The excitement about Assetto Corsa EVO is undeniable in the sim racing community. At ADAC SimRacing Expo 2024, Kunos Simulazioni shared further details regarding the game's multiplayer, car customization and in-game economy.

After a long wait with little info, more and more detail regarding Assetto Corsa EVO emerges as the first playable pre-alpha version allowed hands-on impressions and direct interaction with Kunos Simulazioni at ADAC SimRacing Expo 2024. At the event, Kunos founder Marco Massarutto and Game Director Davide Brivio shared more details on the eagerly-awaited sim.

Multiplayer Partnership With SimGrid

While many questions focused on the singleplayer side of things as well as more general elements, multiplayer sim racers now also got an interesting bit of info: Kunos partners with SimGrid for the online implementation. "The ambition of AC EVO is huge, and we're here to support the vision for multiplayer", stated SimGrid's CMO Steve Worrell. "This allows Kunos to take care of the core of the game."

This does not mean that SimGrid is the exclusive platform for AC EVO's online part, as Massarutto stated: "We are taking advantage of the expertise of SimGrid, but we want to keep the ecosystem open for activities like leagues." Like AC and ACC, Assetto Corsa EVO will rely on a server-based online model rather than a P2P system.

With the game engine being developed in-house again after ACC's use of Unreal Engine, Kunos keeps the door open to do more with AC EVO down the road, too. "The structure allows us to support the game for many years, maybe even forever", stated Massarutto.

"RPG for petrolheads"

Meanwhile, both singleplayer and multiplayer will see the implementation of an in-game economy and progress system. Players will start with a handful of cash to buy their first car, then work their way up the reputation ladder from there. Car customization will be part of this, and "it will go deeper than just visuals", as Brivio confirmed. Massarutto added: "We want to not just create a career, but an RPG for petrolheads."

As the player progresses, they earn currency - but only in-game, so microtransactions seem to be ruled out of this model. A welcomed approach in an age of games that promote in-game purchases for real money at seemingly every corner. The progress and economy system will not be active for competitive events, as Massarutto specifically mentioned esports. Those who just want to drive any car can also do so by "renting" cars, although "borrowing" might be a more fitting term.

Kunos' founder (the other being Stefano Casillo) also addressed concerns of players that fear that proper racing events might take a back seat, judging from the preview footage available thus far. "We wanted to re-think sim racing, which is strictly dedicated to track-based racing. This is also safe in EVO - we made sure it is there", he ensured. Like in the original Assetto Corsa, a wide range of cars will be available, including GT, Prototype, Formula 1 and vintage machinery.

On the other hand, however, Kunos let their inner petrolheads shine through. "We are all car lovers, go to track days and manager our cars like it is our side job", said Brivio. "This is similar for many sim racers - they love cars." And as many "beautiful cars" do not shine as they should on a track, players will be able to take them to the road instead: "We want players to be able to enjoy every car at its best."

VR & Triple Screen Support On Early Access Launch

Additionally, Massarutto confirmed that VR and triple screen support will be on board already when the Early Access version of AC EVO launches on January 16 - and was overwhelmed by the feedback on the first hands-on version: "We are so glad to see how much love, passion and interest the community puts in our product. It’s the fuel that lets us work on it every day as best as we can. I’m speechless about the great feedback we have already received."

What are your thoughts on the additional details on Assetto Corsa EVO? Have you tried the game at SimRacing Expo? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our AC EVO forum!

I hope you can turn off all the in game currency and just have a sim were you can make custom championships with different rule set and race what ever cars you want. The whole, I can soup up my car so it’s faster than the field and progress up the ladder…. Not for me. I will lose interest real fast. This is not the news I was wanting to hear!!

Dude this is why you and i get along so well haha that and Pennsylvania but yeah man I could not agree more

Interesting concept and idea, not my primary interest, but as it seems to be, if it does not interfere with the core of the simulator, as an additional activity available, I will look forward to give it a chance. I think it is smart from Kunos, it will appeal to a different type of gamer and it might make them discover the pleasure of purely driving in a proper simulator.

Same idea but with a different name and better physics. I own Forza series on PC, there is a reason i haven't played in almost 8 months.

Race this series of car so you can upgrade it so you can buy the next level and continue until the end. No. No thank you. I'm sure its good for others but I haven't played Forza in months for that reason. Its rise and repeat/Grinding.
Then don't buy it. Simple isn't it?

"RPG for petrolheads"

No thank you

So basically Gran Turismo or Forza

I just like to practice, hotlaps and random practices against AI until I get bored. I don't play forza a lot because of that stuff, I don't care about random challenges or quest or whatever. I just want to get in a car, pick a track and run laps until I'm bored and alt f4. Like I can do and do now. I don't want to earn the 992 Porsche or 919 thru some event i have to complete, or earn enough money so I can buy. I just want to pick it and go.
Dude forgot every racing game ever has "Quick Race" or "Free Race"...

they are saying that you have to earn your way to the 992 if you want to drive it, then you have to buy it with money you made paying the game. It doesn't mention anything about the cars because able to use without going this route. As it stated its an "RPG for motorheads" That's why I've said this is basically Forza and Gran Turismo now.

I'm not sure whether you saw that comment. I'd be surprised if the in-game economy was so strict that you couldn't borrow any car you wanted at any time. So hopefully that means that you can effectively ignore the in-game economy.

Personally, I'm very happy about the new gameplay options paired with uncompromising simulation (I hope). I don't do MP (for all the reasons covered before on this site), so a single-player economy is exactly what I hoped for.

That certainly sounds like you've gotta have money from the in game economy so that you can "rent/borrow" said vehicle. I personally wouldn't be surprised if it was.

From the video interviews I've watched so far that is what I'm picking up from them. Everything will "evo"lve around this "rpg style mindset", owning a car and having an attachment to a car like you would a gear set in an RPG game.

I don't do online at all either, but I don't have time to grind out 100k credits or work my way up a progression campaign tree from an 80's M3 just so I can buy a 992 to drive on Nords.

Again that's why I stopped playing Forza. Wanna drive the 992? 280k in credits, OH and you only earn 10k a race and here's an 80's BMW M3 to start you out.. Now get grinding. No.. no thank you

People's reading comprehension on this site really baffles me.

They moan about the GT/Forza career aspect of the game but fail to understand the borrow/rent side of it, which basically means they will still be able to jump into ANY car and ANY track at ANYTIME and do whatever it is that they already do in AC.

Every game I've ever played that offered that same idea made you earn in game money so you could rent/borrow a vehicle and then you had it for a limited time.

"RPG game" and "Players will start with a handful of cash to buy their first car, then work their way up the reputation ladder from there." This kind of bugs me. If I want to do this, I'll buy any Simcade like Forza Horizon or Gran Turismo, not Assetto Corsa where all the cars have to be available RIGHT AWAY. Hopefully they don't make any missteps and getting the cars isn't too much of a hassle thanks.

Maybe I heard him wrong but even with CC turned on it sounds exactly like I've been saying. This from KUNOS themselves and being interviewed by this website. He has a thick accent and maybe I am miss hearing but it certainly sounds like it.

So basically take Forza and Gran Turismo and copy/paste the same thing to a new title. This is like when Project Cars 2 went to Project Cars 3 imo. Nothing wrong with AC or ACC. Why not just play Forza or Gran Turismo at that point?
Easy Answer Cause Gran Tourismo and Forza are no full Sims! Look at the mods of AC. There is a big focus on freerroam Maps and Street Cars/ Tuned Cars. So basicly Kunos just looked at what the Players want.

The way I interpret that is as an option, not as the only way of doing things.
See how he says "you don't just have the cars to choose with but can collect the cars" or something along those lines.

In fact during the OT livestream, Davide said if you want to play Assetto in sandbox mode, "they will provide the functionality to rent cars without ever being bought". He then was interrupted by the OT guy and changed the subject
Linked and timestamped as well.

I believe we're going to get all of this and more. Free roam with any car and any track at anytime FOR FREE no restrictions(unless you want them), a SP campaign like structure with in-game currency NO microtransactions, and online play with casual and ranked modes. I'm super super stoked for this game. I freaking love AC and ACC. I stopped playing Forza a while back. Basically after I got my PS5 strictly for GT7 with PSVR2, I've not touched the Forza games again. I want that full sim experience. Kunos is gonna bring it. Will it be perfect? Heck no but probably leaps and bounds ahead of the latest PC racing game entries.

This is exactly my take on it aswell. Kunos have been dropping hints about a career mode “done right” for a couple of years now, I’m optimistic.

if your biggest complaint about Forza is the grinding economy system and not the physics, then you don't have much to do with ACEVO anyways.
