty much.
I´m looking foreward to buy it.

This game is awkward. It's not too bad but...

F1 with multiple tyre compounds, intermediate tyres, crazy pit stop strategies, FCY...

But every time you do 4 races, someone will die and someone will be injured and miss a race. So... you should feel like you are in the 70's right?

They should make up their minds about what they were looking for before getting a green light to develop this.

I could be interested if it made more sense.

Can't believe they stopped working on Art of Rally for this...

I think this pretty much represents my sentiments towards what this title has become...

The idea in a vacuum is great, for 1995...

I'd much rather the engineer experience be upgraded like what's happening in Endurance Motorsports Series...

Out of everything released, or due to be released, this year, this is the one that I'm actually most looking forward too. I'm a great fan of Mini Metro and Mini Motorways and this seems to be a motorsport strategy game in similar style.

Personally I really like the art/graphic style of these kinds of games - simple, informative, and effective at prioritising the gameplay elements over anything else, which of course is the most important aspect of a game. In fact if anybody ever did a race engineer/strategist type game with a plain Motec style interface I'd be first in the queue for it. Sometimes what you need is clear, direct and to the point visual communication, not flashy eye candy distracting you from actually playing the game.

My SSD is littered with driving sims, all of which do pretty much the same thing, albeit with minor differences, and most of them are gathering the digital equivalent of dust - one reason I'm not really bothered about AC Evo (which I think will end up initially disappointing many, but that's for another discussion). In contrast Golden Lap seems to be a fresh take on an existing genre, in the same vein as Funselektor's other titles.

If you can't play a game without wringing your grahpics card's neck then you have my sympathies, as you're missing out on hell of a lot.
