Nordschleife, GT4 and More Confirmed for Rennsport Open Beta

After spotting what looked to be the Nordschleife in the Rennsport open beta release reveal trailer, the dev team in their latest Radio Check video have confirmed it and way more in time for the July 10 release.

The open beta for Rennsport is finally on the horizon, with it set to arrive on July 10 on the Epic Games Store for free. Competition Company in their latest update video have revealed more details, the headline of which being that the Nordschleife will be arriving with the open beta.

But there is plenty more to it, including a few new cars, another track - albeit a fictional one - and the first long-awaited idea of what will be their payment model.

New Cars

The first big addition alongside the Nordschleife is the rather fittingly named Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport, a version of the 911 that is not road legal or even conforms to the regulations of any pre-existing racing category. This trackday weapon only weighs 1,240 kilograms and is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.2-litre Flat-6 engine, it revs up to 9,400rpm and produces 620 horsepower.

That makes Rennsport the first sim platform to feature this car - which was not named for the platform, in case anyone was wondering about this.

The 911 GT3 R Rennsport's massive wing will surely make it handle like a dream through fast corners.

Next up are some cars that do conform to a pre-existing car category, GT4 to be exact. First up is the BMW M4 GT4 (G82), the same car that sim racers Jimmy Broadbent, Steve 'Super GT' Alvarez Brown and Misha Charoudin were all set to drive in this year's Nürburgring 24 hours.

Also from the GT4 class is the Audi R8 LMS GT4. Meaning now that makes two LMDh cars, two TCR cars, a selection of four GT3 cars and a few more without contemporaries like the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and Praga R1.

Founder's Pack

Next up is Rennsport's first step into developing their monetisation model, and part of it may come as bad news to those wanting to drive the Nordschleife on Rennsport without parting with any cash.

The 'Founder's Pack' will provide three tiers of paid content, starting with the Gold membership at €19.99 that provides access to the Nordschleife and one free car token for any future content release. One tier up is the Platinum Pack which will cost €39.99 and features the aforementioned 911 GT3 R Rennsport with one additional livery.

Choose from three levels of the Founder's Pack that have different quantities of content.

For the maximum Diamond tier at €69.99, players get an additional 911 GT3 R Rennsport livery and car purchase token. It goes without saying that each higher tier features the content available in the previous tier. If all of that was not already enough of an incentive, maybe this next detail could tempt a few players.

The Nordschleife will not be the only track added to Rennsport, there will be a fictional track called Founder's Track added which takes the shape of the Rennsport logo and set on an island. If you pick up a Founder's Pack, your name will be immortalised on the surface around the circuit.

Want your name on the side of this track? Pick up any tier of the Founder's Pack in Rennsport.

What Else?

Rennsport will introduce a reworked driver progression system, where drivers can earn XP from completing the race, getting the fastest lap, where they finish, the distance driven and how many remaining incident points they have not incurred.

Additionally as hinted at on the Rennsport socials, VR will arrive with the open beta with native support and they are focusing on honing that before they switch their focus over to triple screen implementation. Finally, will Rennsport be available on Steam? The answer is that it will at some point down the line. Also, AI single player racing will eventually be added in the future.

It'll be very interesting to see how far they get this title... It's come a long way since I first got a key...

I was never keen on the Unreal engine after every other title on it being a mess on the physics as soon as you start making adjustments to set ups... Probably why they've kept it as a default set up title until this point... Gotta calibrate that stuff correctly or they'll end up with ACC's lack of negative effects from too much toe or a backwards caster assignment...

Still needs a fair bit of work because of Unreal, but it does also hold a lot of potential with the elements not only proposed but implemented to date by the team at Rennsport...
The physics have nothing to do with unreal engine in any of the games you mentioned ...

Oh I know it's based on different physics and that's one of the reasons I haven't just gone "Unreal engine? Not for me" and see it as a title with potential still...

Getting the Unreal engine to comply with either Kunos or Codies physics in other titles hasn't gone smoothly to date was my point... Even though as a racer I can't handle default set ups, I understand the decision from a development standpoint as it makes calibration easier and the feedback far more focused on ideas that the dev team are concerned about...

I just can't run it normaly. If I use the lowest graphics settings the game, the game looks and runs bad; if I try to change video settings (like DirectX) it crashes instantly and in order to able to lauch the game I need to delete settings file.
I know I don't have a strong PC (and I don't want max graphics), but bad optimaliziation and this bug killed my interest.

Runs fine for me, looks like it has potential, but suspect AC Evo might kill it off if they don't increase their pace significantly.

Unreal Engine is for graphics pz666, there is no "comply" involved.

The 2 have to work together to create the whole... Hence splicing a new physics engine into something that didn't have it before takes time... Hence Kunos went from suspension darlings on AC to often joked about with what happens in the set up in ACC... It's not that Kunos became crap, it's their physics didn't react well on the new engine...

It's more that the AC suspension, tyre and driveline models were very idealised and ACC made it more complex because they wanted to include team and manufacturer data, but sometimes a more complex model has the possibility for unrealistic outcomes.

I got a beta key a while ago and had a quick look - like other posters once I realised there was no VR I haven't been back, but I did find the menus almost completely unusable and thought they'd need completely redesigning if the title ever did get VR.

As it's a beta they might have changed things since I looked but not that long ago it looked like this:

rennsport menu.jpg

I appreciate that I don't have the typical 'PC' gamer setup, as I play (non-VR) games on a HTPC and 55" TV or 120" PJ while sitting on my couch e.g. like a console gamer. But if Rennsport has any plans to release to consoles or VR then they'll need to make the menus significantly larger and more legible than they currently are.

Is the pic above supposed to be 80% picture and 20% menu? What's that about? Who designed this, and did they test it sitting 10' away trying to read the text on a TV? When you have less than 20/20 vision? I think not.

I know they're targeting the most common setups to start e.g. sitting at a desk using a PC monitor, but even so that UI design is atrocious - can you imagine trying to use that with gaze control in VR? And this is such a simple thing - just make the stupid box / text BIGGER.

I don't care how pretty the background i8mage is - it's the background - I need to be able to see the game controls please.

Driveline and driver aids were improved over AC... Although a lot can be said about the magical tyre pressure number which didn't exist in AC (and doesn't in real life), which to many makes the AC tyre model better than ACC...

But the suspension still does things backwards or not at all which makes AC better for physics...

I had a go a few months ago and the UI pretty much just worked. It was fine, but there wasn't enough there for me to do. I'll give it another go when this comes out with an open mind.

The game runs fine on my hardware & I kinda like the track selection so far (Road Atlanta, Fuji, Hockenheim) and some of the cars, but I think the FFB on my Moza R9 is absolutley terrible. It tends to oscillation and I can‘t feel the tires loosing grip until it‘s to late.
Maybe somebody here has the same problems or was able to fix them?

Its only available through the Epic Game Store? No thank you. I'll wait for a less scummy store to pick the game up.
it's 100% wrong, steam takes 30% profit on a sale, Epic store takes 12%, so with Epic the developpers have more money, STEAM is the only one big scammer, I never buy with steam but with instant gaming for example, never been scammed, and my wallet is more full of money, I have spared the cost of a rtx 4090 with instant gaming vs steam.;)

No AI? No thank you.
I refuse to support any game that neglects single player mode.

So you don't play anything but the F1 series and old titles from before 2010?

Rennsport will have AI, they've already got the bones for it... Physics and MP is just more important to their development as the AI doesn't report how the physics are feeling at all...

I absolutely don't get the hate Epic receives...

Can only put it down to another tribal situation where people pick a side and stick to it...

As consumers should love Epic... Game devs may not be happy about the free weekly games, but they'll gladly take that 18% profit margin...

Kunos and S397 can balance AI with multiplayer very well, (not to mention great physics) and in case you haven't noticed those 2 studios have sims being developed in 2024, so I'll stick with those, thank you.

If Rennsport at some point prove that AI is not an afterthought then I'll consider it
