It is no secret that Test Drive Unlimited's launch was rife with issues and delays. However, the developers are looking to turn their game around with the first major patch and community-focused update.
In the latest public address from the Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown development team, post-release patches and an improved compensation model are announced. The full release is available on Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown's Steam page.
One worry is their language when describing the patch and the future changes. "They may concern visual issues on Hong Kong Island or the different interfaces, but also gameplay balancing for AIs or races" This could hint at the patch not being fully put together and there not being a definitive itinerary of what will be fixed yet.
The framerate and overall performance have been relatively poor on all platforms since release, but this is said to be greatly improved with this latest patch. The game's hardware requirements, especially for PC players, will be amended on the Steam page as well as the website.
To further aid the future of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, the development team have a community-focused 'Dev Diary' YouTube series in the works to detail exactly what the game will look like before each patch and to better include the players in the direction the title goes in for future updates.
In the previous statement, the compensation was unclear as to its exact form. No solid progress was made in this statement either, however, the reassurance that in-game credit would not be the limit of the compensation will be music to the Gold-edition owner's ears.
