Forza Horizon 4 To Be Delisted December 15, 2024

Despite having been succeeded already, Forza Horizon 4 is still a very popular racing game. However, the game will be delisted from digitial stores at the end of 2024. All DLC has already been pulled.

The Forza Horizon series is arguably the king of open-world racing games. Its current game, Forza Horizon 5 is perpetually near the top of our list of most played racing games on Steam, only trailing BeamNG.drive in May. And even its predecessor Forza Horizon 4 continues to be a popular choice for racing game fans, having racked up over 4,300 players on average in May.

However, developer Playground Games and publisher Microsoft Games have announced that the game will be delisted from digital stores on December 15, 2024. That means the game will be just over six years old when it will be unavailable for purchase online, physical copies excluded. Players who still want to get their hands on the game still have about half a year of time to do so, so the announcement was made well in advance.

The reasons behind the delisting appear to be "licensing and agreements with our partners", as the delisting announcement explained. FH4 will not be available on Steam and in the Microsoft Store anymore after December 15. Plus, anyone who played the game via Game Pass and has an active subscription as per June 25, 2024, "will be eligible to receive a game token if you have purchased any extra content for Forza Horizon 4 through your Xbox Message Center."

DLC Already Unavailable, Final Playlist Series Launched

What was not announced ahead of time at all, however, is the delisting of all DLC related to Forza Horizon 4. The extra content has been made unavailable as the delisting announcement was made. Instead, only the Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate versions of FH4 will be available. As the game is currently on sale on Steam, an Xbox store sale is set to follow starting July 14.

Consequently, the last Forza Horizon 4 series playlist has launched. Series 77 will be active until August 22, 2024, and players will only be able to access the playlist screen to view their playlist history after this date. Daily and weekly challenges are set to continue via the Forza Events screen, which will reward players with Backstage Passes upon completion. All previously Festival Playlist-exclusive cars will be added ot the Backstage Pass Cars list after Series 77.

Could this also hint at a new Forza Horizon title lining up on the grid? Rumors were swirling ahead of the Xbox Showcase Event on June 9, but the open-world racing franchise was not part of the event. However, with Forza Motorsport having seen a new entry to the series in late 2023 and with Forza Horizon 5 turning three years old (the same time span between the releases of FH4 and 5) in November, it would not seem unreasonable that Forza Horizon 6 being on the... well, horizon could also be part of the reasons behind the delisting of Forza Horizon 4.

That's handy as I'm thinking about getting this for the Edinburgh section.
Maybe you could let me know how much of that is in the game.
If I'm right Edinburgh is The city in the game! I'm interested too as I never got the opportunity to visit it in real life (it is said to be a city to visit). I think I'll be able to play the game before the end of the weekend I'll let you know (if my wheel is supported ; if not it will be a refund).

It's a fascinating place, although I'm a Glaswegian I spent a few years as a taxi driver in Edinburgh and got to know it really well.
So I fancy driving it in a game.

I am not able to give you a definite opinion. At first I was a bit disappointed by the city, and the game in general (about the look). But I revisited the city (and the whole map) during the autumn season, it was a whole other game!!! The UK beautiful nostalgic cliché look! ;)

At first I was a bit disappointed with technical aspects, pop in and some copy paste buildings (next to each other) in Edinburgh and flat fronts. I thought I would be blown away compared to The Crew 2, but no. But when I entered Edinburgh in Autumn and with some speed, it became a very nice and unique place to go through. You can even buy the castle! It is a nice place at the end. But do no expect a 1 to 1 reproduction.

Here is a video comparing the game to the real thing. The game obviously keeps old buildings aspects.
It is nicely done but I wouldn't give my piece of advice to someone who really drove in that city. There are some architectutal vibes. But where are the people? They are missing, there are just a few people in restricted (for the player) areas (one point for the Crew).

Personnally, I like Edinburgh place, the game map is globally too small and lacks variety but it looks nice, though showing its age. I paid 20 euros for this ultimate edition, it's a bit too much for my taste (apart from sims, I rarely spend more than 10 euros for a game) but I think I'm going to have fun with the different seasons and Edinburgh if used correctly. Should you get the game for Endinburgh? I think it will give you the vibes. Buy you know much more about it than me. The whole map is available from the start, you can use the 2 hours Steam limit and ask for a refung if you need. You should give us your thoughts about the game as you know the city ;)

Thanks for that dive into the game, yes Steam and their refund looks like the way to go.
I haven't played a Forza game since Motorsport 3 so should be interesting.

I was wrong, the demo is on the Microsoft store! As yesterday was the last sale day on steam I paid for the steam version. As soon as I can play the game, I'll give my feedback about the wheel support here.
I forgot to mention : the TS PC Racer wheel with G29 pedals and TH8 gear stick is fully supported and works fine in FH4 Steam version. The FFB is there, sometimes a bit too much (vibrations on dirt tracks, a few effects which shouldn't exist) but, for an arcade game, it is more than acceptable, it is good. It is better than The Crew 2's FFB (which was a disappointment after the Crew 1 which drove and felt better with a wheel, especially.on dirt tracks). So, no issue with a wheel there.
