Ahead of its release on September 12, the team behind Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown have already revealed the roadmap for content that will be added post-launch - including a throwback location.

KT Racing has revived the renowned Test Drive Unlimited series with their upcoming title Solar Crown releasing in mere weeks. Players will drive a full-scale map of Hong Kong island in the first TDU title since 2011's Test Drive Unlimited 2, and the first Test Drive title since 20212's Ferrari Racing Legends.

For those who playedTDU2, it will not be long before there will be something nostalgic for you in the upcoming title. In a video posted on their Twitter account, developer KT Racing have gone into detail about their plan for the game after release, starting with a map expansion to add Ibiza in December.

TDU Solar Crown Roadmap

In the video, the team - including KT Racing Creative Director Alain Jarniou - lay out the plan for the first year, with seasonal updates coming every three months. After the first season ends in December, the first update drops with the Ibiza map expansion. Just like Hong Kong island, it will be a 1:1 recreation.

For the third season starting March 2025, a Clan War will begin. Going up against players of the other clan, you can get yourselves a boost in your reputation within your own clan by engaging in these activities and races. In the game, players can choose whether they want to be part of the Streets or the Sharps.

The Streets are driven by an underground and extravagant motoring culture, whereas the Sharps in contrast are more about sophistication, elegance and a contemporary approach to cars. Two very different outlooks on cars and car culture, and the seeds of tension planted in the first two seasons between Streets and Sharps will bloom as the war begins.

For the final Year 1 update releasing June 2025, the casino, which had a major role in Test Drive Unlimited 2, returns. Cars can be won in the casino, although the team do not mention if cars that can be won in the casino will be exclusively accessible there.

Beyond the first year, there are plans to add purchasable houses, apartments and even yachts. This has been a staple in past TDU titles with Solar Crown breaking the mould with players being exclusively based at the Solar Hotel at launch. Motorcycles are also on the agenda.

Pre-Order Bonuses

With the game releasing September 12, there are a bunch of different editions one can pick up for various prices. There are Silver versions of the game catered with content both for players wanting to focus solely on one clan's approach, with both editions giving players a 2006 Ford GT.

The Sharps edition gives players a Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe at Level 12 and an Audi R8 Spyder V10 RWS at Level 20, whereas the Streets edition gives players a Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR at Level 12 and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at Level 20. If you do not want to skip out on any content, the Gold Edition provides everything already listed plus a Maserati MC20 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE at Level 20.

Additionally, Gold Edition owners get to play the game from September 5. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will release for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

Ibiza, hmmm, does that mean we'll have to avoid staggering drunken Brits all over the place.

For disclosure I am a Brit, so I'm allowed to say that.

Not sure they've grasped how to put in civilian traffic yet let alone pedestrians :roflmao:
On another note i wasnt going to pre order this because their closed beta program has been quite chaotic and the build they provided was plagued with performance issues among other things. But the videos I've seen over the last few days have got me thinking do I just pre order the normal version (because for an extra £20 for the special ones you don't actually get anything extra other than a Ford GT) and suck it up if it's not very good?

Just hope that not all this extra season content isn't hidden behind pay walls where you have to pay silly money for each season. Because with only 100 cars at launch it needs some sort of incentive to stay playing and paid content isn't it.

You should mention that it's not the entire island but only the Ibiza city. There is a map of the area in the video (see below).

Yachts were mentioned as something that was available in TDU2. Devs didn't confirm any specific forms of "real estate" to come to Solar Crown.

You also missed the part where KT Racing announces full 900 degree steering wheel animation coming shortly after launch. I think it's kinda important piece of information on simracing site ;)

I did. Also saw it mentioned in the article. Interesting for sure. Very eager to see how they play out.
I'm surprised they even took on test drive to be honest. They're a relatively small team but have 3 titles in production currently with test drive, endurance racing or whatever it's called and mxgp24

I probably missed something here but... is it only online where the player drives and or races with/against other players or is there an offline solo Solar where the player can just enjoy her/himself?

Surely it's like forza horizon where it will use other players names? Not every race can be full of other players that would never work.

I hope for offline to be honest, I've never liked the idea of being somebody elses open season content!

I remember the original tdu and tdu2 were online only and they had times when you couldn't play at all because the servers back then were awful

The devs have announced the possibility to provide an offline mode but much later as they want the game to be a full multiplayer experience. So you'll be "forced" to play online the first years of the game. I do think they underestimate the gamers wish for offline mode but I may be wrong, it is their game and vision. But as much I understand it is hard to make an interesting offline PvP FPS game, I don't see why allowing players to win races, money and cars, and to drive around a map, offline is hard to understand. Sure, they would miss the online interactions but if they don't need them, why not? KT wants to push the players to play together, to create a community. Not sure pushing the players and making these interactions mandatory are a good way to create a community though, but that's my opinion.

I agree, many players that are only poor or mediocre at games simply become 'content' for the more experienced crowd... I know because my lad is one of those that's up the higher end, and I, being at the lower end (and old and forgetful) am his content for anything we play together.

It might actually be a case of those that are quietest (offline fogies) are simply not heard above the din that the online crowd seems to create... thus misleading the market.
but, as they say...
No Offline No buy! lol

Yes, and also this mandatory multiplayer has been used for years to boost initial sales because those who are late at the party never catch the early ones. KT's will to push the online mode maybe just about that, more than a gameplay point. I personnally will wait for the offline mode, with a nice low price. But I am not the ma8n target of this type of games. I understand those who have played thousands of hours on The Crew and FH games are in need of a new game and won't wait the offline mode.

According to the last preview videos and reports from beta testers, the game has improved a lot in all areas, which is really good. But one thing seems to be remaining : the black windows on the NPC cars. KT has no intention to fix this?
