Today is the day: the reveal of Assetto Corsa EVO gameplay on the official AC YouTube channel, and with it, the early access release date.

Kunos Simulazioni has given a first glimpse of official gameplay for Assetto Corsa EVO, the upcoming follow-up to 2014's Assetto Corsa. From January 16 2025, Assetto Corsa EVO will be available in early access on Steam.

While only brief, the video released on the official Assetto Corsa YouTube channel provides us with plenty of new info regarding cars and other elements to expect. Here are the major takeaways.

New Cars & Additional Features

There were plenty of vehicles we already knew from official confirmation, but several new cars are featured in the trailer. The first new car shown is the BMW M4 CSL (G82), shortly followed by the interior of a Mercedes, although not the previously-confirmed 190E Evo II. Instead, it is the AMG GT2, which is featured later in the trailer.

An old Mini is seen being thrown around a track, as is a Morgan Super-3, which will appeal to the lower power and weight car enthusiasts, along with both the original and current versions of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Other new cars shown include the Lotus Emira, McLaren 765 LT and Ferrari 296 GTB, along with the Ferrari Daytona SP3, which will make its first official appearance in a racing title outside of the mobile market.

Despite not appearing in the trailer, the Ferrari F40 Competizione will also be in the game, as shown in an official screenshot.

It will be possible in the AC EVO base game to do full 24 hour cycle racing, so you can drive at night! Image: Kunos Simulazioni

That is it for cars, but it does not end there. The original Assetto Corsa did not have nighttime or rain driving outside third-party mods, but both featured in the GT-focused sister title Assetto Corsa Competizione. In AC EVO, dynamic time and weather will feature in the game from launch. This will include a full 24 hour cycle like in ACC and seemingly more advanced rain, judging by the standing water in some of the shots.

Plus for the points in the video featuring the Emira and Alpine A110, the reflection work on the window is very detailed. Clearly the graphics team have worked their magic. As for tracks, Brands Hatch, Imola and the Nürburgring Nordschleife were showcased in the trailer, but these were already confirmed. But there appears to be some frames showcasing the likes of Suzuka and Fuji, but we cannot be sure.

However, a few shots in the trailer showed cars driving on a public road. A couple of people on our team who live close to Nordschleife were able to identify it as being near there.

AC EVO traffic.jpg

Those living close to the Nordschleife may recognise this strip of road. Plus, could this be confirmation of traffic? Image: Kunos Simulazioni

Open road tracks are nothing new to Assetto Corsa, with the original having the Trento-Bondone Hill Climb, the Highlands and Black Cat County. But with the road being so close to the Nordschleife, is this an indication that we can leave the confines of the track and go onto public roads?

Not only that, but the shot in the trailer featuring the Morgan on that road has the M4 travelling in the other direction. Might AC EVO feature proper road traffic implementation that we have become used to in major open world racing games like Forza Horizon, Test Drive, The Crew etc.?

If you want to check out our deep dive stream we did, it is on our YouTube channel to replay.

Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access Release Date

Assetto Corsa EVO launches on January 16, 2025, in early access on Steam. It is not clear how many tracks or cars will feature in the initial early access release, but we should find out more in the run-up to release. looks good, my old PC will probably not make the cut, by the time I upgrade (about two years from now) EVO will be fully developed and on sale. Insta belated buy ;)
edit: just checked specs on Steam: the 1060 card might be the dealbraker, will try the Early Access, WRC was asking for a 1070 as well and ran smoothly on my 1060 anyway, so who knows?
If you wait a year till the price drops and the bugs are ironed out, you'll likely find some mods for it too, you never know the price of a reasonable card might be within reach then too, besides, I ran most things on my 1060 for ages and it's a capable card, if you have a chance to try before you buy give it a whirl.

Felt like taking everything that is good with AC CSP and packaging it with new game engine.

I think they did their research well considering that little shot of morgen with car going opposite way is huge part of AC online player count today.

Now just my opinion here but I am kinda skeptical this game will have truly modding open.

I'm very excited by the classic cars teased, but as others have said I need a reason to invest in AC Evo. It needs to have a good single player career ( that bar is pretty low for race sims) or really great online mode. You'd hope they'd totally ignore GT racing for once given the existence of ACC but I'm guessing they feel they can't.

AMS2 already does the wide breadth of content at an affordable price thing pretty well for reasonably realistic but more infrequent and casual play. STILL waiting for them to put in a single player career and it seems that they have given up on first party online, beyond ensuring third party systems are supported (which to be fair is sensible). Bit of a danger that AC Evo just ends up very similar.

My big question will be "Why?". Why am I coming to this game, and driving an Austin Mini, or Golf GTI or Alfa Romeo Guilia?

With Gran Turismo, there's the collecting aspect and upgrading, and progressing through the campaign (tedious though it may seem at times).

Why am I doing anything in AC? Another half-baked career mode? Do I want to be in an online series for Morgan 3-wheelers or Porsche Macan street versions? Just give me something original.
or you could just be happy another racing game is coming
also you could give them the benefit of the doubt
or you just had a bad day and needed to show some negativity online
or you were just trolling for attention, & you got me good, damn it.

Looks like the same sort of thing as original AC with multiple disciplines. Just hope they've got the performance nailed. Because AC1 fully polished with all the fancy things CSP brings runs amazingly and looks just as good as any of that footage. Can guarentee that won't be the case though.

When it runs stable on PC it will be ported to the consoles, that's where the real money is made.
Got CSP for the Xbox and Paystation?

What? None of what you said makes any sense in relation to what I said. I couldn't care less about console. After how poor the console version of ACC is compared to pc I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even bother. ACC definitely didn't sell that well on console that's why it's constantly in the sales.

Too many road cars for my taste (I don't care for these) but it does look good and now AC will have weather and day/night options, a great addition.
Tbh i am so happy about this, we have a gazillion games with racing cars, but we dont have a proper next gen sports car simulator. I hope ACE can be the Gran Turismo of the PC platform so to speak. Ofc it will come to console though. I am properly looking forward to it and as an unpopular opinion: i hope they dont alllow modding. This way they can ensure a high quality standard of everything that is available for the game and have a curated environment to add new content, create online challenges etc. Leave the modding playfield for AC. No need to try and migrate modders.

ummm what graphics engine its using?
Sad that again 505 games is behind....i would have prefered to have an only Kunos sim.
Something tells me that is not gonna be performance friendly....if its something like ACC i will stick with AC the First and Only!

The driving aspect of AC is unmatched. No other sim is even close. And to think that Gran Turismo isn't even a sim. If you treat simracing as a MMORPG where you level up and unlock stuff, you're looking for the wrong thing.

What I saw in this trailer is that physics wise, it looks closer to AC than ACC which is very good news. Because something is really messed up with ACC. Maybe culprit actually was UE4 after all.

Graphics aren't mind blowing, but at this day and age no game really can be.

In house graphics engine like original AC.

505 games is just the publisher. It's Kunos making the game. No Stefano though.

Its a new inhouse graphics engine....We have known this since the first interview here on RD about AC 2. That was even before the evo moniker.

Well, I don't want to deny other people their fun! ;) I'm not crazy about road cars, but I know they are very popular with other sim racers. That said, one of the things that I didn't like much about AC was the fact that they would add race cars to the sim, but never the entire field of cars from the same championship. For example, the game included a bunch of Ferrari F1 cars, but there were no other F1s, so it was great for hot lapping but you could not race them because there were no opponents. Same for the Porsche prototypes, etc. That's why modders were necessary to the game: they would add the cars that were missing from the game to have races.

However, with games becoming increasingly complex, I wonder how that will affect modding. Will it be harder/longer to mod cars and tracks?

Assetto Forza. Car passion...whatever that means...
Looks like ACC with a bunch or AC1 content, quick street rides to wrestle around Imola.
Oooh Lemme at that stock Alfa! Cant wait to see how the street tires do in the rain!!!!! You know, a modded Fiat is just down right exhilerating on the Nords too!
Talk about a snooze fest....
Nothing new here, Modded AC is still going to be the standard imho.
And dont you dare repackage a F***ing Abarth and try to tell me its fun. Its not.

Looks like a poor atempt at being the italian Gran turismo (ironic that pun).

Bunch of cars and some nice scenary. No talks about features ,no showcase of any technical inovations, not even outlines of what the game will have or be.

It's amazing how many column centimeters people read and write over a trailer that shows absolutely nothing of interest, besides that it looks ok,but not ground breaking graphics wise.
