As the 2024 Formula One season starts to reach its final stages with the championship fight still not quite decided, F1 24 has been hit with its latest update, v1.14. This update has added several graphical changes and brand-new scenarios for players to enjoy.

Alongside this new update, a new season within F1 24 is due to start on November 13, with the v1.14 update. In total, three new race scenarios await, as well as a new Pro Challenge and Challenge Career scenario, respectively.

Season 4 - Champions Legacy - From November 13

Pro Challenge:
- Oscar Piastri (Nov 13 - Jan 6)

Challenge Career:
- Lewis Hamilton (Nov 13 - Jan 6

Race Scenarios:
- 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (Dec 2 - Jan 6)
- 2022 Belgian Grand Prix (Dec 10 - Jan 6)
- 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix (Dec 10 - Jan 6)

With the amount of animosity between the Lewis Hamilton fans and the Max Verstappen fans that is still around in 2024, putting the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix into the game as a scenario is a very brave choice. While it might be a popular choice for a scenario, reigniting the fight between the Hamilton and Verstappen fans could throw sparks.

Visual Improvements

Updates for trackside elements to bring better quality reflections and a more realistic appearance.

All game modes and platforms have benefited from updates to materials used for trackside elements such as sponsor boards, fences, panels, concrete barriers, and lights, with additional tweaks to shaders. These updates offer better quality reflections and a more realistic appearance overall but are especially noticeable on metallic textures and during wet conditions.
  • Updates to the Las Vegas environment, including real-world hotel branding and the animated Sphere for PC, PS5®, and Xbox Series Consoles
Iconic real-world Las Vegas hotels and casinos such as Caesars Palace and the MGM Grand have been represented in this update, replacing some of the fictional names on buildings around the street circuit. Additionally, Sphere now features a set of animations, similar to what you would expect to see on the real thing.
  • Improved Ray Tracing to generate cleaner images from the simulated light in real-time (PC, PS5®, and Xbox Series only)
We have updated the denoiser (a crucial set of algorithms used in Ray Tracing) to generate cleaner images from the simulated light in real time. This allows things such as vehicle halos to be seen reflected on car bodywork, or glass on the start/finish straight at Albert Park to reflect their surroundings more accurately and with more clarity.
  • Improved the visual quality of spray from tyres in wet weather
At times, spray coming off tyres in wet conditions would look blocky and low resolution. This update aims to improve the effect of this spray, ultimately improving the look of wet weather conditions.
  • Reduced the amount of smoke generated by wheel spins and lockups in multiplayer sessions to prevent visibility issues
Depending on the circumstances, excessive smoke could be produced in situations where lots of cars are on the same stretch of track, such as during race starts. This update aims to reduce the time that tyre smoke stays around, improving visibility for those driving through it.
  • Minor visual improvements to a variety of F1 vehicle textures
  • Improvements to a variety of F2™ 2024 vehicle liveries and suits

F1 24, whilst it does have its flaws, has had some good updates in this year's games cycle - although priorities do not seem to align with those of players, as the reaction to the announcement that invisible bumps would not be fixed in F1 24 showed. These new scenarios are good and contain relevant and interesting tasks and challenges. However, as stated when the game was first released, it just feels a bit odd to complete them with the 2024 cars.

The main focus of the update appears to be the game's visuals, with several improvements to its ray tracing listed in the changelog. Furthermore, support for AMD FSR 3 has been added - the upscaling and frame generation technology is suported by AMD GPUs and, interestingly, NVIDIA graphics cars as well. AMD recommends a Radeon RX 5000 series or a GeForce RTX 20 series GPU as a minimum to use both upscaling and frame generation, and a Radeon RX590 or GeForce GTX 10 series or above for upscaling only.

Bug Fixes

Career

  • Fixed an issue where there would sometimes be a long pause before the Engineer tutorial played in the first session of a My Team Career

Audio

  • Fixed an issue which was causing some F2™ 2024 drivers to not be read out during the Grid Rundown sequence

Tracks

  • Track Acclimatisation Practice Programme at Las Vegas now has DRS Activation points in the correct positions
  • At Brazil, AI vehicles will now position themselves closer to the front of their grid slots after a formation lap

Miscellaneous

  • Option added to create a badge with just an Emblem and no background
  • Fixed an issue where retrying a Practice Programme would cause the UDP data to become corrupted
  • Added support for AMD FSR 3 on PC
  • Various UI Improvements
The development team will continue to refine the game based on the feedback shared by the community.

let 's be honnest, we don't care about these visual improvements, we want the LMU tyre model and FFB ;), but this game is very fun for a full modern F1 offline experience for me..

Personally speaking I would say that putting the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix scenario into the game is less about bravery and more about being completely distasteful. Why bring that day up again? Who want's to relive that? What good does Codies / EA think that scenario brings to F1 and therefore F1'24?

I boycotted this years iteration as it brought nothing better than '23 and was semi-broken at launch, but I think I'll refrain from a deep sale of '24 now just because they clearly don't have any true regard of what F1 (and motor racing) should be about as a sport.

I agree. I have not bought an F1 game since EA bought F1 2021. They seem to think controversy is exciting and will sell more games. I prefer to race and leave the drama for TV.

I skipped '21 but have '22 which I didn't think much of, but to me '23 is easily the closest they've even gotten to it being an (almost) sim and it's great fun to drive, especially in VR - so I do recommend it, obviously skipping all that drama stuff as you say and just stick to custom race weekends.

So as to not be negative all the time (like I can be) I'll say that it's good to see the devs still supporting and improving '24, and it may even be an ok game by now. Hopefully next year they'll learn from their mistakes and release a functional and flawless title right off the starting line. In immediate hindsight, maybe that last part was way too optimistic.

Agree that 23 is the best , specially for VR users.
