Corsair Sim Racing Rig Debuts At gamescom, Set For Q4 2024 Launch

After announcing their first sim racing rig, Corsair has now shown the hardware for the first time at gamescom 2024.

The Corsair brand is known throughout PC gaming for their high performance gear, but in recent times it would appear they are branching into sim racing. Sim racers probably know it best for another reason, though - the company was a front runner for acquiring Endor and its sim racing hardware brand Fanatec until Endor filed for insolvency. Corsair is still interested in Endor, however.

Already in June, Corsair had announced its own sim racing rig. At gamescom, the cockpit was ready for sim racers to try in various different configurations, including with a set of brand new Corsair OLED 21:9 screens. Interestingly, all of the rigs were exclusively equipped with Fanatec hardware, and Corsair also showcased some Fanatec gear at its booth.

Corsair Sim Rig​

Corsair's sim rig cockpit product is constructed of a 50mm steel tubing and the ability to adjust driving positions for anyone between 5'0" (1.55m) to 6'6" (1.98m). Plus additional optional accessories can be accounted for such as a tray for your PC or console, plus mounts for a direct drive wheel, a shifter, inverted pedals, stream decks, lights and cameras.

The entry level rig comes with a mount for a single monitor that can range from 27 inches up to a 49 inch ultrawide screen. But that can be upgraded to accommodate screens up to 65 inches, plus an additional mount that can put a screen of up to 34 inches above the other monitor. Then for those who prefer a triple screen setup, a mount that supports such a setup with screens ranging from 27 to 55 inches plus an additional overhead monitor.

Prices are set to begin at $799, but keep in mind that does not include a wheel or a seat. For an additional $200, a seat will be included with the rig itself, but if you already have a seat, the rig is engineered to accept third party seats with a standard 290mm bolt hole mounting pattern.

First Impressions​

Our own @Yannik Haustein got to try the yet-to-be-named rig in Cologne and reported no flex to speak of. Possibly the biggest strenght of the rig is that no tools are needed for adjustments once it is set up - small levers that work like a ratchet replace the need for allen keys and the like, making adjustments to angles, mounting heights and more much easier.

Add-on rails for the rig come with T-slots like you would find on regular aluminium extrusion rigs, meaning sim racers can mount button boxes, handbrakes, shifters and the like in a more flexible compared to other rigs with a similar overall design.

The rig itself does have quite a large footprint, however, so keep this in mind if you are thinking about adding it to your setup. Corsair are aiming for a Q4 2024 launch of the cockpit.

Since it's as ugly as every other sim rig, but locks down modifications due to not being a simple adjustable profile rig, the price is a head scratcher. Seems incredibly wrong to price an entry level rig for 800 bucks without the seat. That would be... twice as much as other similar products?
 
Looking at all those space-absorbing ugly fixed rigs - and here, where you try to save it with a slightly cold design over functionality - I'm just even happier for my spontaneous acquisition of my robust multi-purpose near endless DOF flexible €250 NLR F-GT Lite rig, which I can just pack up in the wardrobe after use and is somewhat more functional and robust than the other somewhat simpler "beach chairs" on the market for flexibility.
When you just spend an extra 2 minutes checking and tightening all the joints, there's no issues in fitting stronger DD wheels under max FFB torque, just as the rig feels much more robust than the max 130kg they are limited to, and not least the functionality with bracket holes options on both sidea for carios plates leaving feasability for double H-gear/handbrake and button box/mini keyboard/whatever, of which is flexible regardless of whether you are in go-kart position closest to the floor in one of the other 5-6 positions (in reality near endless DOFs - even when my daughter was 5yo it was piece of cake to fit to her size by then) up to full trucker upright position.

And I think it's a rather more elegant design than the static colossus here, which has sat between two chairs.

Today, I could never think of acquiring such a large rigid crumb to take up space.

Sorry for being being a bit rude here. But this is one of the more horrendous things I've seen. In that case I'll prefer a DIY solution where you have splinters all over your body when you leave the seat again.

$799 for unfinished clumsy rigid work versus my €250 all-in-one finished multi-purpose flexible and robust solution of which looks both more elegant and of which I can always hide in the closet, leaving free space, there really is no comparison to me.

Corsair, concentrate on what you are good at - I like you pretty much for that.
The other way around you just spoil your brand.

I've owned a Corsair computer case and definitely like their Power Supplies, but this seems like a feeble first attempt to create something in a market that they know nothing about.

There is a rather obvious computer case heritage showing, it just doesn't serve any purpose.

That said they do have some resources and they may learn a lot when this doesn't sell well and maybe their next attempt won't be a complete waste.

No apologies here. They need to learn from this mistake and move on with something better.

Man, that thing is something. Not sure what, but its something alright.

I guess it looks good for maybe a kids room or something but why would you spend so much on so little? I cant believe its so expensive.
 
From the top of my head, I paid around 600€ for a Sim-Lab GT1-EVO in 2021
WITH A SEAT !
And so many places for accessories and imagination !
The GT1-EVO coming with a seat for a total price of 600€ sounds like quite a sales bargain.
Before my splurge on buying my aforementioned foldable NLR F-GT Lite rig, I strongly considered a variant of the GT1-EVO, but collecting what I wanted, my box ended up in well above 1000€, by then my choice was easy for 1/4 the price and the need to hide away my rig after sim time.

Is that not Corsair willing to take over Fanatec still?

I feel for you guys loyal to Fanatec products because if that’s an indication of future offering with wheelbase and stuff then no thanks……

I have owned the Fanatec Rennsport Cockpit, which was a pretty similar design. Bought it because it had a "wife friendly" design. But only a few minutes after it was assembled, I regretting buying it. It was absolutely not possible to adjust anything, at all. Everything - seat, monitor, pedals, gear shifter, steering wheel - they all fit in pretty much one place, and one place only. So at that price point (I think it cost €999, without a seat), I was vastly disappointed. I now have an aluminium profile based rig, and I'm laughing all the way home.

I still have my Fanatec DD base, pedals and gear shifter though. They are all excellent.
 
Speaking frankly, I think that might be a good thing for some given the amount of rigs I've seen that look more akin to the bridge of the starship Enterprise than anything resembling an actual car.
I agree. I'm not a fan of setups having 5 gear indicators around the room at any one time to remind you of what gear you are in, including the steering wheel dash and 2 static dashes to supplement the 4th monitor giving a full pit wall of information. It's a bit immersion breaking for me, I feel like the hardware should either be correct, or unobtrusive and as invisible as practical. Sometimes you can't help if you can't set up everything and be perfect for every different car you drive like some people have those study level flight sims for one aircraft, everything is a compromise.

I do like my profile rig though, the adjustability is useful.

It looks like they have tried to make it look a bit GT3 car roll cage like with the thick white round tube and put some infill panels and bits and pieces in for a bit of a substantial feeling. I wouldn't want it in my house, but I don't think it makes much sense for them to make yet another aluminium profile rig that's more or less the same as everyone else's and try and fight on price and see who can have the thinnest margins.

For what it's worth, there is also a black version they got at the event - that just didn't find its way into our photos for the article. We'll have a video out soon where it should be visible, though :)

There is indeed! Same thing as the white one, just in black. Personally, I would opt for that as well if given the choice, it just looks nicer in my opinion :D

Someone pointed out that this is likely a replacement for the RennSport Cockpit, which is a $1000 frame. So at least this is less expensive. It was also pointed out that the people buying these tend to be newbies who don't know any better and are buying this with the controls and see it as a way to one stop shop.

Given the huge range of options out there, I could see someone being overwhelmed and just trying to put together a Christmas present in the easiest way possible.
