Did you know that DTM went to China in the late 2000's and early 2010's? Shanghai's often-overlooked street circuit finally comes to Assetto Corsa through mod creator @shin956

The circuit has two different layouts. The original layout was used in a non-championship race in 2004, and the modern layout debuted on the DTM calendar in 2010. It is a fast and tight street circuit that proved difficult to overtake in the short amount of time it saw action.

DTM's history in Shanghai

China's DTM street circuit is located in Pudong, Shanghai, but it has not been on the DTM calendar for a long time. However, it did crown Paul Di Resta the DTM drivers champion in 2010 for his HWA team, therefore making sure the circuit will live on in the history books regardless of its short stay.

On July 18, 2004, the 2.8 km track hosted a non-championship Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race, which Gary Paffett for Mercedes-AMG eventually won with little competition.

Six years later, on October 31st, 2010, the bosses behind DTM controversially featured a season finale on a shortened 2.4km version of the street circuit. Returning to form in China, Gary Paffett won the season finale after it was rescheduled to November 28th, 2010. It was not to be Paffett's year, with his HWA teammate, Paul di Resta, claiming the driver's title.

Originally a track made for Race 07, this conversion is an excellent example of the quality possible when converting circuits between titles. The track is the 2010 variant, which is ideal for most touring car series and smaller GT cars.

There is a fantastic amount of Touring car mods available to download for free right here on OverTake. Shanghai's street circuit could have been an excellent venue for the WTCR or the Chinese TCR series. Create your own scenarios and imaginative races with Assetto Corsa to give this track the racing it deserves.

The 2010 layout wasn't too bad. It was short and sweet, with only 7 tuns in the 1.532-mile lap, so not overcrowded on that front. It had 1 good run and 2 other decent straights. The only narrow bit was from the exit of T5 to the exit of T7.

The start procedure didn't exactly help the racing, with everyon rolling through single-file, and kind of spread out when the green came.

It certainly seems like it should have decent scope for racing, so I tend to put the 2010 race down to that start and the nature of the cars.

The main thing I recall about the 2004 race was that Bernd Maylander hit a manhole cover.
