EA Sports WRC 24 receives another 2024 update, bringing a small array of changes and fixes alongside the addition of the visual-only damage model, alongside some onboarding additions to help new players get stuck into the world of WRC.
After the announcement that EA Sports WRC 24 will debut on EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, EA has made some changes to its headlining rally title in preparation for a new influx of players.
One significant change players will notice, especially in longer rallies, is that tyres will not puncture. They will still wear though, so expect a slow drop off of grip, but players will not receive Terminal Damage notifications from crashes or entering unrecoverable zones on stages.
Whether or not this only implies the absence of mechanical damage and its effects or rather just cosmetic damage that does not have any consequences except for a bruised ego remains to be seen, as this is not clarified in the announcement.
The new slider for visual damage.
One slightly unnecessary change to the damage model is renaming hardcore damage as 'Damage Difficulty'—an change that adds nothing apart from potential for confusion with those who have been playing for a while already.
Once they progress past this screen, players can freely customise their assists and settings. New players, like the new players from EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, will also be taken to the Rally School before they start their rally journey.
The new Play Experience options
Throughout 2024, EA Sports WRC has had plenty of highs but also several lows. It is good to see that EA Sports is still supporting the title and giving it another update before 2024 comes to a close. Whilst not extensive, adding the new damage model adjustment and the changes for new players is a great way to end the year, especially with the game undoubtedly being on some people's Christmas lists.
