GT7's New Physics Have Not Had The Best Start

After the latest update to Gran Turismo 7, a lot of changes have been made to the physics and along with our own Emily Jones putting them to the test, there have been plenty of mishaps as a result of the changes.

In Gran Turismo 7 update 1.49, there has been a bunch of new cars and the return of a beloved track from previous titles. But the biggest headline from this update is the work done to the handling model. From all players involved, there has been plenty of mixed feedback with the physics.

Kylian Drumont - a GT World Series competitor who won the 2022 Manufacturer's Cup with Subaru - commented on Twitter that the handling in high downforce cars (Red Bull X2019, Super Formula) is nice to drive. But in stark contrast, Gr.3 cars experience oversteer on corner entry and understeer mid-corner.

However, that may be the least of Polyphony's concerns right now.

Plenty of clips on social media have been making the rounds depicting cars committing to unauthorised moon launches, or just acting like lowriders using hydraulics. We are yet to figure out the common denominating factor causing all this madness, but it is safe to say that Polyphony will be already looking into fixing these issues.

Until then though, our own Emily Jones - who raced in the GT World Finals back in 2022 - had a go at comparing a few cars pre and post update 1.49 to see how different they are.

Handling Differences

The extent of the changes made to the handling include a complete reworking of the dampeners and suspension geometry, the steering, stability in slow speed corners has drastically improved, tyre temperature and wear has been changed as has the way traction control and anti-lock brakes feel.

In Emily's tests both before and after the update, she tested a Toyota GR Corolla MORIZIO at Tokyo Expressway South to cover a general road car, the Toyota Supra Gr.3 at Lago Maggiore for a GT racing car and finally, the Red Bull X2019 at Trial Mountain for a high downforce "open wheel"-esque car.

During her limited time testing, Emily was able to decipher that the cars felt like they pressed into the ground a lot more than before the update. Hear her thoughts in the video above. Also stay tuned to OverTake for more about Gran Turismo 7 when they get round to amending the known issues.

The best game they ever made was GT4. I did buy GT Sport on PS4 and now it's unplayable. Servers shut down WTF? I will never give that company another dime.
There was an offline save patch for GT Sport before the servers shut down. The only issue in the end was PD not making it explicitly clear that this patch would indeed occur, leading to misinformation about Sport's potential death in the month leading up to it.

Thats weird because only yesterday OT was proud to say "New suspension physics and refined tyre calculations are the main changes. .......more natural weight shifting during cornering. ..... add up to a much more refined driving experience on both the wheel and the controller."

One day you write an article loving it, the next an article to critique it? Or is it possible you just copied and pasted a press release for the first article? Hardly journalism.

So what you're saying is, when issues arise with these new physics, it can't be pointed out because the new physics was already "praised"?

Noted.

I would guess that he is commenting on the state of this website. Since O.T took it over it's absolute trash. Half the articles are ads meant to look like a story. This is garbage and a place I won't visit any longer. I don't think I've ever used a mod from here longer than an hour or 2 anyway. Keep the BS ad site and have a nice day overtake you are hot garbage

He means the journalistic side of things. Of course you can write today and correct tomorrow, it's your website. But OT is also a company specialized in news about racing games. In the end you make your own choices: either post an article asap after press release or wait a few hours and test it first. Your choice.

Note that OT regularly posts opinion articles. Some are very personal, but they fit in the entertainment category. Game updates, however, deserve a place in the tests and facts category. These take a little more time to prepare, but will add to your reputation as a news website for simracing.

He's absolutely right. Luca you're scaring people away and you have been doing so for a year now. Patience is running out. Please stop replying to your own articles. You rarely add nice comments and most of time just start discussions with your customers. Never ever scare away the customer.

Show me a news source who doesn't update when more information becomes available.
Someone called out "OverTake" for not having a consistent opinion across the board.

We will keep this in mind for the future.
Surely no one wants our article authors confined in a editorial straightjacket.
They are sim racers like our members, and I know the site would (correctly) be slated if we enforced a single viewpoint on our posters.

Thank you

Because for some inexplicable reason, people continue to buy Gran Turismo games regardless :coffee:
you know very well there is still really no alternative to the package GT games offer so people have nothing else to buy if you want this kind of game. And please don't say Forza Motorsport, that game is worse in every area compared to GT7.

Surely the original AC sort of is that? Road cars, race cars and some made up tracks and real ones? It never matched the sheer scale of GT but with mods it surpasses it.

1) as much as i love AC from a simracing perspective, the campaign is basically a joke and you also can't earn stuff to collect cars, there is no feeling of CaRPG and the level of polish and classy presentation of GT is unmatched. Thats what people who buy GT games want.
2) not everybody wants to fiddle around with mods and varying levels of quality per content piece.

AC is a great game and the modding community made it even greater, but its just not an actual alternative to GT, it just isn't.

Yeah. I get what you're saying. When I had more time to game, etc. then GT was a bit of an addiction in the GT4-6 period. I had to unlock stuff and get rare cars. Now I just want to pick a car, pick a track and race, AC suits me fine.

True, for casual-but-serious racing games, GT and Forza really are the only good options. In terms of who does it better, they tend to trade places every few years.
