The latest Gran Turismo 7 update, 1.49, has been released to players on the PlayStation 5. From a returning and revamped circuit, to a rich list of new cars and additions. 1.49 is proving to be one of the most content-heavy updates for GT7 this year.

July's GT7 update has landed on your PlayStation 5 console. This update brings a large range and variety of content to the car-collecting, real-driving simulator.

New Driving Physics

The car physics simulation model has undergone a significant overhaul for the 1.49 update. New suspension physics and refined tyre calculations are the main changes. These adjustments result in more natural weight shifting during cornering. Tyre heating and wear will also be adjusted accordingly. These combined adjustments will add up to a much more refined driving experience on both the wheel and the controller.

Combined with these new driving physics, a new tyre manufacturer has joined the roster. The French motorsport legend, Michelin, will offer officially licenced tyres to a majority of vehicles in GT7.

New Vehicles

This update has one of the best rosters of new cars to be added to GT7 in 2024. From legendary rally cars to iconic BMW saloons. 1.49 adds something for everyone.
  • Ferrari 430 Scuderia (2007)
  • BMW M3 (1997)
  • Lambroghini Gallardo LP 560-4 (2008)
  • Genesis Vision Gran Turismo
  • Subaru Impreza Rally Car (1998)
  • RUF RGT 4.2 (2016)
The new Subaru Impreza Rally Car will be available from the 'Legend Cars' dealership only and the BMW M3 is found in the used car dealership alongside the BMW dealership.

New Circuit

The new circuit added in 1.49 is a returning track layout from Gran Turismo 6, Eiger-Norwand. The circuit is set in the picturesque setting of the Swiss Alps and the winding roads lead you through some of the most beautiful country views in Europe.

There are two variants of the circuit added in this update, the full circuit and then the reversed version. The track is twisty but suitable wide for overtaking. Expect a lot of overtaking and drafting.

Other Improvements and Adjustments

1. Physics Simulation Model
 - The behavioral models for the suspensions and the steering have been adjusted:
・The calculation of suspension geometry has been improved, resulting in more natural cornering physics and acceleration/deceleration stability levels.
・The calculation of steering geometry has been improved, resulting in more accurate simulation of steering forces.
・Damper attenuation behavior was adjusted, resulting in more natural physics on road bumps and curbs.

 - The tire physics simulation model has been enhanced by:
・Turning stability on low speed corners and curbing has been improved.
・Surface resistance (rolling resistance) has been optimized.
・Heat and wear behavior were adjusted on racing tires.
・Grip reduction on the racing line in wet conditions, and hydroplaning physics were adjusted.

 - Default settings have been improved.
・Initial suspension and aerodynamics settings have been changed on all race cars and certain road cars.

 - Performance Points (PP) for all featured cars have been updated.

 - The wireless controller steering algorithm was updated.
・The steering algorithm when using the analogue sticks and the directional pad were enhanced, resulting in better handling.

 - Controller behavior for steering wheels have been updated.
・The force feedback algorithm has been adjusted, allowing devices to use their full torque range.
・The steering geometry calculation have improved, resulting in better force feedback feeling.

  ・The Traction Control (TCS) assist intervention has been optimized;
・Corner braking control for ABS (anti-lock brakes) has been optimized.

2. Controllers
 - We addressed an issue in which force feedback vibration on the Logitech® G923 was too sensitive.
 - The strength of the vibration effect on the Logitech® PRO Racing Wheel has been adjusted.
- The performance stability for all Fanatec® steering controllers has improved.
 - The LEDs of the four sticks on the Fanatec® GT DD Extreme will now light up in the color of the corresponding MFD.
 - We also adjusted the Tuning Menu Auto Setup parameters for the Fanatec® GT DD Pro/Extreme, and Podium.

Selecting "Auto Setup" (AS or A SET) from the Tuning Menu on the wheel will load the optimal parameters for playing Gran Turismo. A firmware update may be required in order to enable the Auto Setup function on your device. In Podium mode, Auto Setup is intended for use in Low Torque mode. I'd wish they would release this on PC :(
I'd wish too, both in terms of playability and graphics. While the PS5 graphics are awesome, PC would be able to push boundaries even further. In terms of playability, my PS5 is in the living room, so no way I can play it with a wheel, let alone the fact that my wheel is XBox compatible. I used to use a 10m HDMI cable and USB extension to play Forza 7 on my "rig", but now... 2x 10m cable, the Drive hub, a controller plus another usb cable... no way, and buying another base is currently out of possiblity.

If PD fired a PC version of GT7 out I'd buy it, I'm not going to buy another playstation so I won't be buying another PS version of Gran Turismo, I bought a PS4 new for GT7 (around covid time) and like many it gathers dust.

Seems like the update went great (perhaps PDi uses the same testing methodology as CrowdStrike?):
As long as it's not happening outside of extreme setups that the player has to go out of their way to create, why not leave it in PD? After all, people loved GT3's wheelie bug and the out of bounds exploits in both 3 and 4.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
