The OverTake British GT4 League in Assetto Corsa Competizione approaches its halfway mark: Round 3 takes place at Oulton Park tonight, following a tricky time for many at Donington in round 2.
Our Racing Club's trek through the United Kingdom continues at Oulton Park - a classic, but a tricky circuit to master with its elevation changes, late apexes and bumps that need constant attention. Donington, the previous round's venue, is a bit different from that, but that does not mean it was an easier time on track last week.
Instead, the random weather did its best to re-shuffle the deck of cards come race day. After being in contention for the win in round 1 at Silverstone, @MichaelT28 did not set a qualifying time at Donington and started at the back of the pack, but that did not deter them and their Ginetta from waltzing through the field and ending up on the top step of the podium regardless.
At first, it seemed like tire strategy gambles could pay off early, as light rain fell before the green flag flew. While most drivers opted to stay on slicks on a moist track, some decided to start on wets, assuming that the rain would soon become heavier. It did not.
As a result, a few pit stops had to be taken early to exchange a set of overheating wets for brand-new slicks, getting that mandatory tire stop out of the way after just a couple of laps. This meant a few cars had some catching up to do, which led to interesting battles throghout - and some even to the line, such as the one for P8 between @Jordan64011 and yours truly.
At the front, @RedLMR56 did his best keep his early lead, but once @MichaelT28 had advanced to the sharp end of the grid, this became a rather difficult endeavour - which, in the end, still resulted in a strong second-place finish. The final podium spot went to @RicardoJorge92.
