RaceRoom launched an enormous update in early September, much to many sim racers' joy. Now, the sim is set to continue this path with its October update.

When RaceRoom dropped its biggest update yet in September, sim racers got to enjoy historic tracks for the first time in the sim, but the other major pillar of the patch was the improved graphics. The changes gave the sim a fresher look, and this trend is set to continue with the RaceRoom October Update.

Graphics & Performance Improvements

Due to release on October 15, the new update will further polish certain visual elements while also boosting performance at the same time. Developer KW Studios has conducted "a deep cleanup of our rendering code, as a first step towards further engine upgrades", resulting in smoother performance. According to KW Studios, the main culprit was overdraw, especially in cockpit mode, which has apparently been greatly improved.

In addition to this, mysteriously vanishing objects at the seams between individual monitors in triple screen setups and on the edge of the right eye in VR will be addressed by the update.

Visuals On Cars & Tracks

At the same time, RaceRoom continues to refresh its existing tracks, this time putting the Hungaroring and the Salzburgring in the spotlight. Both circuits will receive 2024-spec overhauls as free updates, so players get to enjoy them in their up-to-date versions without paying extra.

A smaller tweak to the visuals happens in the cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), which will receive improved LED indicators. They should help racers to easier identify when ABS and Traction Control are active, and a pit speed limit warning system is also on the list of improvements.

AI Improvements & Car Fixes

Finally, KW Studios also showed RaceRoom's AI some love. While no details are available yet, the computer-controlled competitors should exhibit more realistic behavior "and pace across multiple classes and tracks". Meanwhile, numerous cars will receive smaller adjustments, "as usually found in every RaceRoom update".

We found the AI to be quite racy already when trying the 1995 DTM cars and tracks alongside the September update already, so if things continue to head in this direction, offline racers in particular should be quite pleased with the results.

The update also resulted in a noticeable jump in players for the sim, as our article on the most played racing games on Steam in September 2024 showed. The title averaged 38.47% more players than in August after the update deployed on September 4.

Does anybody else get a lot of Error 503 connection errors? There are so many times where I want to jump in and the game will not connect. Gotta love always connected games. I get the same crap with Forza 23 too. I can be listening to streaming audio at the same time, so I know I have internet connection...

with my simucube, it's very very very good, some cars are the best of the market and I have driven the real car, it's the same (bmw m2).
It's with iRacing, the best AI. This game has the quality and quantity, unlike AMS2, the driving feeling in this last game is a waste for the content.

this is ur internet routing problem
VPN should help with this - or better call ISP and tell them about this issue

it needs a significant VR update for me to get on board. The game is incredible, but the VR performance is so terrible. I have a Pimax Crystal with a 4090 and I have to dial it back to look like something from a first gen VR headset for it to operate cleanly. Just not worth it for us VR peeps.

I don't get it.

I rejoined R3E just post previous major graphics update, and with my entry-to-mid hardware Quest2/RX6800XT/5700X and even no USB-c Quest Link, just base Virtual Desktop and SteamVR overflow, my VR experience with graphics update running 1080p in-game and fully maxed out resolution with my Quest 2 (5408 x 2736) and altering SteamVR res and Virtual Desktop to max it went totally flawless.
