Developer Saber Interactive will no longer release Dakar Desert Rally patches, as the studio stated just days after the release of the title’s latest DLC.

After a few delays, Saber Interactive finally fulfilled the Dakar Desert Rally roadmap with the release of the USA Tour DLC. This final pack of additional content launched on January 15, including an enormous new map, new stages and treasures. Furthermore, the update included some bug fixes.

Not even two days later, it emerged that no further Dakar Desert Rally patches would be deployed. No more updates, no more fixes for problems that players still encounter. Interestingly, this was not done via an announcement, but rather several answers by Saber Support to Twitter and Reddit threads.

No More Dakar Desert Rally Patches To Come?

Even though the reply embedded above does not fully rule out any more updates, players are understandably not happy with the situation. Saber has not given a reason for this decision yet, either. OverTake/RaceDepartment has reached out and requested a statement on it from Saber Interactive, but at the time of writing this article, we have not received a reply yet.

Dakar Desert Rally originally launched in October 2022. Could the discontinuation of support for the title hint at a successor? It is certainly possible. However, the Dakar game franchise might also not be part of future plans for Saber Interactive, which is part of Embracer Group. Studio and Game Director Paulo Gomes left Saber in September of 2023 to form his own company Paulo Games Productions.

Garbage, unplayable honestly with how terrible the UI is, playing in cockpit view you CANNOT SEE WHERE YOU GO for a few seconds when you hit a checkpoint. And the ear-bleeding beep noise is extremely loud and obnoxious, especially with how you often hit several dozens of them per event.

AI in professional mode is bunched up instead of having realistic distances, and they never fixed it.

Put it on the list of "oh man, great potential - but what a waste".

When they got together with Mud Runner and Snow Runner, I had huge hopes for the physics as well.

From what I read there, there is just no plan to further updates but the list of bugs will be submit to the dev team and maybe something will be done. It is not over but it seems the deal between both companies doesn't cover bugs fixes anymore ; it's the dev responsability and conscience now.

I couldn't get past the opening training stage lucky they opened up the game a bit more since then (free roam etc)

I think it was better when sims only had 1 or 2 patches.
No one epected all issues to be fixed you just made the best of it.
People so spoiled these days.

Another problematic game, again the Unreal Engine curse that escapes everyone's notice.

Understand now, a game made with Unreal Engine won't do anything good. (It is very very rare)

Almost all games with performance problems and broken ones contain Unreal Engine garbage.

And of course this game was made with Unreal Engine garbage.

nice game from ue4 engine...lol...ue5 is too very well made...lol..no buy if ue4 or ue5.!LOL

my honest opinion of it since Dakar 18 was decent, yet DDR... ( oh dear god is that the acronyyyymmmmm?!?!!?) is a hot slop mess...
Yes it has Multi-car races but ...
NO FULL MAP like in D18 unless you play it in simulation WITH A FREAKIN SPEED LIMIT?!!?!?!?
THAT'S [bovine droppings] I'm sorry in my book that's "Babysitter mode" where all rookies are treated like rookies and Hardcore are treated like dumbasses... Waste of $60 pre-ord...

I DID NOT DESERVE THIS!! WE DESERVED BETTER!! THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS MOTORSPORT GAMES... DAKAR COMMISSION PLEASE GIVE THIS GAME TO SOMEBODY COMPETENT !!!
I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH SABER PORTO(POTTY) AGAIN!!!

Sad if there are no more patches. Cause Usa-expansion is totally undriveble in PS5-version, horrible fps/dia show, controller feedback is broken etc etc. Before update/lately base game& Arabia map was already ok and for most part good enough. Don't know what went wrong with new map.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
