Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance: Trying The Spa-Exclusive Hardware

Fanatec announced a limited edition of its brand-new Clubsport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance to be on sale at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps only. Naturally, we had to go and grab one - here's how it holds up.

The lengths sim racers go for new hardware... Both @Rene / GRunner and I took the opportunity to head to Spa-Francorchamps on Thursday. Fanatec had announced a new wheel rim two days prior, to be sold exclusively at the 24 Hours of Spa for now. The Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance would be limited to 100 units.

So, we went to the Fan Zone at the bottom of the legendary Eau Rouge/Raidillon combination, where Fanatec opened its doors a little late, and there was already a small crowd of people waiting to be among the first to own a ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance. The Fanatec staff were a little surprised by the rush, as they had expected the 100 units to be sold gradually over the weekend. As there were also minor problems with the ordering system, the first 40 or 50 people had to be patient.

After less than an hour we had our rim in our hands for the price of €129.95. If you compare the other Fanatec rims on sale, this one is basically in line, and you also have the machined holes and, of course, the background of the celebration of 100 years of Spa 24 Hours. Fanatec will also be launching regular sales of this rim later this year. I have also seen a few 3rd party options on the internet that also offer such Podium Button Module Endurance Addons, for example MZW.

But for now, let's see what the feel and ergonomics of the new GT3 rim are and if the trip to Spa was worth it.

Compared to the Formula V2.5X, the Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance is a good bit bigger.

Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance Hands-on

First of all, I was very happy that my early arrival was rewarded by the friendly staff with my preferred number, 23 out of 100. Unfortunately, René was less lucky, his 28 was already gone. Who is the winner now?

The rim has a diameter of 318 mm or 12.5 inches, which is comparable to the Porsche Cup steering wheel. Compared to the Fanatec Formula Wheel or the Sparco Formula Rim with 270 mm, it is also laid out differently. The steering wheel feels really good in your hand, it is a little thicker and the feel of the rubber grips is perfect with or without gloves.

The biggest advantage of these Formula-style wheels on my setup is that the rim no longer covers the bottom of the screen, making it easier to read information from the in-game wheel or HUD. The only thing I find a bit unfortunate is that the rim naturally covers the entire button module, as I actually like the motorsport feel that its surface creates. Even if it takes a few minutes to change the wheel rim, the advantage is that the button assignment stays the same, which would not be the case with an entirely separate wheel.

I think the modularity and quality of the Button Module Endurance is really good, and it's also PlayStation and Xbox ready if you use it with a compatible wheelbase. But, of course, it is not cheap. If I add up the Podium Hub, the Advanced Paddle Module, the Button Module, the QR2 Pro Quick Release and the rim, I come up with a total of €860. If you choose the basic magnetic paddles and the standard QR2, you can save €180, but that is still a lot of money to buy other cool wheels.

I am still happy with my choice, as I had a good day at a sunny Spa-Francorchamps that I always think about when I look at my steering wheel, so it was worth it for me. Fanatec as a company is going through wild times at the moment, being in the process of restructuring with the intention of Corsair to buy the parent company Endor AG. We are curious to see what will happen next.

Connected to this, it would be interesting to hear in the comments if you have had any recent orders or warranty cases with Fanatec and how that went. Thanks for reading and have fun watching the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Spa if you plan to.

Would you consider getting the Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance if you own a Podium Button Module Endurance already - or even as a completely new wheel? Let us know on Twitter @OverTake_gg or in the comments below!

Gz you got one, Michel. Thx for your impressions.
But as a long term Fanatec customer I'm very disappointed. I don't like the design and the price is absolutly weired for the complete package. If they would offer a open GT3 wheel like a McLaren 720s or similar I would buy it instant. There are so many people out there with the same wish but the blind marketing department doesn't get it. Bad job Fanatec!

Sad, but expected.
I have everything from Fanatec since years.
DD1, BMW GT2 V2, MCLaren GT3, Formula V2, Shifter. Only my pedals are Heusinkveld, because Fanatec has not updated their higher end pedal lineup since ages.
At the moment they have absolutely nothing, that makes me open my pockets and give them money.

What is the Audi rim in your video? i've searched Google but don't see it. All my gear, except my rig is Fanatec, but I haven't bought anything directly from them in years.

Perhaps that's because you've already bought everything from them that's relevant to you.

Honestly, just by looking at this rim the button placement and the ergonomics is an abomination. They tried to adapt a Porsche button box for a D shaped wheel to a GT3 style rim. If you look at the end result and compare it with any of the real GT3 wheels (button placements around your thumbs) I can't help but wonder who in the right mind would actually consider this ergonomically viable. Unless you don't need any buttons while driving. But then why would you even consider this in the first place?

So, even just getting the hub and the cheapest QR this is going to cost more than the cheaper and superior Simagic GT Neo? LOL
And adding all the premium parts it is going to cost 860 euro??? You can get two Simagic wheels with that money and in some combos even keep spare money, for easily higher quality.
Or a single high end full wheel from quality brands.

Ludicrous and laughable product.

I try not to be too negative but this product really feels lazy for a 100th aniversary special for an event
Basically fanatec have made the same flat plate with handles that loads of small companies make for logitech and thrustmaster?
I mean they're a good budget mod but not really what I'd expect for somethign branded as a special addition.
I could have made something nicer than that (and have)
