Sim Formula Europe 2025 is not far off anymore, and the Maastricht-based event dives straight into 2025 with a revolutionary competition concept – find out who the pro drivers are you could go up against here!

Once again, the sim racing year is in for an exciting early start: From January 16 to 19, Sim Formula Europe 2025 opens its doors at MECC Maastricht alongside InterClassics, making it the first sim racing exhibition of the year to check out new hardware, meet sim racing friends and possibly even compete against professional esports racers for your shot at a €10,000 prize pool.

While this might seem like a daunting proposition, the playing field will be completely level like never before: Practice will be impossible for anyone, as the competition will be run on a platform that is not available to anyone yet, and the car and track combination will only be revealed once the competition gets underway.

The grid will be split: Eight pros face off against eight sim racers who qualify on-site – and one of them could be you! The open spots are for community drivers who are not contracted to a team or have taken part in major events yet.

In October, we ran a poll to find out which teams’ drivers you would like to see compete in Maastricht, and we are happy to share who will be in the seats at Sim Formula Europe 2025 – with one exception.

Jernej.jpg

Jernej Simončič (RAFA Racing Club)

The reigning champion will be on the grid again: Jernej won the Sim Formula Europe 2024 competition in rFactor 2. The Slovenian is also a four-time Formula Sim Racing World Champion on the platform, but has also shown his speed in other sims. He is currently competing for RAFA Racing Club alongside Jesper Pedersen and Ian ‘Crimsix’ Porter.

Lucas Muller.jpg

Lucas Müller (Dörr Esports)

Lucas has made a name for himself across a number of sims, such as rFactor 2 early in his career. More recently, he has seen success in iRacing, winning the 2023-2024 DNLS in the SP10 class. The Dörr Esports driver has also competed in ESL R1 in the 2023 Spring Season for FaZe Clan.

Bono Huis.jpg

Bono Huis (Mercedes-AMG Esports Team)

Bono won five consecutive Formula SimRacing championships between 2010 and 2014, and also took the 2021 rFactor 2 Formula Pro Championship by winning every single race. The former F1 Esports racer for McLaren and Mercedes is perhaps best known for winning the 2017 $1M Vegas eRace sharing the grid with Formula E drivers, only just defeating then-Formula E driver and current IndyCar pilot Felix Rosenqvist.

Yuri Kasdorp.jpg

Yuri Kasdorp (MOUZ)

Racing for MOUZ since 2023, Yuri has competed in ESL R1 on Rennsport for the team, which included a third place in the ESL R1 2024 Spring Esports World Cup. Additionally, he is an avid iRacing driver and ran rFactor 2 competitively as well.

Marcell Csincsik.jpg

Marcell Csincsik (R8G)

Appearing for Romain Grosjean’s R8G Esports team, Marcell holds the distinction of winning the first-ever ESL R1 season, taking the title spoils in the 2023 Spring major. While he could not repeat the feat in the fall season, he did help R8G to win the team championship, as well as to take second place in the 2024 ESL R1 Esports World Cup.

Devin Braune.jpg

Devin Braune (Rocket Simsport)

A veteran of rFactor 2, Devin has won the VEC LMP2 Championship in 2020 – and came 4th in the Le Mans Virtual edition of that year in the same week. The German used to do karting for most of his childhood and youth, which apparently transferred well to the sim rig, as his RCCO World eX PRO Championship race wins also attest to.

Rudy van Buren.jpg

Rudy van Buren

Driving for Team Redline in virtual cars was not enough for Rudy, so he graduated to being Red Bull Racing’s official F1 Simulator Test and Development driver – a path that seems like a logical extension to his duties as McLaren’s sim development driver after winning the first edition of World’s Fastest Gamer in 2017. As if working with one of the most successful modern-era Formula One teams was not exciting enough, Rudy also competed in real cars, for instance in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and Porsche Supercup, as well as in Autocross.

TBA (BS+ Competition)

The final driver in the lineup is not set yet, but they will be wearing zebra-themed apparel of BS+ Competition. The German-based team has a number of interesting drivers on its roster, including 2012 DTM champion Bruno Spengler or 2022 W Series runner-up Beitske Visser, or six-time European Truck Racing champion Norbert Kiss.

For obvious reasons I cannot compete myself, but having raced with and against most of these drivers, I can confidently say that I would have a very hard time beating them. For that reason alone I am very much looking forward to seeing what other girls and boys from our community rise to the occasion to try and beat these drivers. And even if you're not competing, feel free to drop by, say hi and take the sim for a spin!
