On the 31st of October 2023, EA Sports WRC was released. It has been just over a year since that initial release - how has the game held up in its first year? What has the community most enjoyed over the game's first year?

Over the past few weeks, there have been several articles talking about and discussing the state of EA Sports WRC. The title has competition from other rally sims both modern and classic, especially against DIRT Rally 2.0. But for those who prefer EA Sports' efforts, what has been the most popular car choice and rally over the game's first cycle?

Unsurprisingly, the top class is the modern Rally1 WRC cars. These modern monsters have been the class that the development team have put the most time and effort into in recent updates. The cars received an extra version in the last update to make the Toyota Yaris, the Hyundai i30 and the Ford Puma up look and sound the part for the 2024 season.

Interestingly, the World Rally Car '97-11' class comes in at the impressive third spot. Historic rally cars are rarely the stars of the show, especially with the licensed modern WRC cars being the focus of EA Sports WRC, so it is good to see the classics are still getting thrown around the rally stages around the world.

As for the community's most driven car, the Rally1 Toyota was always going to take the top spot. The M-Sport Puma comes in a close second but surprisingly, the Hyundai is kicked off the final step of the podium. The Ford Fiesta Rally3 car takes the final spot, this could well be due to its popularity at the start of the career mode.

To contradict the car class list, the Group B Audi Quattro is the only historic car in the top ten. The Group B class will forever be popular in rally sims, but not quite enough to knock the Rally1 machinery from their thrones at the top, it would seem.

With these lists indicating what the most popular locations and cars were throughout the first year of EA Sports WRC, what did you most enjoy driving and where did you most enjoy driving it? It could be Group B in Sweden or the classic 60s cars in Japan. Let us know down below!

Rally Monte Carlo stands as the clear winner. This could be down to the fact that it is often the first rally selected on the screen whilst setting up your rally or in career mode, or the fact that some stages are on dry tarmac, and some are on ice and snow. The variety and tactical planning required to be fast throughout the rally is very charismatic for Monte Carlo.

Portugal and Finland follow Monte Carlo, two locations that could not be further away from the class leader in terms of style of rally. Finland is full of fast forest stages with huge jumps and long banked turns. Portugal is open and dusty with a seriously high level of concentration and stage knowledge required to go fast.

The Rally1 cars are really awesome, all three, then, for me, comes the World Rally Car '97-11' cars with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI being my favourite just like in Dirt Rally 2.0 and then the Rally2 with Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. If they add new cars to the game, it would be great if they could expand the WRC Cars "2017-2021" class, with the Hyundai i20 and the Toyota Yaris. Rally Locations for me Top 5 are: Finnland, Kenya, Sardegna, Greece and Chile. They all derseve new stages, Greece is going to get one but I wished it was Tarzan. Kenya with Sleeping Warrior, Sardegna with Monte Lerno and of course Finnland with Ouninpohja.

The game is incredible. But with each new Windows update, the game stops working. I haven't been able to play it for almost a month. It is the only game that starts and closes. I have everything updated. It's a shame and crazy not to be able to play.

maybe to you but 30years of racing games this is not realistic or simulation..grab your gamepad and starts your engine.and its ugly like petteri orpo and riikka scissorhand purra!

The anti cheat killed the game for me literally

With the latest version RSF RBR blows WRC away to a point i don't even care about it protection, very bad vr support and no motion compensation and all the other stuff that is wrong with the game.

RBR honestly look better in VR, drives better and has a much larger selection of stages to choose from.

The best thing : It's free

another anti cheat victim here, loved the game till ea decided to pull the plug. still refusing to invest time in workarounds, still waiting for ea to repair this. amazing to pay for sth., enjoy it immensely and then from one day to the next have it taken away from you.

What an absolute let down this game is/was. Having been involved with the Codies community since before DiRT3 I was really excited for this, even though the core DiRT team had changed a lot, but it has been an absolute let down and the community is nothing like it used to be anymore. Poor physics, poor implementation of many features, same principal as DiRT Rally 1 & 2 when it comes to stages/repeated sections.

So glad I discovered just how good RSF RBR is and took the time to learn it properly.

honestly what the anti cheat did ? cause I don't feel any difference for me with time trial, I only play timerial....
honestly, game does not open any more since that version was deployed four months ago. There are possibly hundreds of us, read the forums on steam and ea consumer support if you doubt. only pc users affected. problem then spread when a windows update was introduced some weeks ago.

indeed in windows 11, a lot is possible out there, I'm not joking and as I said, I am far from the only one to have suddenly been unable to even start the game. Very glad you have not been affected. I follow three threads / discussions on various forums once a week to keep updated, so far to no avail, and as I said, I won't spend any time fiddling with my software as they broke it, not me. Also: I wouldn't even know how to cheat, so the anticheat is completely lost on me, lol. I'm just a very average player who has done nothing wrong.

so you said 100 with issue, I have checked, 232 000 copies sold on steam, it means 0.04% have issue, not so much ;), maybe a little bit too much drama :D (let's say 1000 have issue, only 0.4%), you have more chance to have Lung cancer, the risk is 2% ;), if windows 11 is the only way, dont stay on 10, there is a lot of features better in W11.

thx for your commiserations, I have not been a windows victim, that problem came later and I was never affected by it, w11 user since day 1. It's just freaky, to have done absolutely nothing wrong, really enjoyed the game and suddenly it's dead, while most lung cancer patients did their fair share to help the tumor along, so that analogy sort of doesn't work. It's more like being hit by a stray bullet in a mall when you just wanted to go shopping and some idiot decides to run amok, almost everyone survives, you don't. Out of the blue.
