Attempting To Collect Assetto Corsa's Three Rarest Achivements In Three Hours

Assetto Corsa is renowned for having over 700 achievements on Steam. The rarest ones have just a 0.6% completion rate and only contain base game or DLC content. Can we achieve the 'Golden Glory' trophies in all three of the rarest racing challenges in three hours?

Outside of the endless list of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Golden Glory achievements for the 'Challenges' mode in Assetto Corsa, 18 in-game achievements are based on simple tasks in other modes. While it is good to have some variety, these are considered to be very easy. They include completing ten laps in hotlap mode, reaching 100kph and totalling your car amongst other similar challenges.

There are pages of challenges with a 1% completion rate, or 0.6% according to the Assetto Corsa achievements page. Therefore, to make the three rarest achievements as accurate as possible, I have used the external Steam achievements tracker, True Steam Achievements. This is the most foolproof way of tracking which racing achievements are the least common within the 1% categories.

With two of the challenges containing road cars, the style of driving is drastically different from the 'GT Experience' race with Assetto Corsa's GT3 cars. The Maserati Alfieri race 'Pride' was the first event to tackle. The AI difficulty on 'Alien' is locked to 98% and you start in eighth position out of 20.

'Pride' Golden Glory Achievement

The 'Pride' race was very difficult to master. The white Porsche starts on pole position and is by far the class of the field. The car was on rails and almost unbeatable, especially on the straights with the active aero. The key to making it easier is to divebomb the car at the first hairpin, not hitting the Porsche, but enough to spook the AI into a slow line through the rest of the first sector.

Once this is completed, you are within slipstream distance and it is all about keeping your race clean and making sure there are no mistakes to keep yourself in the tow. I was able to overtake the white Porsche at the end of lap 4, and a simple cruise home for the first 'Golden Glory' achievement of the challenge swiftly followed.

The grass is like ice when you are on overheating road tyres

The 'Pride' challenge took me roughly fifty-six minutes to complete with an average of eight second-place finishes and a plethora of crashes and DNFs. What I learnt from this race was that racing a road car consistently on Assetto Corsa was much more difficult than I anticipated, however, I managed to get a hold of the slippery Maserati and was able to earn the 'Golden Glory' trophy for completing the race on alien difficulty.

'GT Experience' Golden Glory Achievement

This is where it all came tumbling down. The Assetto Corsa GT3 cars are, or were, one of my specialities and a class I have spent a lot of time driving in the past. However, I was not able to get the 'Golden Glory' achievement within the hour allocated due to a significant lack of talent at some points, as well as AI interruptions.

R8 Final Corner.jpg
Leading across the line on the penultimate lap

The saying 'You can't win a race at the first corner' does usually ring true, however, in this case, it has to be ignored with the AI bunching up at the first corner to almost a standstill sometimes. There is often an accident at the apex of the first corner, so make sure you position yourself on the outside.

You start sixth out of 15 opponents and the grid is a spread of all of the base game GT3s. The three cars that you will face at the front will be the Lamborghini Huracán, Mercedes AMG and a fellow Audi R8 LMS. Once you have navigated the inevitable first-corner chaos, keep your race clean and consistent. Any damage will hurt any chance of winning with the number of straights and high-speed corners on the Nürburgring GP circuit.

R8 Crash.jpg

A common occurrence when fighting for the lead with Assetto Corsa's AI

After almost 45 minutes, there were three separate attempts where I was the car in the lead. Twice I made a mistake and caused myself damage, meaning I was uncompetitive and would end up restarting the race. The third time was a crazy lunge into the final corner on the penultimate from the Mercedes AMG, damaging my car and putting me onto the grass with an over-correction post-contact finishing the job and retiring me from the race.

Overall, I could and should have gotten the 'Golden Glory' achievement for the 'GT Experience' challenge, but it was not to be within the allotted time. It will be completed eventually in my quest to get every one of the 709 achievements for Assetto Corsa.

'Forest Run' Golden Glory Achievement

This achievement was a real shock for me. You take the Lamborghini Huracán Performante for five laps around Brands Hatch GP against a wide range of other supercars ranging from McLarens to the competitive Lotus 2-Eleven.

The race can be made a lot easier if you are aggressive into turn one, it's a repetitive theme with Assetto Corsa's AI races in challenge mode. You start in eighth out of 20 competitors and you can be in the top three by the time you get to Druids Corner. The following two cars should be the Lotus 2-Eleven in second and the McLaren 570s leading the way.

First and Second.jpg

The McLaren 570s leading onto the Brands Hatch GP loop

Be careful passing on the GP loop at Brands Hatch, it is especially dangerous in road cars with little to no aero compared to their GT counterparts. Come the end of the race, I was just over three seconds clear of the chasing Lotus. The best part, it was the first attempt at the challenge and not a single collision was made with another car as well as no off-track warnings. A perfect run for the final achievement in this three-hour challenge.

The level of ease with which I completed this challenge could be down to racing on road tyres and getting used to it a lot quicker with the Maserati race earlier on. the other alternative is that I had just come from an infinitely frustrating session with the 'GT Experience' challenge. Either way, 'Forest Run' was a breeze and would recommend it for an easy 'Golden Glory' achievement.

At the end of the three hours, I had completed two of the three challenges - but it really should have been all three. There will inevitably be other challenges and achievements that other websites calculate are the rarest but for this challenge, TrueSteamAchievments was our source.

How many of Assetto Corsa's achievements have you managed to get? Which challenge gave you the most hassle? Let us know in the comments down below!

I also use the TSA site but getting all the achievements appeared to be almost impossible for me. I have completed 294 of 709 or 41%.

The achievement I'm most proud of is A Hell 4 You. Managed to earn it with pro driving settings (h-shifter + heel/toe) and with high graphics (very thick fog).

According to my TSA list the Natural Goal achievement is worth more than Forest Run. But these stats change regularly of course. I remember Natural Goal Golden Glory to be the most fun achievement I earned (front wheel drive Audi TT Cup on Nordschleife Endurance).

Glad to see attention to AC achievements. To me they were always great fun to have, and helped to perceive how I was getting better. Although at one time all of them were adjusted and became significantly easier.

I think steam achievements in AC showed to me, that a proper simulation can also be a game, and in a creative ways become a lot more entertaining than just driving. Well this, and also cruise servers in LFS.

By the way, those screenshots are not great.

I didn't know about the site, interesting. I'm at 77% clear rate or 549 of 709 achievements. I have not done any of the drift, time attack or drag challenges.

I always found it fun to do the time or race challenges first when new content dropped for the game.. Been such a long time ago now.

Those challanges along with the "career" was indeed the things which i used AC for the first few years. If i think back how underdeveloped the AI until end of 2017 was ^^ oh boy. It was a pita sometimes.
People were always complaining, but this basic stuff was allot more than some other sims offers at start.

I set the goal to reach 100% before the end of this year, partially inspired by a bald tea drinking gent, and partially because I love the sim. Currently at 79% but looks like I'm going to fail this challange, there are some really hard ones in there. I'm almost done with the AI races, but damn, my sanity is taking a toll. So many times I got punted off the road by some AI driver who somehow managed to stay on the outside in a turn, and then drive into me on the exit despite me being an absolute chad and leaving enough space. Or their defensive behaviour when they suddenly slow down in the middle of the turn when you are following inches away, just to cause a collision that will send only you into the gravel pits. Formula races were the worst.
And there is the BMW GT2 hotlap in Imola. As far as I know, that is one of the broken achievments, one that wasn't a big deal in the release version, but extremely difficult since the tyre model updates, as the target time haven't been adjusted. I need to find 2.6 seconds. Similar story with the Ferrari 458, but I only need 0.6 there.

Achievs are completely forgotten in most sim, yet it brings a challenge to players and sometimes allows you to make combos or discover vehicles that you would never have tried. Having achievements for championships can be very interesting. I would like to have some on Raceroom and Ams2 because these sim are perfect for this with their large number of possibilities. Lmu has some but doesnt exploit them enough I think. It makes me want to relaunch AC ^^
