BeamNG.drive 0.33 Update Delayed Indefinitely

BeamNG.drive 0.33 has been delayed until further notice. Here is why, and what the update might contain eventually.

BeamNG was released back in 2013 and has made monumental steps forward in that time. The team behind BeamNG have always prided themselves on being very open and transparent with the community, especially regarding the titles updates.

Since 0.32, the community has had nothing regarding update teasers or hints at what the next update, 0.33, could include. The CEO of the project Thomas Fischer - also a developer known as tdev on the forums - posted this thread to answer some of the community members' questions.

CEO Thomas Fischer On The Official BeamNG.drive Forums.

The BeamNG team work very hard to provide updates to their game as consistently as possible. However, sometimes there are barriers to development that push back deadlines further and further. The CEO posting on the forums to announce the delay, whilst actively inviting community interaction with any questions is rather rare. Not many other game companies would do that in the modern era.

What's To Come In 0.33?

With the update delayed, the discussion regarding what the update could contain has been reignited on Reddit, the official Disord BeamNG.drive channel, and the forum post itself. tdev very clearly states not to expect a huge amount of new content in 0.33. Instead, the work is going into the background of the game. The most popular theory is a game engine update.

BeamNG runs on the base engine of Torque3D. However, since that company stopped developing, the team at BeamNG have 'left no line of code untouched' and as such, the engine is all but a custom-made work at this point.

The 'Racing Update' still remains a popular topic on the forum threads for 0.33. The tyre model and AI racing improvements are especially mentioned multiple times. Check out our piece on what we think needs to be added in the 0.33 update here.

Career mode is also a major talking point, as per usual. The potential engine development for BeamNG.drive could unlock a new realm of possibilities for the game mode, which could lead to a promising for future for BeamNG.drive.

What do you think of the 0.33 update delay for BeamNG? What do you want to see added in the future? Let us know over on X @OverTake_gg or down in the comments below!

Answering everybody together:

1) I know that most of folks here have pretty up to date PCs. Mine is not, but when I bough the game it was a little over the minimum specs. The issue is that the game is too much demanding for specs, but it don't deliver maps even close that other games (as GT5 with a way bigger, detailed and populated map) that requires way less hardware. I know all about it's physics, but I don't see them even trying to solve the lack of optimization... just increasing required hardware specs (that is kind what most developers do). Unfortunately, I had to uninstall it because actually the game can't be played anymore and I will not waste my money on a new PC for some good time. It's a personal issue, but I don't believe to be alone in this situation.

2) Yes... there is new content here and there. I appreciate it. But the game is NINE years old and still don't have much of a game. BTW: My PC struggles just to start any of the missions, what plays as a slideshow (always did). Another stuff is to load a map. Mod maps as Spa and Nords are fast to load and light on my hardware (and are way better than any original race track in BNG, let's agree with that).

Even when I watch other folks playing it with top tier hardware I don't see much more than a lot of "crash tests" emulating kids playing with their toys. Then there are some ultra limited rally experiences (that I don't believe that someday BNG will turn into a rally game) and some racing experience that is way under a bad GTA clone side quest. Can't even get fun with it as a free roam sim because of t he small maps nor use it as a traffic sim, as IA cars are demanding even on up to date PCs. So I'm really curious to know how do you all extract fun from this game. Nine fkng years for them to deliver a fully functional game and there is only a pseudo sandbox with little to none to do... unless your imagination is considerably more powerful than mine.

Cheers!

BeamNG is a different beast, it's not like the usual Sims I have come accustomed to with a different way of doing things, it has taken me personally a year or so to find my way around and figure out what I like creating within BeamNG....and I'm loving the journey,:inlove: still a lot to do and some intial interests may never get realised:geek:.

I too, have an under powered PC for BeamNG in particular and find I have to go without 'Traffic' in most occassions which does not really bother me personally, but have minimal Traffic on for 'Career Mode' with an FPS of approx 15 - 25.

I have seen numerous coments with others saying what do you do within BeamNG, not sure what the answer is for others, but for me personally one of many things is the creation of Screenshots....or 'Storyboard Screenshots' (thank to Andy Kettler for coining this phrase:thumbsup:)

This 'Storyboard Screenshot' idea is like a You Tube video, but with screenshots telling a story with a quicker visual overview with a small amount of text explaining what is going on.

Example below:

Picking up my latest 'Barn Find', loading it up onto the works Truck and back to workshop for a full restore.

1 BeamNG Gavril DYNAMO Barn Find at UTAH copy.jpg
2 BeamNG Gavril DYNAMO Barn Find at UTAH copy.jpg
3 BeamNG Gavril DYNAMO Barn Find at UTAH copy.jpg

The engine looked in great condition, new battery and a jump from my other restored Dynamo and the Barn Find started up amazingly, put some new rims and tires on and will take her our for a test drive to assess what else needs to be done.

....errr, dang it, definitely needs the Steering looked at:confused::roflmao:

5 BeamNG Gavril DYNAMO Barn Find at UTAH copy.jpg

Time frame to come up with the idea, create scenario within BeamNG, excute screenshots and upload....approx 3 - 4 hours of entertainment (personal opinion)...and having a long time interest in Photography has also influenced my interest in creating Screenshots.

These 'Storyboard Screenshots' are to me a quick way of showing what can be done with a bit of imagination in BeamNG plus showcasing various vehicles and Maps within BeamNG so others may see what is available or spark some ideas for content of their own ;)

...and when I'm not in BeamNG, I fire up others Sims with the usual formula....variety is the spice of life:D

I like the off-road terrain. Just drop something semi-capable in the middle of nowhere and either follow something that looks like a trail, or make your own.

In my younger years I spent most weekends out in the middle of nowhere with dirt bikes, ATV's, beach buggies and 4WD's just trying to get from A to B and back to A again. So i get to relive some of that in Beamng.

Holy ****, 17 years ago.

You post history really tells something else…

Like you are one of the devs..
Not at all, I'm just a prolific screenshoter:D...if you look through most of the Sim Screenshot Threads 'AMS2' / 'rFactor2' / 'Raceroom' / Project Cars 2 & 3'...you will find a reasoaible amount of screenshots also;).

BeamNG has all the right functionality that allows me full creative control over a screenshot, more than all other Sims I have tried to date, so it's for this reason I prefer it more:inlove:
