Ahead of its release on 12 September, the limited Collector's Edition of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown has been revealed. Included are all kinds of physical items that perhaps the big TDU enthusiasts will be wanting to get their hands on - with quite the price tag.

Who thought the days of game publishers creating big gift boxes featuring exclusive items in the build-up to the release of a game were over? The likes of the Codemasters F1 titles, Project CARS and Gran Turismo series of games used to do just that, giving the option for the biggest enthusiasts to get their hands on some novelty gifts like for example, an item of clothing, some stickers, or even a model car.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will have a physical item box as part of its Collector's Edition, limited only to 2,000 units. It will cost consumers the equivalent of up to $250. So what do you get for that (rather steep) price? Here is everything available in the TDU Solar Crown Collector Edition box.

Collector Edition Contents

Within the Collector Edition box, players can get the following: a cap featuring the embroidered logo of the Solar hotel where all players will be based in-game, an 80x60cm map of the 1:1 scale Hong Kong Island where the players will be driving around, a 16-page concept art guide for the game and a 1:36 scale model of a Porsche 918 Spyder.

Additionally, a few items that - like the cap - are garnished in Solar Crown logos like a pair of cufflinks, a membership card, a leather keyring and even a ceramic casino chip that will reflect the ones in-game when one goes to play in the casino are included. That is the sum total you get for just under $200, but you can package the collector box with a version of the game.

If you are planning on splashing out on the Collector Edition anyway, you can combine it with a physical copy of the Gold Edition of the game which will apparently save players up to $30 compared to buying them separately. Along with an additional metal case, players can unlock the following bonus in-game cars:
  • Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe
  • Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR
  • Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
  • Audi R8 Spyder V10 RWS
  • Maserati MC20
  • Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE

The F-Type and Range Rover will appear in a player's garage after reaching progression level 12, whilst the rest will do so once they hit progression level 20. Additionally there will be other in-game bonuses for picking up the Gold Edition, including the VIP Solar Pass which provides access to premium seasonal rewards with 20 levels already unlocked.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is set to release on September 12 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It was also originally announced for Nintendo Switch, although no release date for this version is known.

Driving around HongKong will catch nobody. Hawaii was great. Ibiza was already a step down. But HongKong? Really?

It's a bit lacklustre for that price to my eye...

Porsche fans will be happy to snap up that 918 model... So it'll sell... There's a large amount of arcade/simcade fans alongside fans of car collecting games as well... So it'll sell out...

Hong Kong is awesome. I'm off back again in a couple of months. Then again I'm still not interested in this really so you're probably right.

Well, I'm not shocked to be honest, I splashed more than that on GT7 and a pissy PS4 to play it on, I already have (and use all the time) a PC, and I don't use that PS4 for anything now, so to be one of 2000 folks forking out 250 quid for a game isn't reasonable but it's not shocking... after all GT7 Anniversary edition is 90 sobs and GT7 itself is 60 or 70 quid and that's owned by millions.

I think it would catch a great deal of people if done right and if the atmosphere of the city could be caught by the game, but i dont see it in what i played so far from TDUSC. I bet that if Playground games would make a Forza Horizon game set in Hong Kong it would be miles more engaging/better. In TDUSC the city felt like a facade on an empty stage.

It's a 150 euros package at best, if you consider each item separately. 250 is absolutely insane. I don't understand how, in the head of the communication department, the idea of showing this expensive unuseful stuff seems better than showing some progress in the development after so many doubts have been raised with the demo.

I personally thought the game was engaging and promising but promising doesn't mean ready, and it was far from being a smoorh experience for many players. Add the drama around the death of The Crew at the exact same time, proceeded by a much bigger publisher, and a ton of doubts has to be adressed. And none has been adressed...

I understand these items will remain in the box to gain value in a few years, that's the only point (who would wear TDUSC cufflinks???), but these supposes a strong brand value. Currently TDU has that overated nostalgia value but, if SC is a.bad product, the difference between TDU and TDUSC brands will be absoultely clear.

The communication around this game has been handled in the worst manner since its first annoucement, so I'm not surprised by this other pointless move. Let's hope the development has been going well, which is more important than anything else, and another player in the genre is always welcome. It would be a pity not to give a chance to a smaller development team, which would just mean that only AAA games could enter the market (and we'll ve stuck with the same franchises forever).

It would have been cooler if they had a steering wheel cover or custom controller, race gloves, helmet, or something else game related. A map, a hat and a dollar store car bro...
