The latest update for EA Sports WRC is set to be released on July 18th. Included in the update is the controversial EA anti-cheat that has caused issues with other EA titles in the past.

EA Sports WRC is due for its latest update, 1.9. Included in the update is a whole raft of changes to the 'Moments' mode as well as VR adjustments and career mode changes. The main headline of this update, however, is not positive. EA's anti-cheat will be included and is rumoured to break the game entirely for users on the Steamdeck. Time will tell if this is indeed the truth.

EA Sports WRC's 1.9 update is already coming under some scrutiny from players around the world. The anti-cheat is the star of these comments, but the lack of new cars, stages, locations and content as a whole has been noted. How long can the title survive without an injection of new and usable content for the player base to enjoy?

This update is lacklustre, to say the least in terms of new or exciting content. The only real addition is the anti-cheat software. The bug fixes make up a large majority of the patch notes with plenty of 'Moments' and 'Locations' errors.

The Rallypass received some livery adjustments and the 'Clubs' and 'Career' modes have also received some changes with the AI performance and UI issues. But apart from those changes, the rest of the update is simply just bug fixes and game mode adjustments. New and exciting content is a must for the next update.

Everyone is FORCED to have kernel level anti-cheat even if you only ever want to play single player. I do not care about online, i do not want that stuff in my game nor my PC when i play offline.

Developers always make strange choices...

That's something that should be an install after signing up to their online stuff... With how that was designed for DR2 I would of thought that would of been a logical step to take... As even the online mode is basically single player with friends...

Agree. The game has performance issues that are most likely caused by an unfixable design. Even so, they are being addressed and patched together as good as possible, to make the game better, which obviously should be applaused.

I'm currently living in a tent, so I will not be able to test the patch just yet, but I'm curious about the VR-updates. VR is still in beta, so I'm expecting more improvements there.

About the anti cheat, I'm also skeptical by nature to such intrusive software, even if the intentions are good. Security holes and stuff could always be an issue when allowing third party software access that deep into your system. But I have a dedicated gaming rig not being used for anything serious, so for me it's no problem. And there are probably other, bigger security issues around, which the casual gamer is not even aware of.

UE4 has been proven to be a poor fit for sim racing over the years... It's still weird to me that they've gone for what appears to be a live service title model and still gone with UE4 and not gone with the longer runway of UE5 and it's possibilities that they could help shape...

The anti cheat is a bit worrisome with EA involved, always hard to trust a company so keen for profits...

EA fixed some bugs but not all, and then force an added anti-cheat on a game with limited multiplayer activities (suspicious). The anti cheat robs your pc of performance resources in fact. Its also possible a functional game might not even launch for your platform anymore...

Classic EA... We've updated the game, but if you have x, y or z you can't play it until the next update... Similar stuff happened with the F1 series and certain wheels...

With that said I did spend equal amounts of time in SP and MP with DR2 and have only loaded it up for MP reasons for quite a while now... It's just more fun going up against people you've raced against in other titles...

Most people are allowing cookies on their browser, are using all the "modern" google tools, so their data are all over the internet. But they do not agree on using an anti cheat system they assume is taking data from their PC. Not saying it's cool, just that this battle has been lost long ago and in.a much bigger scale. At least this software does something for you, blocking cheaters.

Tell us you have no idea what root kit means without saying you have no idea what root kit means

Great... after first weeks it was already visible that lot lets call them cheaters abused the game/stats massively.
Funny things like 0:00.01s stagetime and so on...
Lot of players told EA about this bad behavior and this was clearly visible in the stage data.
Ive forgot now the name for this tool on EAs page where you can watch the whole stage of another users.
Also those massive cuts from normal users were shown to EA and instead to rework the cutting places they ignored it.
Nothing happend.

Many players stopped playing this time trial modes and now EA force this shitty anticheat?
There are meanwhile tons of players which just do not care anymore and play the singleplayer.
I also do not participiate in any "online" modes because its pointless.
So now they force us to get plagued with this useless thing?
No thanks.
I saw that coming so my game was already uninstalled after the "great VR" update.....

A conspiracy theorist once told me they make a fortune from selling data mined through anti cheat software. But this is a sim racing forum so why did I bring that up! Silly me.

Anyway, this reminds me of G-Turismo releasing one game then after the reviews completely changing it to milk the players. So GT went on my list. Along with anyone who does this nonsense.

I'm not signing up to lists, I'm not playing always online games, I'm not paying subscriptions (buying the full game in chunks), I'm not buying from people who disrespect me, not paying a penny until I know what it is. I know, a revolutionary act. They all go on my never touch list. I know it's petty but if everyone did it, we wouldn't have any one of these problems. ~They screw you because you show them you will take it.

Uninstalled. Will install again if they change their mind and remove kernel. Anyway, since I changed to triple screen I wasn't playing so not that big lose.

I love looking at steam deals and get interested, see Eula and if i see any bloatware 3rd party, drm, and if Its from EA, i move swiftly on. Steam is my DRM, thats enough at a push.

A developers view on the anti cheat if you think its justified an x amount of systems just to play a game.
Everybody not familiar with what a kernel is, or what software running at kernel level can do, please read this. Very short and informative.

It is more clever to ask if any user here has ever actually experienced one of the potential risks of kernel anticheats software. My bet is... never.

It's better not to fall in this geek drama and just avoid keeping critical data directly on the gaming pc. Devs try to protect their users against this gigantic cheating issue (and business), not to annoy them but that's a difficult task.

How would any one know if its buried that deep?, and that's the point in of itself. The fact they are creating that potential is the problem.

Would you let an electrician dig a tunnel under your house for his access and then simply say, dont worry about it, if someone does break in you wont know if they used the tunnel or came in through the door. The tunnel would still be there. You would be aware of it, Th electrician would be aware of it, and those that know this happens could be looking for it.

And what about the plumber?, another tunnel? Wait, also the roofer?, why the hell is he putting one in.....The entire house now is a bit shaky and we dont know who is coming or going.

The option to just not have things in your house because it suits the electrician to open up a security hole is madness.

I have zero problem with a kernel level anti-cheat, as long as I'm informed before I spend my money on it. What EA has done here is simply wrong. I do not buy games with anti-cheat mechanism's, as I only play single player. I uninstalled it and won't reinstall unless it's removed. My game PC is simply that, a game PC. But this is about principle and a really shady practice by EA, with no option to opt out if only using single player.
