What the SnowRunner development team did next… Expeditions is set to be Saber Interactive’s most ambitious off-road driving game yet.

Following the success of MudRunner and SnowRunner – over 12 million players for the latter – the development team took the bold decision to not create a direct sequel, but instead something slightly different.
To that extent, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game sees you driving, for the most part, smaller, modified, off-road vehicles. Instead of the transportation fetch-quest mission structure seen in the 2020 heavy-duty truck game, the elements are your greatest adversary as you try to complete scientific research.
To do so, your vehicles are equipped with gadgets such as drones and metal detectors, all of which can be upgraded back at the base alongside a team of experts – up to six personnel from a choice of 16. The off-road driving experience is about scouting the correct route and then taking it carefully to avoid getting stuck or falling off a ravine.
There will be four regions, each broken down into two main biomes around 4 km2 in size. Helping you get out of any trouble you can now inflate or deflate tyres at any time, and alongside a winch there’s a new anchor tool.
At launch, there are set to be over 80 expeditions – the creation team’s parlance for missions – and around 15 different vehicles.
There will be, at the very least, a ‘Year 1 Pass’ with new content spread out across the 12 months until March 2025. The cadence of when these drops land for players is not yet clear. This will be available separately, the price is yet to be confirmed, or as part of a ‘Year 1 Edition’.
Those who pre-order this version also receive the Cotco Canyon 4×4 plus four days of early access from 1st March. Pre-ordering the standard edition provides The Great Don 71 three-door SUV.
Finally, there is the top-of-the-range Supreme Edition which includes the ‘Pioneer Pack’ with ‘alternative versions’ of four vehicles. Below is a break-down of the different editions:
