Automobilista 2: Sebring Teaser Released, Includes Alpine

Automobilista 2 update v1.6 is eagerly awaited by sim racers. A new teaser shows Sebring for the first time, as well as the Alpine A424 LMDh.

Reiza Studios are hard at work. Their initial "Road To v1.6" dev update was intended to have a second part to follow soon - which then turned to two further parts. Neither of them have been released yet as the team behind Automobilista 2 prioritize working on the sim itself rather than the dev updates.

However, the news that Reiza had struck a licensing deal with Alpine made headlines in early August, as did a preview of content to be included in the big v1.6 update. This did not reveal everything, of course, and only Road Atlanta had been officially confirmed to be joining the sim to expand the IMSA calendar.

First Sebring Shot

A new forum post by Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni now includes Sebring for the first time. The iconic venue of the 12 Hours of Sebring is, of course, part of the IMSA calendar and looks set to be part of the 1.6 update. The track's main straight and pit building are shown at night, with fireworks on display in the night sky - most likely a new feature as well.

On track, two Porsche 963s can be seen roaring past the pit building, accompanied by an Alpine A424 in between them. The LMDh Hypercar may not be racing in IMSA, but thanks to the shot, it would appear that it is en route for the incoming update as well.

As Reiza does not give deadlines for releases anymore, summer 2024 has been mentioned as a broad release window. Depending on your definition, summer is close to ending in September. But as always, patience is needed, especially with the amount of work that goes into the update.

Either way, Simioni's forum post also mentions that it "won't be long for fireworks" - whether that means the next part of the dev update, the v1.6 update itself, or even both remains to be seen.

Very much looking forward to the update. Hell, very much looking forward to the update about the update. Sebring with AMS2's FFB should be a good and potentially shart inducing time, at least in the wet. Might have to jump back into some rF2 Sebring to tide me over.

How did you access the update?
Some of us signed up as paddock club members maybe a year ago when it was opened up for a limited time and that gives us beta access.
There is some amazing content coming with 1.6, the game also looks different and the handling is much more believable.

Reiza have done far more with this engine than what SMS ever did and they are making it do things that supposedly wasn't possible previously.

To me it is more like AMS2.5

Reiza also still have big plans and features that they still want to include later down the track too.

Well afaik, putting aside the usual and endless physics rant - Sebring and Road Altanta are very very solid entries ! cant wait to drive some Indy's in Atlanta !

I mean, SMS did make the engine... IMO they deserve a lot of credit for that (especially with its excellent optimisation), as well as what Reiza have impressively added to it
They half baked it, Reiza has basically finished it off for them. SMS seemed to be happy to leave it in a state of disrepair even though there were glaring issues with it.

I am a super 200% AMS2 supporter. But i remember a -100% supporter talked bad about the slide physics in openwheelrs. And unfornately it was the case. I am much faster sliding an AI williams high electronic car than mine

And SMS deserves ALL of the credit for the amazing VR experience. Hopefully someday Reiza can find a capable VR programmer to fix some of the long standing VR issues.

SMS definitely deserve credit, for leaving a mess so large that Reiza get a lot of heat for what they've got left to clean up...

It's one of the reasons 1.5 was such a set back for the many who understand tyres... Instead of a fix that needed minor tuning over the years they had years of tyre fixes ahead... Which takes time away from the other physics issues that need rectifying...

Even as loud as people have been about the BETA, there's still enough people in there saying it's too grippy they've just toned down the sliding...

Its the inherited physics from PC2, where there is no feel for what the car is doing, the rear end is sliding around like a drifting sim rather than a racing sim. The handling is inconsistent from one corner to the next let alone lap to the next, and the car goes from no-grip understeer on corner entry to sudden mid-corner massive grip and oversteer on the way out. You can even see it in youtube videos, its so apparent. I had a lot of hopes for this game and was a big supporter, and the original physics updates were doing well towards addressing this, then suddenly the last 2 updates have taken it back towards the original problem again. I was holding lots of hope until 1.4 came out, then they went even further wrong with 1.5 and I uninstalled it. I'll be fair and probably reinstall it once 1.6 is released to try it out but I'm not so hopeful anymore.

And it has a brilliant weather system in it, but AI that totally ignore it.

Honestly, Reiza is actually so talented as a group that I wish they'd ditch this engine and create their own game from scratch. If you read their updates, a lot of the time is spent just trying to beat this game engine physics into submission.
But you are aware that there are settings that allow you to adjust the car to your driving style? Even in this 'nasty' PC2 you can do literally everything.

I see the biggest problem with AMS2 have people who want another simracing game but because they don't understand technical aspects calls particular simracing game as a simcade because it is not a one they want. They want a simcade which everyone call simracing game because it's easy, cool, jazzy and sex. Like ordinary car on street. It just works. Sounds stupid? I hope so;)

Sure PC2 has problems but please stop writing nonsenses because you want everything out of the box.

The same is with AMS2. You can do literally everything when it comes to setting up car (if all options are unlocked ofc). That's why such comments are somehow weird. You want sim but you prefer arcade. I don't get it.

I can agree there is still some work to do, because I'm not the one who don't want to see cons but I think you missed some point or I'm tired of reading over and over again same bullshit in every comment section.

When it comes to wheather I didn't notice ignoring it by AI but as I play with full damage I will be glad if AI cars suffer after collisions. At the moment they are sometimes like tanks (especially openwheelers).

Cheers!
