An idea that started as a one-person operation to re-create treasured childhood memories has turned into one of the most hotly anticipated radio-controlled style driving games in the last decade. This is RCTrophy.

Creator Eugene Hatskevich wanted to bring the world of rock crawling and offroad RC racing to gamers worldwide. Originally based on childhood nostalgia, TrophyRC is generating a lot of excitement across Steam and LinkedIn.

"Ever since I was a kid, I've been drawn to speed, cars, and motorsports. I’d stay up late, hiding in the dark, secretly watching the Dakar Rally while my parents thought I was asleep. In kindergarten, I’d tell everyone that my dad was a Formula 1 driver. But my biggest dream back then was to own a remote-controlled car - something that was almost impossible to get at the time. That was when, at just three years old, my passion for cars really took hold of me.

You know, some dreams fade over time, but deep down, they never really leave you. One day, a friend of mine, who’s in his thirties, showed up at a party with a remote-controlled car. We, a bunch of grown men, were instantly transported back to our childhoods, and it was amazing!

From that day on, I started diving deeper into this hobby. I discovered that behind those simple remote-controlled cars was a whole world - massive offline communities, clubs, exhibitions, and competitions. But I wanted more - I wanted to come home after a long day, kick back in my comfy chair, and tackle virtual obstacles with friends online. That’s how the idea for Trophy RC was born." - Eugene Hatskevitch

The world of RC games had its golden era in the 1990s and early 2000s, with many PlayStation 2 and PC titles, including Micro Machines or Re-Volt, and many smaller budget titles. The closest a significant game title has come to replicating the RC spirit would be the Hot Wheels Unleashed series across all platforms.

TrophyRC has received a lot of praise for its unique idea and intriguing, albeit limited, available gameplay. Hatskevitch recently announced that the title has received its first major RC brand collaboration, with the announcement coming very soon. This is what fans of the RC car genre want to see: an RC title with real-world manufacturer support and a passionate developer behind it.

System Requirments

Processor64-Bit64-Bit
Memory16GB32GB
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD equivalentNVIDIA GeForce GTX 2060 or AMD equivalent
Storage2GB Available2GB Available

Whilst the game's system requirements are not too specific, once it is optimised and released on Steam, it should be fairly simple to run on most modern PC systems. Wheel and pedal support is unlikely, but a controller would actually be the far more realistic option for TrophyRC!

More Than An RC Driving Game

TrophyRC already shows that it is much more than a scaled-down offroad simulator. In the final screenshot available on Steam, there is a workbench with a disassembled RC car. A customizable base for the RC cars in TrophyRC is critical to the title's DNA, as real RC cars are incredibly customizable - your creativity is often the only limit. Could TrophyRC be the answer to this in the world of gaming?

With so many interesting avenues that TrophyRC could go down in the future with so many disciplines of RC racing, what style would you most like to see? Do you have your own RC? We would love to see them down in the comments below!

Overall, TrophyRC has plenty of potential for a game that just one person is currently working on. The shell is there, the workings just need to be ironed out. Once a release date is set, we can start getting excited about the return of RC cars to our screens.

The same backyard-style map is the only option available right now. However, there are more maps and areas to come

Is TrophyRC an exciting prospect for you? Which RC manufacturers would you want to see in the game? Let us know in the comments below!

oh I would prefer a not mini mudrunner game but one with fast race and fun like a mini dirt 5, but still less expensive than a real RC car :D

Looks really cool, I'll certainly give it a closer look!

I remember playing Re-Volt as a kid on a friend's PC, or on my own PlayStation (though that was a rental copy, never owned it myself), which was immense fun. I particularly loved the track creator, as I was constantly doodling race track designs on everything back then :D

Interesting concept though for what it is the system requirements are equal parts vague as they are fairly high too. "64-bit Processor" is very vague.
16GB RAM minimum is pretty high for a niche game even if it does look graphically nice and is intensive followed by a recommended 32GB. 16GB is probably what most people outside of recently built machines have*.
Being able to run on a 1060 minimum followed by a recommended 2060 is nice and equally nice to see but the low GPU requirements coupled with high RAM and vague CPU requirement says to me this will be a CPU intensive title.
Lastly the Windows 10 requirement gave me a chuckle. That aside it shows how long this has been in development.

*When I built mine two or three years back despite being DDR4, I knew this day would come and have 64GB for this very reason.

When all is said and done, it looks like an interesting concept targeted at a very specific group of people. While I'm not in that group it does look interesting and if they want to appeal to a broader audience for them to be willing to take a risk.

As for Overtake, I must also say nice job finding this and going outside the box of mainstream racers to provide a nice write up on this game.

Talking RC games, I've been enjoy Kithack Model Club a lot. It's not as focussed on rc cars, but in addition you can also build planes, boats and rockets.

Those were wonderful times! When I was a kid, I also played ReVolt with my friends, but on the Sega Dreamcast. I found it on Steam not so long ago. It was cool to be in childhood a little bit.
