Despite being six years old, The Crew 2 has smashed its concurrent Steam player count record thanks to a steep discount.

Amid a steep discount and Ubisoft confirming offline support in response to community backlash, The Crew 2 has set an impressive new concurrent player record on Steam.

The Crew 2 Breaks Previous Concurrent Player Record By 846%

According to Steam Charts, The Crew 2’s concurrent player counts on Steam peaked at 55,125 last Sunday, September 15, setting a new all-time peak player record. That’s a staggering 846.27% gain, beating the previous 12,707 record set in July 2021 by a huge margin. What makes this achievement more impressive is that The Crew 2 is over six years old, originally released in July 2018.

Coupled with Ubisoft announcing The Crew 2 and Motorfest will receive an offline patch after the servers for the original were shut down, the huge player spike is the result of an unprecedented 98% discount. At just £0.84 / €0.90 / $1.00, The Crew 2 is currently cheaper than a cup of coffee or a McDonald’s cheeseburger.

By comparison, The Crew Motorfest enjoyed a new concurrent peak player record of 3,705 on September 15. While the discount isn’t as steep as The Crew 2’s, Motorfest is currently 70% off, enticing new players to visit its virtual Hawaiian island. It’s also worth noting that Motorfest has also only been sold on Steam since April 2024 - it was originally exclusive to Ubisoft and Epic Games stores, so its PC player base is much smaller.

If you haven’t taken advantage yet, The Crew 2’s sale ends on 23 September, while Motorfest’s ends on 24 September.

Stealing Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s Thunder

Last week also saw Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown welcome all players to Hong Kong Island following the tumultuous early access period for Gold and Silver players. Ubisoft’s tactical sale is paying off, with The Crew 2 stealing Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s thunder during its important launch week.

Compared to The Crew 2, Solar Crown’s concurrent Steam players peaked at 5,305 on September 13, one day after the general launch, according to SteamDB. Console numbers haven’t been published, but this seems low, considering that Solar Crown is the first Test Drive Unlimited game in 13 years. It hasn’t helped that Solar Crown’s launch was tainted with server issues and a controversial online connection requirement, resulting in negative publicity.

Solar Crown has had a slow start, but a major patch containing over 300 fixes is coming soon to address issues raised by the community. Following that, a new map set in Test Drive Unlimited 2’s Ibiza Town will be added in December.

Not really much to be proud of when it is on sale for just 1 euro. That is basically giving it for free. Even then after seeing this review years ago i have no interest in it anyway. At that price it is not about "is it worth the money", but actually "is it worth the time investment".
Judging on a day 1 review a game which has been supported during 6 years by its editor and has received many updates with most of its content added afterward, that's very smart.

I like the crew 2, but the crew motorfest is better about the driving and graphics and sound, just the map is so much smaller.
The sale on the crew 2 is nice after the scam for the crew 1, well done Ubisoft, I didn't hope something good from you.

What exactly has fundamentaly changed about Crew 2 since release ? Besides new cars tracks and gamemodes, has the WAY the game is played changed at all in any way ? Forza Horizon 4 was not suddenly a completely different game once it received a new island map to it.

Whitelight will always be one of my favorite youtube channels discussing game releases.

After that crap they've pulled by killing off "The Crew" (actually removing it from our game libraries), and not just patching it to work offline, then no thanks...and F U very much! 🖕

If Sony was able to do it for GT6 after they had shut down the servers, then so can Ubisoft.

Already owned The Crew 2, but would not even consider buying "The Crew : Motorfisting" after that BS.
