Today is the day: the reveal of Assetto Corsa EVO gameplay on the official AC YouTube channel, and with it, the early access release date.

Kunos Simulazioni has given a first glimpse of official gameplay for Assetto Corsa EVO, the upcoming follow-up to 2014's Assetto Corsa. From January 16 2025, Assetto Corsa EVO will be available in early access on Steam.

While only brief, the video released on the official Assetto Corsa YouTube channel provides us with plenty of new info regarding cars and other elements to expect. Here are the major takeaways.

New Cars & Additional Features

There were plenty of vehicles we already knew from official confirmation, but several new cars are featured in the trailer. The first new car shown is the BMW M4 CSL (G82), shortly followed by the interior of a Mercedes, although not the previously-confirmed 190E Evo II. Instead, it is the AMG GT2, which appears later in the trailer.

An old Mini is seen being thrown around a track, as is a Morgan Super-3, which will appeal to the lower power and weight car enthusiasts, along with both the original and current versions of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Other new cars shown include the Lotus Emira, McLaren 765 LT and Ferrari 296 GTB, along with the Ferrari Daytona SP3, which will make its first official appearance in a racing title outside of the mobile market.

Despite not appearing in the trailer, the Ferrari F40 Competizione will also be in the game, as shown in an official screenshot.

That is it for cars, but it does not end there. The original Assetto Corsa did not have nighttime or rain driving outside third-party mods, but both featured in the GT-focused sister title Assetto Corsa Competizione. In AC EVO, dynamic time and weather will feature in the game from launch. This will include a full 24 hour cycle like in ACC and seemingly more advanced rain, judging by the standing water in some of the shots.

Plus for the points in the video featuring the Emira and Alpine A110, the reflection work on the window is very detailed. Clearly the graphics team have worked their magic. As for tracks, Brands Hatch, Imola and the Nürburgring Nordschleife were showcased in the trailer, but these were already confirmed. But there appears to be some frames showcasing the likes of Suzuka and Fuji, though we cannot be sure.

However, a few shots in the trailer showed cars driving on a public road. A couple of people on our team who live close to Nordschleife were able to identify it as being near there.

AC EVO traffic.jpg

Those living close to the Nordschleife may recognise this strip of road. Plus, could this be confirmation of traffic? Image: Kunos Simulazioni

Open road tracks are nothing new to Assetto Corsa, with the original having the Trento-Bondone Hill Climb, the Highlands and Black Cat County. But with the road being so close to the Nordschleife, is this an indication that we can leave the confines of the track and go onto public roads?

Not only that, but the shot in the trailer featuring the Morgan on that road has the M4 travelling in the other direction. Might AC EVO feature proper road traffic implementation that we have become used to in major open world racing games like Forza Horizon, Test Drive, The Crew etc.?

If you want to check out our deep dive stream we did, it is on our YouTube channel to replay.

Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access Release Date

Assetto Corsa EVO launches on January 16, 2025, in early access on Steam. It is not clear how many tracks or cars will feature in the initial early access release, but we should find out more in the run-up to release. Initially, Assetto Corsa EVO will be PC-only, with a console version planned later on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

So 'mods' are 'DLCs made by modding teams'. Like BIS is doing with Arma 3 Creator DLC
I think that approach is worth consideration. Would probably have to go the route of RSS and VRC and the likes, skirting around legal issues by making a "Darsche" instead of a "Porsche." Free skins can rectify in-sim branding from there.

Yea you missed the fact that they still haven't confirmed weather mods will be allowed, and combined with this delay this must be the most disappointing news of 2024.

There's cars and tracks. OK. Also sensing zillions DLCs.
I wished it used graphics technology from 2050, but for some reason it does not.
Good old AC will ultimately bury all sims, past, present and future (including ACE) anyway...
I'll wait super realistic graphic also, maybe next 10 or 20 yrs to wait. In ACEvo teaser video some scene footage average, some top notch.

It's exactly what i expected and wanted to see...AC with better graphics, night, rain, new tracks, new cars from many categories, roads with traffic etc
I don't mind at all if it looks like AC with mods like sol bla bla bla, i just wish for a good career mode
ACE is another category and is not developed in order to become the ultimate racing simulator, ppl can't understand **** sometimes

Another premature ejaculation. I blame you doofus sim racers for allowing companies to continuously get away with releasing this "early access" crap. Demand more than that.
Early access can be every bit as beneficial as it can be detrimental. Kunos has proven with two consecutive titles now that they can follow through on the model. Early access does not equate to perpetually incomplete, though plenty of developers have gone that route. Plenty of folks champing at the bit to get an alpha or beta playtest while they continue to build the sim. Nothing wrong with that.

Nice trailer, very inspiring talk at first, and real one, can not disagree. So much possing, blablabla, but the love of cars and real passion stands out IMO, it just is there, the real thing.

Graphically looks very aesthetic. Beautiful, clean, amazing modeling. But just like AC it seems like it will only excel on sunny clear daylight. But otherwise it is superb that night and rainy weather will be there. Grass doesn't look great in wet, but the way water looks on track is amazing.

Great content - for sure. The essence of AC caries on - love for cars.

Hard to tell anything about physics. To me it looks like they might not be changed too much, but... can't tell. I was expecting to see tires flexing. But I guess they are drawing the line for complexity there and keeping it simple. Probably wouldn't expect much of chassis flex either, just guessing. Probably cars won't get higher on two wheels than in a trailer, just like they don't in AC, but again, who needs it, right ? The way Alfa GTA understeered into the apex and snapped into oversteer just right before it was slightly strange. The way Alpine was loosing grip on wet looked soapy, but thats how it would be in case of viscous/dynamic hydroplaning, however people with an eye for wet physics would be looking for twitchy fast slide/grip alterations. I know Kunos were nailing physics almost perfectly as soon as they went into ACC early access, with couple problems and few details that needed balancing, but immediate harsh withdrawal of community for changing paradigm made them panic shift back to AC paradigm. It probably made sense to them to shift even more back to AC physic, even though they surely advanced a lot with ACC, at least in the background. But that is not for average chmoo to like. AC is where the ideal simulation for normal people is at, who just simply likes cars a lot, but not necessarily looks at them driving that much (because if they did, they knew how they behave).

2 minute trailer of which only 1 minute is gameplay footage.

Watching the video at quarter speed:
  1. Tire graphics have no sidewall flex though the tread appears to compress rather than just sink into the ground.
  2. Raindrops on the windshield are not windblown (yet they drip & the wiper slings them).
  3. Driver model looks better than any yet produced, but shifting and tight cornering hand movements were not shown, so we don't know if there will be the rF2 karate chop (if you know what I mean).

Premium
The first generation Golf GTI sells it for me. It was my first real live car. All the other things are nothing more than "interesting ....." ;):)

I really hope they bring more life andy dynamic to the tracks - like debris after crashes, oil- and water-spills, leafes and mud on the track!
On Nordschleife, maybe some deers crossing from time to time.
